This post is going to be a mishmash of stuff I need to mention, but which aren't worthy of a whole post. Therefore, expect this to be more disjointed than usual.
First, I am in no danger from the hurricane. I am touched and heartened by the outpouring of concern via email, but Cozumel is a good long way from Mexico City. Think Ohio to Florida. However, I feel all Sally Field about it. "You like me! You really like me!" Well, maybe some of you hope I'll get swept out to sea, but it ain't happenin' this week.
Second, I added a bunch of new links to my blogroll, people whose blogs I visit regularly, and who stop by here often as well. If you haven't been added yet, it's not because I don't love you. Just email me, and I'll make it happen. I don't have any of that mystic backlink magic other people possess. If you read my blog quietly, decide it's becoming a favorite, and add me to your sidebar and/or blogroll, I won't know unless you tell me. I don't have any inclination to track that and have five red lights go off in my inbox each time Google does something with my name.
Third,
Deena has added a couple of new pages (FAQ and Appearances) to my
Ann Aguirre site. Check it out, especially the FAQ page. If something isn't covered, ask in comments, and I'll make sure my answers are incorporated in the new batch of updates.
Fourth, I got my RWR for August this afternoon (like a month behind everyone else), but I got it. Yay! I love getting this. I think I'm gonna buy an ad for Grimspace on the front inside cover, full color. Just because. And I'll beg April to design it. Anyway, inside this issue, there's something called "Calling All Workshop Presenters", so I read it. And they're taking applications for workshops / panels in SF next year. The deadline is November 1. Part of me says, "Oh no. Not just no,
hell no." But another part of me says, "You know, it would be good experience. You should put something together."
Well, this is not a
completely asinine idea. I was President of Thespians, for goodness sake. I was on the debate team. So I'm not a novice at public speaking, although it's been years. I'm also doing panels at OmegaCon in March, so I'll have gotten my feet wet once before RWA. Whether that's good or bad, I have no idea.
So do you guys think? Should I do it? Never mind the fact that I need to have a 6 book series proposal done by Sept 15, along with requested revisions on the first book. And never mind that I have a novel contracted that needs to be finished by Dec 1. And surely let's don't mention all the marketing and publicity stuff, or the stuff my kids keep expecting me to do. Like feed them. Hehe.
No, really. I'm a master of getting shit done, so I'm positive I can put together a
panel before November 1. But should I? Part of my hesitation is that I'm not sure who to invite to participate in it alongside me. But ok, if someone else has something already cooking and you need another author, email me! I'd totally love to hitch a ride on your presentation. Er, I mean collaborate with you on whatever you like. Cos I'm easy like that. Well. Y'know.
To recap, post questions in comments that you'd like to see answered on my website. Asking anonymously is fine. And get back to me on the SF RWA panel thing. I need guidance. I am a little lamb lost in the wide...yeah, whatever. You get it.
Whew. I think that's enough for one day. If there's more, it'll keep.
PS -- a random commenter will win an e-ARC of
Boundless. You'll get it on my birthday, August 27, a full week before anyone else can read those yummy stories. How nice am I? I'm fixin' to give someone else a present on my big day. Get commenting!

May, your confidence is inspiring. :D
So I say go for it. Do a panel. It WILL be a great experience, and you'll be glad to have done it.
And yeah, I'd totally design your ad. :)
O the panel,....Just do it! :D
Which doesn't make complete sense. Lurkers should be long-term, y/n?
Anyway, the lazy and most out-spoken part of me wants to tell you don't do it!, but the part of me that knows better and is far more passive-aggressive says go for it.
Hm-hmm-hmmm.
You never know when you get another chance, though.
I wish I could tell you that I plan on doing a presentation at RWA and yeah, hop aboard but alas, I'm not. I'm too chicken to go up there and speak in front of everyone. Even though I took public speaking and all that stuff...
Right now you are our hidden gem and we don't wanna share but you deserve some international attention and I know it won't be long before the publicity gets you new readers from us trans-atlantic upstarts!
FAQ looks fine BTW and good luck with the D-collective, it cracks me up that DEEionne, Bonnie DEE and Annie DEEan are releasing under one anthology.
Robin Schone was scheduled to moderate the Erotica Panels at RT Con 2006 in Daytona. When she couldn't make it, she asked her protege, Renee Bernard, to fill in for her. Well, I can tell you that I was not the only person that enjoyed Renee's personality so much that we were eager to read her written "voice", too. And when her first book "A Lady's Pleasure" was released, I made a point to buy it. AND I enjoyed it.
I really want to do a workshop, because I love er, performing. That's what it's like. but in the end I decided I should have a full length novel out before I start doing that.
But I think you could have a blast with it. It would get you some attention too, in that a bunch of the people attending might go check out your website and books because they met you. Chances to essentially hand sell through example are few and far between. It could be worth it :)
This is off topic (although can you be, if it's potpourri), but Grimspace sounds awesome and I love the cover!
Well, I dropped my line in the water, and within five minutes I had a nibble from Eileen Wilks. She writes urban fantasy (with romance) that crosses genre much like my sci-fi (with romance) series does. We're working on a panel on "Writing Outside the Box." Now we just need a catchy title. We're entertaining the idea of bringing a third person on board, but I don't know who. How exciting is this? Squee!
Michele, that's good information to have. Your birthday is just one week after mine! Go Virgo!
Kat, you're going to love it. Sometimes in anthologies, there's only one good story. Well, all three are just yummy to bits. Not that I'm biased or anything.
May, I don't think that's in question.
erica, are you sure you don't want to do a panel with us? *teases* Writing Outside the Box...
April, I'll bear that in mind when I get ready to see about placing that RWR ad. I wonder how much a full color inside page costs.
danette, see my previous comment. I'm doing it! I have a partner. Woohoo!
l, I visited your blog, and I really like your sense of humor. :)
Karen lwirum, QB, I really hope you guys like Boundless. I wish I could give you all copies, but hello, my co-authors would skin me. :D
Kimberly B, thanks so much for the comment about Grimspace. I'm beyond thrilled with the way everything is coming together.
Congrats on getting Eileen Wilks on your panel. She's another one that the cover gods are good to. I know I bought her last book BECAUSE of the cover! LOL!
Just a suggestion: If you go with "Writing Outside the Box", another possible panelist (I have no idea if she/they are going) would be Ilona Andrews. BTW, I just found out today (over on Love Vampires) that Ilona Andrews is actually the wife half of the writing team that collectively uses the pen name Ilona Andrews to write the Magic Bites, Magic Burns, etc. Am I the only one that DIDN'T know that?
Hugs, Danette
I'm really excited, Danette. :)
Is there any type of book that you haven't written, but would like too?
It sounds like you really want to do the panel so I'd say yes. Go for it!
Hope you have a wonderful birthday!
