Ebook Thursday - big 100
As it's Ebook Thursday, I have a review over on It's Not Chick Porn.

This is a pretty exciting day, as it marks the 100th post on this little blog. To commemorate this occasion, I'm going to run a contest. I want 100 comments on this blog entry. Yep, you heard right. Tell your friends. Post more than once. Post your grocery list, post whatever, I don't care. Let's talk about sex, baby, let's talk about you and me... sorry, I'm good now.

Whoever posts the 100th comment on this topic gets a $50 gift certificate from Amazon or a big box of Godiva chocolates, whichever makes you happiest. No, you can't have both. You must choose. If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice. Want it?

Let's get this party started.

What, no prize for the FIRST comment? I feel so...used!

My 100th post will be tomorrow, and I love your contest idea. Can I steal it?

Anonymous L.E. Bryce said...
No prize for the second post? Nut bunnies!

Bam oughta be sending you some reading material soon.

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
Sorry, Jacq. You have to work for it if you want it. It'll take timing to be 100.

I got it. You're on deck for next week, LE.

Bonus prize - I referenced two shitty pop songs in that post. Name them both and the artists and you get a $10 gift certificate from Amazon. You have to read the comments to win. Mwahaha. I'm so devious.

Anonymous Anonymous said...
Nooooo! I'm no good at shitty pop songs!! My brain is too fried to remember things like song lyrics!

Oh, what did Bam send?

Anonymous L.E. Bryce said...
Yeah, that was me up there. Stoopid me, can't remember my Blogger id and Blogger don't like my LJ id. What's up with that? sniff!

Oh, and My Sun and Stars is already at #11 for Phaze after just 3 1/2 days on Fictionwise, and is poised to hit the top ten.

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
LE, I have two of yours: Dead to the World and... something else. It's a short story, I'm blanking on the title right now.

Grats on Sun and Stars. As I told Bam, you have a knack for worldbuilding and the way you write your m/m relationships makes me forget about the dueling dicks and just see two people falling in love. There's a real grace and delicacy in your writing.

Anonymous L.E. Bryce said...
Aw, thanks!! ::blushes:: She must've sent From This Night, though it's the .doc version without the cover image. Dead to the World should be getting a print edition soon, and it'll be a second edition minus the few typos and irritating little lines I missed on the first edit.

For Cassidy's books, you should have asked Bam to borrow some of the Content Rating buttons I made her. There's one in there for Big Misunderstanding.

Dueling dicks. I ought to send her a button for that.

Anonymous jenny said...
Oooh, ooh. I want Godiva chocolates! How big a box?

Blogger Jacqueline Barbour said...
Hmmm, only 8 comments? We're never going to get to 100 at this rate!

And just to clarify, I'll be making MY 100th post on MY silly little bloggie tomorrow.

Sorry, NO idea which songs you referenced in that post. Probably because I refuse to acknowledge listening to any shitty pop.

In other news, I shipped my recently rejected story off to Harlequin's Spice Briefs line. (One of my CPs remarked that this sounds like a line of edible underwear, not books, but hey, it's Harlequin, I said!)

Blogger lainey bancroft said...
WOO HOO! Annie's 100!
What a RUSH...'free will's one of your "shitty pop songs"
have to think about the other.

We'll get you to that 100 post mark!

Blogger lainey bancroft said...
'K, I don't want chocalates. They are totally detrimental to what I'm trying to achieve...but is your "lets talk about" song Salt n' Pepper???

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
Good luck, Jac!

We have our first winner! Big grats to Lainey, who spied and ID'd both shitty pop songs and their artists. $10 amazon gift coming your way, lady.

Blogger Jacqueline Barbour said...
Thanks for the good luck wishes, Annie. I just wish for a helpful rejection (as I posted on Lainey's blog just now). One that actually suggested they READ my submission would be nice *g!

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
I'm a bit conflicted about what I want from rejections. On one hand, this business is so subjective, I'm not sure whether it really matters what one editor thinks. Maybe someone else with different tastes will think the story rocks.

I mean, like I told Bam in a e-mail, when my former agent was subbing Guide around, I received the following CONTRADICTORY feedback regarding the project:

One editor says I have a "real knack for natural dialogue." Another says, "I didn't warm to the dialogue." One editor says, "it wasn't sexy enough." Another says, "the best part of the book was the sex."

So what the hell?

Loose Id bought it a week and half after I subbed and said it was fab the way it was.

I mean, if the writing has technical problems or you wrote it in second person or some weird shit, I can see feedback being helpful. But beyond a certain point it's just like, oh, what the hell, I like it, let's move on.

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
It's a different story if all the editors / readers/ whoever say the same thing. Then an author is just a knucklehead to willfully refuse to make improvements.

But it's a fine line between artist and moron. I ought to know. :D

Blogger lainey bancroft said...
Huh,Jacq visited me...guess I should check my own blog :P

(No worries Jacq, we'll get you to that 100 mark tom.)

I must confess...I immediately knew the Rush lyrics. What can I say, the song Lakeside Park is in the park where I 'grew up'. My kids id'd the other...don't know salt 'n peppa

Anonymous L.E. Bryce said...
Can I have a present for being lucky number 13?

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
What email do you want your gift certificate sent to, Lainey? Hotmail or the screwy one?

LE, you're 17. Your ISP is slooooooow. *grins*

Blogger lainey bancroft said...
Now that ou're 100, you might want to consider some age retardent activities:

Blogger Jacqueline Barbour said...
Well, I'd personally settle for contradictory feedback providing I could tell from what the editor/agent wrote that they'd actually READ anything I sent them. So far, I'm still waiting for that magical moment.

But I admit, I'm dead early in the process. I've sent a sum total of one query letter to an agent and one manuscript submission to a publisher/editor that I've gotten a response on. So perhaps I'm simply hoping for more than is reasonable!

Blogger lainey bancroft said...
Ooop's! It was a 'suitable for the situation' picture. Too bad I suck at technology!

Any time you want to contact me, go with that 'hot' address. I check it regularly...plus, it actually works in real time.

Anonymous L.E. Bryce said...
I'm such a copycat whore, borrowing your idea for my own blog, except I'm giving away bling.

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
Okay, Lainey, your prize is away. Let me know if you receive the email. I couldn't attend to it until I finished my 5K for the day. My word, it was grueling this fine Thursday. Only six more days of this. I can prevail. *hums the Battle Hymn of the Republic*

It's okay, LE. I don't mind. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Note on this contest -- I won't post any new blog entries until we wrap this up. I don't want any other posts competing for comments. I can't wait to see who my big winner is.

Okay, actually commenting this time. Comments are subjective. In my crit group last month I sent in a story. I got one "It's not publishable" and one "This is exactly what the genre needs, bravo, amazing.." and a few "I liked the story, here's your typos/grammar problems. When multiple people point on the same things, that's when you need need to look into it. I've also had people point out flaws/weaknesses I thought were in the stories. That means something when someone else picks up on the same things I do.

Freewill is one of my favorite songs...one of those favorites I don't actually have and don't ever listen to...but I do love it. I grew up in St. Louis--I heard a lot of Rush!

Blogger carrie_lofty said...
I'm up at 4:37 AM (central) because my husband was up until 3am. That meant he forgot to take the girls to the toilet, which we do at a normal person bedtime of midnight. So I woke up with all the commotion of Keven trying to make a bed and change the girls at the same time. And now I can't sleep.

Blogger carrie_lofty said...
I could be mean and, while everyone's sleeping, just post another 70 comments and roll around in my Godiva prize, but that's not nice. And I do like to be nice. Mostly.

Blogger carrie_lofty said...
Plus, I'd slowly forget how to spell because of 70+ exposures to the word verification thingie.

Blogger carrie_lofty said...
I wrote 2700 words on RWS last night and SO VERY BADLY want to make out with Will.

Blogger carrie_lofty said...
Oh, and I received another full request for Serenade. *sweeeeky with joy*

Blogger Tara Marie said...
You tempted me with the gift certificate, but I'm here for the chocolate--LOL. The lent thing again, haven't had any in 15 days and the withdrawal isn't pretty. :)

Blogger crowwoman / rhian said...
oooh i like the way Carrie thinks. you're forcing a choice between books and chocolates? You sadist! The Marquis de Ann(ie).

Since i only see 2 of my homies here and that includes you, i'll see who all i can herd this way. It's amazing how quickly that reply number can climb.

And the race is on....

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
Mornin' everyone!

Michele, I will totally pick you if you get the #100 post on here.

Yay, Carrie, major grats on the full request for Serenade.

I actually like both those songs, DQ. It would be embarrassing to reveal what I have in my mp3 collection.

I wrote my 5K yesterday, and I'll do it again (and again) for the next six days. What does not kill me makes me stronger.

Hehe, I think it's a pretty good prize, Tara -- either $50 in books or that much in chocolate. (The heart palpitates) So yeah, Rhi, by all means, herd people this way. I'm celebrating 100 posts.

Blogger crowwoman / rhian said...
i think everyone is either being diligent at work or still sleeping. The blog...she's so quiet.... post is up but even lurker traffic is low on mine. Maybe I scared 'em all away yesterday?

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
Nah, it's still early.

Here's a poem for the day. Man, I love Sara Teasdale. I have her full collected works.

A Prayer
by Sara Teasdale

When I am dying, let me know
That I loved the blowing snow
Although it stung like whips;
That I loved all lovely things

And I tried to take their stings
With gay unembittered lips;
That I loved with all my strength,
To my soul's full depth and length,

Careless if my heart must break,
That I sang as children sing
Fitting tunes to everything,
Loving life for its own sake.

Blogger crowwoman / rhian said...
oh - that is beautiful!

Blogger lainey bancroft said...
Ha, your MP3??? You outta see some of the compilation CD's I've burned. My son insists anyone who would put ABBA and Neil Diamond next to AC/DC, Dr. Hook and Patsy Cline, should really be medicated!

Hmm, he could be right? :P

Almost half-way! I linked ya on my bloggie today. See if I can detour any traffic down Annie-lane!

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
Sara can make you weep. She wrote some beautiful poems.

Annie Lane? Wasn't that a Woody Allen movie? No, wait, that was Annie Hall. ;) Never mind.

Blogger carrie_lofty said...
New music: Rocco DeLuca and the Burden's new song "Colorful." They signed on with Keifer Sutherland's brand new label. Some weird mix of Dave Matthews, Beck, and other stuff. Totally addictive.

Blogger carrie_lofty said...
Here, I found the video.

Blogger Jacqueline Barbour said...
I'll send you some traffic from my blog, too (not that more people visit me than you, I'm sure!) once I get time to actually post.

Maybe I can do "a duelling 100th post/100th comment" contest. If my site gets the 100th comment before yours, I'll see your Amazon gift certificate and raise you a contest entry fee of no more than $25. If not, I just give away the contest entry fee. Of course, that might scare people away from commenting here, but I kinda doubt it. They're more likely to get their $50 or box of chocolate here than from me!

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
I'm really digging that song, Carrie. Great stuff, thanks for passing it along.

Hehe, Jac. :) I know how I can get to 100 fast. I just need to post: JR Ward's Black Dagger books suck the big one and this place will light up. :D

Anonymous L.E. Bryce said...
Oh, but Annie, make Bam show you the JR Ward button I made for her next BDB review.

Anonymous Anonymous said...
oh no you didn't, biotch

i know you didn't just say that.

those books are gold, i bet you cant even write a grocery list.

who do yo uthink you are anyway?

It was a joke, dumbass, designed to get a rise out of people like you. I don't think Annie has even read those books. Geez.

I hereby display my supreme ignorance by asking, "JR Ward? Black Dagger series?"

And await my wet noodle lashes...

Whoo Annie! 100 posts and 100 comments on the way! I shall endeavor to whoop some commenter ass so I can eat me some godiva.... yum!

Blogger Bonnie Dee said...
You're already halfway there. Way to go! But wait. You can't count your own comments.

I've decided one of my goals this year is to tend my blog more regularly. I discovered I had a "moderate comments" button on and a slew of comments I never knew about collecting dust. Yours was one of them. Thanks for stopping by. And I'll send more people your way to help you reach your goal.

Blogger crowwoman / rhian said...
what do mean Annie can't count her own? Bonnie - you're tough.....

Blogger carrie_lofty said...
Yes, Ann -- I dig the song too. My sister-in-law is a general ditz and has very little to offer about more serious topics, but she generally has fantastic taste in music.

Blogger lainey bancroft said...
WOO HOO! The glass is more than half-full.

Get ready for a toast!

Of course she can count her own comments! :P

I won't wet noodle ya, Jacq. We're in the same boat. Huh? :0

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
Bollocks. I won't post the 100th myself, but I can raise the count as well as anyone! The point is to get there, I wanna give away some book $ or some luscious chocolate.

When I was younger, I used to listen to the Divinyls "I touch myself" all the time and didn't even know what it meant.

Oh, by the way, I have a new crush: Eric Bana.

Maybe I have a fetish for actor-who've-played-superheroes. Behold: Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Green Arrow, and now... The Hulk. huh.

No, I never liked Toby Mcguire (spidey), Keanu Reeves (constantine), Tom Jane (the Punisher), and Ben Affleck (daredevil). Or... gross... Nic Cage (ghost rider).

Huh. Maybe I just never had a thing for Marvel superheroes (except the Hulk)

I never had a thing for Hugh Jackman, either. Does that make me weird?

-NERD ON!

Nut bunnies! I can't post the JR Ward content warning sticker!! Stoopid Blogger!

Blogger April Martinez said...
Bonnie requested that we help you in your quest for 100 comments, so here I am! :)

100 is an ambitious number for comments if your blog doesn't usually get near that many on a regular post. I think the most comments I ever got on a single post was 65, and it was a post about hair; I got so sick and tired of the subject that I disabled further comments on it.

But 100 comments on pretty much anything (other than hair, please!) is very doable. Might be too easy, in fact -- you should've made us jump through hoops. ;)

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
Hehe, hi April. I'm sure we'll hit 100. There's no time limit, so it'll get there. People will tell their friends, hey come win some shit!

Dionne, I should be doing ANYTHING but posting comments on Annie's blog, but *I* want that $50 gift certificate. I've still got an anthology with one of Jody Wallace/Ellie Marvel's stories in it that I really want to buy! Look out.

And Lacey, I'd LOVE to be Annie's twin. Not only is she way cool, a bitchen' writer, and very funny, but she lives in one of my favoritist cities on earth.

I developed a thing for Hugh Jackman only after I had heard him sing. Is that weirder?

Hmm, chocolate or books? On one hand, I usually prefer shopping B&N over Amazon, but I don't need chocolate in my life in the middle of Girl Scout Cookie season.

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
Hi Sarah, welcome. Thank for the link-love.

Holy cow, on my lurker tracker thingie, I had 22 people on here earlier. Sweet!

And Amazon sells Godiva, so it's a win win :)

Anonymous Estelle Chauvelin said...
What's this, as soon as nothing is going on at work, all discussion stops?

Ann(ie), was it ever defined if your comments count or not?

Blogger QB said...
It's saying there are 71 comments. So here is number 72

Anonymous Estelle Chauvelin said...
In my mind, "a god among mere mortals" and "a triple threat" (musical theater-wise) are pretty close synonyms.

And my verification thing looks like a good name for a martian. It has a q and three x's.

Blogger Ann(ie) said...
Hi Paige, Estelle and anyone I've missed. Welcome!

Yep, it's the 100th post, whoever gets lucky. I can bump the post count as well as anyone, I just can't win.

Actually, you were 74, qb. Look at the total after you post- there are several of us posting at once sometimes.

The Fountain is pretty good, although not as good as Pi or Requiem for a Dream by the same director. I'm not buying the DVD (I own the other two), but it was worth paying first-run prices.

Blogger carrie_lofty said...
I know -- The Fountain is on my must see, even though the reviews don't recommend it very highly. But I'm all for Weisz (who I used to dislike intensely, until I saw her in The Constant Gardener), Jackman, and experimental sci-fi films.
