Are you ready? I've joined the ranks of the luminaries who write for Ace, such as
LKH and
Patricia Briggs. Today we finalized a two-book deal with Anne Sowards, who will edit my books. I hear she's an amazing editor, and I'm thrilled.
Ace was the first choice for my agent and me, and we did it! Laura, to quote Dionne, "is a right rainmaker." That's the gospel truth. I signed with her at the end of March. Not even two months later, I have a deal with a major NY publisher,
and FALLING (which will likely be retitled before it goes to press) hits the stores in March. It feels like a huge coup getting a book published in NY in under a year! Sirantha Jax #2, currently just a gleam in my eye, comes out September '08.
Ace has me on the fast track, and suddenly I need to think about editorial notes and cover art. Cover art! I have deadlines. I'll be on Publisher's Marketplace soon, but you heard it here first. Go on and yell about it. Goodness knows I am.

I've been checking in all day waiting for your big news...somehow I knew the purse post wasn't it. :-)
My head is sort of swirling between cover art ideas, needing a new title for Falling, and trying to plot book 2. I wrote this book with complete spontaneity: when I started, I just began with a blank file, no idea, no characters, nothing. And I went on that way until the end of the book, no goals, no safety net, no plan.
In fact, I was 82K in, going, "Huh, I wonder how all this is going to tie up," when Jax clued me in, and said, "Dude, we're two chapters away from the end. Here's what happens!" I was like, "Cool!" I honestly had no clue where I was going (and that's a first). Usually I have a beginning and an end, and the middle fleshes itself out as I go. So you can imagine I'm wondering if I should do the same in book 2!
I'm so happy for you, I'm actually tearing up. You deserve only good things, mei-mei. GREAT WONDERFUL THINGS!!
rhi / qb -- did I not say it was big? This is cooler than mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Me too, Charlene!
When I think about the amazing authors that ACE publishes, I get all shivery. I mean, good glory, I've been reading Patricia Briggs since I first got hold of The Hob's Bargain and I loved Moon Called. My friend Linnea says Anne Sowards is great too, so I'm jazzed all the way around. Still can't believe it.
bitch, you complete me. *sniff*
Hugs, Danette
Still waiting for it all to sink in (and working while I do that!) Heh.
INCREDIBLE ANN(IE)! That's what we'll call you!
Great news and on the fast track.
Wunerful, wunerful!
The party will be going on for the rest of the week, minimum.
So on further reflection, I suppose it is sci-fi (with romance subplot), but not the dry technical kind. It's definitely character driven.
And getting the book published within the year is amazing. I understand the NY pubs can take a loooong time to get you out there sometimes.
Congrats! You deserve it.
OMG, I know, Bonnie! It's like light speed. I'll have two books out in '08, and one of them isn't even written! My deadline for the untitled book 2 is October 15. The timing was incredibly serendipitous.
It will be less than two years in its journey from my imagination to the shelves. I finished the first draft last July. Book 2 will go even faster!
I do remember that, Bev. I've gotten a few emails about the excerpt I have on the site, but not so many that I don't remember everyone who asked. Just a handful really, but it had never happened before.
I'm working on it, Anne.
auntie b
You sure can, auntie b. Laura predicted, just before she made me an offer, that I would be "a pain in the ass to sell or the next big thing." This happened so fast, it must be the second thing!

Thanks, Keira. Raising a cyber flute to toast your good wishes. :)
SJ2 is going well.
SQUEEEEEEE!
Laura rocks (she's my agent too). :)

Hehe, Anya, yes, she does indeed rock. In fact, I'd say Laura rocks OUT LOUD.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
Looks like Falling will be released as Grimspace. What do you guys think?
