Well, I'm back from vacation, and I've been catching up on email since Saturday night. I've gotten a lot done, and I'm feeling good about said diligence.
Today I have to shop for groceries, pay bills, buy school supplies and new uniforms (because the kids go back to school tomorrow), and pick the animals up at the vet where they're boarding, recuperating from their spay and/or or neuter surgeries. We're talking one female dog and two male cats. So I have a full day planned, and it's a good thing I spent the day working yesterday, as I won't get much else accomplished this fine Monday.
Yesterday I wrapped up three contests and named winners, as promised. My author loop currently has 69 members. I know, right? I swear I didn't plan it that way, but it's oddly apropos.
I'll be starting another contest shortly. It has to do with the amazing release Boundless, coming out Sept 3. With Bonnie Dee and Dionne Galace in it with me, you won't want to miss this paranormal treat, trust me. And how hot is this cover?
Later this week, I have some great posts planned, such as where you can get free books.
For now, I'll leave y'all with this. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, this will tell you everything you need to know about my week in Cozumel.
Thanks, Lisa. I really like the way some of them turned out. (Hope you're right about the other thing too. Hehe)
Gwyneth, I know!! Can you believe it? QB says I must have made a deal with the devil because my covers turn out great time after time. Grimspace and Boundless both rock my world - that's all I can say.
Thanks, Tempest. I can practically feel the heat coming off that Boundless cover.
I have a nice slideshow of all my covers over on my MySpace page.
No, Rhet, my husband is still toying with the idea of breeding again. I'm not entirely on board with it so I came up with a list of demands, which include but are not limited to a bigger house and full time live-in nanny. To my surprise, agreed to those terms and is still considering the possibility. Dang, I wish I'd asked for more stuff.
I could make a joke about the mini smoked sausages and hummus we're having for lunch, but I got nothing. Make your own jokes, y'all.
welcome home and those are stunning photos! and yeah - picture work for the poetry train - no rules 'member? Now i really wish i hadn't had to cancel my trip to Cozumel last year, dang it. i could use some of that soothing beauty right about now.
"A day or two before we left, we started receiving scary weather reports. They started boarding up all the beach side rentals in preparation for the storm. We got out before the mad evacuative rush of people trying to escape Hurricane Dean. I know people who were stuck in Cancun during the last hurricane, and they spent four days without power or running water. They lived on cookies and warm soft drinks, and I'm glad we don't have to go through that. I'm concerned about all the people who live there, however. We'll just have to see what we can do in the aftermath."
Cozumel was hit really hit hard during the last hurricane. They still haven't recovered entirely, and the difficulty is compounded by the fact that it isn't as popular as it used to be. Cancun is easier to get to, and more touristy. Cozumel was a hotspot in the 60s and 70s, so they aren't generating the revenue to rebuild. But it's far more peaceful than some of the other seaside destinations.
Rhi, I don't really know anything about photography. Those were taken with a digital camera where you just set the lighting with a spin dial and what-not. But I'm really happy with them. I think I am going to get some prints made.
Thanks, Ann. I did have a lovely time. Very restful. And I actually managed to comeback sort of tan.
Ros, we got out just in time. And we don't live close. Mexico City is in the central part of the country, up in the mountains. It's built in a valley, although we're building up the mountainsides now. I'd never seen a city that sloped like this one does. Some of the streets are crazy. And the size of DF and the surrounding suburbans just totally blows my mind. You can drive for almost two hours and still be in the city. So yeah, the closest ocean is in Acapulco, and that's three hours away. No hurricanes here. Just rainy season with real whipcrack thunderstorms. We get hail the size of golfballs sometimes and you could almost white water raft in the streets. (We live in the northern suburbs, way up the mountain).
That's great to hear Ann(ie), I wasn't sure where you were located. So sorry to hear about Cozumel. I've been there twice and absolutely love it. I wanted to honeymoon there, but we chose Puerto Vallarta instead. It's beautiful, but I think we still prefer Cozumel. I particularly liked it because it was more quiet and peaceful, and not as touristy. My dh has been to Mexico City for a soccer game, he loved it there, but of course, the altitude made it miserable for playing soccer. I don't remember the name of the stadium, for some reason I want to say Aztec, but that's probably not correct, but he said it was incredibly high in the mountains, but quite beautiful.
He's right about the altitude, but it's very beautiful here. Takes about a week to get used to it.
I agree about Cozumel. It's more peaceful and scenic; you get less of the people who have had too much tequila. It's not so much a party town as Acapulco or Cancun.
PV is lovely too. I adored our week there. We stayed in such an amazing spot with rain forest jungles on one side of us, mountains on another, and behind us, dropping down from a cliff, the ocean.
The villa we rented in Cozumel was right on the sea, really gorgeous and remote. Private. It was wonderful. I've never stayed right on the ocean before; I was raised in the Midwest. When night fell, the crabs came right up to our door and climbed the glass. I have no idea what they were trying to do, but they did it again and again, and when they got to the top, they dropped down like tiny kamikaze pilots. It was more fun than TV.
Y'all are welcome to come visit us sometime. We'll put you up and show you around while you're here. I'm definitely hoping to meet you when I'm in AL for OmegaCon. If you can't make the drive, maybe we can work something out. My husband is gonna try to take the time off and come with me as my "arm candy", so we could get dinner together, or something. Let me know!

And I know I don't need to tell you good luck on your upcoming release, it's already a given. ;)
Gwyneth
I was expecting to further read "and one husband" You can imagine my relief!
