News that must be shared
I'm still in Cozumel, and I have a bunch of email to catch up on when I get home. But this is too good to keep to myself. I couldn't wait. Official cover -- it's been approved and Deena is in the process of plastering it all over my website. Isn't it awesome? I've been gazing at it with awed admiration for the last two weeks, and the wonder still hasn't worn off. That's my book. Seriously, right? Grimspace releases on Feb 26, 2008.

And here's what people are saying about it:
"A tightly written, edge of your seat read with intense characterization - plus one pounding, hot SF plot."
--Linnea Sinclair, RITA Award Winning Author of GABRIEL'S GHOST and GAMES OF COMMAND

"An irresistible blend of action and attitude. Sirantha Jax doesn't just leap off the page -- she storms out, kicking, cursing, and mouthing off. No wonder her pilot falls in love with her; readers will too."
--Sharon Shinn, William L.Crawford Award Winning Author of ARCHANGEL and READER AND RAELYNX

"A terrific first novel full of page-turning action, delightful characters and a wry twist of humor. Romance may be in the air. Bullets, ugly beasties, and really nasty bad guys definitely are. Skip lunch - buy this book!"
--Mike Shepherd, national bestselling author of the Kris Longknife series

"Grimspace is an exciting, evocative and suspenseful science fiction romance, reminding me of Firefly and Serenity. Characters and a world you'll think about long after the book is done. Fascinating!"
--Robin D. Owens, award-winning author of HeartMate

"An unflinching tale of survival, redemption, and serious ass-kicking. Jax's brutal eloquence will twist your heart when you least expect it."
--Jeri Smith-Ready, award-winning author of EYES OF CROW

Don't you wish you could run out and buy it right now?

That is just the most fantastic cover and you're blessed to be able to launch it with so many strong author comments. Congratulations again!

Still love it! Who's the artist? I can't read the signature.

Between that cover, the author comments, and your Annie Dean stories, I have a feeling that I'll actually be adding a sci-fi book to my must-buy list. Whooda thunk it?!

I love it. I think it's absolutely amazing.

And I agree about the author blurbs too. Just... wow.

You know, I've tried to read the signature myself, April. To no avail. I'll ask who did it.

I feel like quite a doofus because I haven't done so before. In my defense, I finished writing Wanderlust, did edits for Boundless and then did edits for Grimspace. I was feeling a bit arse over elbows when I went on vacation, but I'm sorted now and eager to write.

Anyhow, I feel like the cover artist captured Jax's essence beautifully there. She's sort of grimy and disheveled, has a look that says she's just kicked someone's ass (or she's thinking about it), but she's somehow kinda hot as well. He (she?) even got the wardrobe more or less right as well. As I drooled, er, admired the cover, I was thinking I could see Claudia Black playing Jax in the movie. (yeah, right)

But still. Hawtness. And no, Carrie, I did far too much sunning to have any time left for skydiving or anything.

Aaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!!

This is so awesome. Looks fabulous.

P.S.
Hope the vacation was relaxing! =)

I would keel over if I ever had a cover that captured my character the way this one has done for you. The book sounds awesome!

The vacation was great, Erica. I even came back sort of somewhat tan (and I usually turn all colors but brown when exposed to the sun).

Julia, that was my exact reaction when I first saw it. A fist clenched my heart, I swear. The colors are just so... perfect. I stared and stared, and then peeked at it as if it might change.

I also cried. Not sobbing-tears, but a slow trickle of awe and amazement.

The cover is awesome, Ann! But the quotes are pure gold. I look forward to reading it.

And thanks for visiting my blog. Now that you've hit the big time, it's nice that you have time for those of us still striving :)

Hee, Wylie, I put the C in clueless.

I do try to make the blog rounds at least once a week, though, more often if I can. If I'm on deadline and nose to the grindstone, or close to finishing a project, I typically lock down my Internet distractions. I haven't done blog rounds because I've been nuts this summer trying to figure things out, and then I went on vacation. But folks can expect to see more of me for a little while.

At least until I get close to finishing something else.

Right now I'm working on revisions for Good Touch and a series proposal, so my agent can make the pitch.

This may seem like stupid question, but do you feel different now?

Is your work...weightier? Do people respect what you're doing more now that you have something tangible to show? It seems like every person I met, if I mention I'm writing a book...well I guess you know.

Blogger Ann Aguirre said...
My family is more understanding now anyway. Before they couldn't really understand why I spent so much time on it, I think. Only other writers would get that part.

Whoa. How'd I miss seeing this until now? Ann, it's awesome.

Now THAT is a gorgeous cover!!! Mega congrats!

Thanks, Susan. I surely agree. And I'll let you know when I have the ARC situation sorted a bit better.

Gwyneth, I've been surprised how many romance readers who don't usually try out sci-fi have said they want to take a look at this. I'm also hoping to pull the Joss Whedon fans. I hope that Robin D. Owens quote where she says it reminds her of Firefly will help in that regard. She's not the only person to make the comparison either. Other folks have said it's Whedonesque, heavy on banter along with the ass-kicking action.

Rebecca -- each time I got a new blurb in my inbox it felt like Christmas. Better than Christmas actually, because I didn't have to wrap an arse lot of parcels, stuff stockings with sweets, and then cook an enormous meal. I got all the happy-shiny feeling with none of the manual labor!

I also sat around going, "My book? Really? MY book? Holy shit." It's one thing to think something you've written is sort of kinda good. Maybe. But when your idols say so, it's a holy pilgrimage straight to the land of ZOMG-I'MNOTWORTHY.

I'm glad you like it, Cora. I suspect it will really intrigue readers, just by how it looks.
