what a long, strange day it has been
If you've never tried to coordinate vacation plans with people who live halfway across the world and are in no real hurry to get back to you regarding what they're doing and when, while racing against the ever-increasing fares, then you have no idea what my day has been like. See, the closer we get to Christmas, the more it's going to cost to go anywhere. And we're apparently going to Cancun.

So here I go, researching this and checking that, comparing flight times, fleet of planes, safety record, service, price, and god only knows what else. I killed most of yesterday doing this, and the bulk of today as well. I'm happy to report I booked a super cheap fare on an obscure airline that has an excellent safety and service record. No, I'm not going to tell you the name of it because then you'll overload them with your travel plans, and I won't be able to get the super cheap rates when I want them!

I'm gonna be logging some serious miles between Dec 29 and January 7. You don't want to know. I don't even want to know, and I'm gonna be doing the traveling. The good news is, that between Dec 31 and Jan 6, I'll be kicking back in Cancun. That's a great way to usher in the New Year. With all the legwork I did putting this trip together, I've earned the break.

What are your holiday plans? Have you even thought about it yet?

I hate it when I'm planning like crazy to make sure everything goes smooth and no one else seems concerned with it. For the first time in a while we will be alone for Thanksgiving. That's a little depressing, but instead of making a huge holiday meal I'm letting every one pick their favorite dish and I'm make them.

For Yule, well, I'm excited because I've already made one shopping trip, and the kiddos are already getting excited. We'll have turkey (because my husband's job gives everyone a free turkey as a holiday bonus) and invite people over, but it's likely it'll be like Thanksgiving. So we'll end up opening presents then playing video games or something all day.

Congrats on getting to go to Cancun!

Oh, my Geebus. I couldn't even get into the Halloween mode, Christmas sucked up my attention.

I'm thinking maybe bumming off my sister and her in-law's for Thanksgiving, though her in-law's are kinda weird.

I don't get how they're related to each other, must less related to me.

Food is food, and distant family is...distant family.

The circle of life, yo.

Sounds like fun, Michele.

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving here; we're pretty much gone native and celebrate the holidays in Mexico. For us Independence Day falls in September, for instance. It's easier that way.

You make a good point, L. Mooch on, my friend.

I'm supposed to be in Coos Bay, Orcas Island, Seattle and Canada for the majority of December. But...I hate traveling. I did it so much this year and I'll be at it again in the new year so I'm really trying to find a way to keep myself at home.

Have fun in Cancun!

Wow, that's quite a haul. I'm a homebody myself, so I have a love / hate relationship with traveling. I want to SEE all these places but I don't want to travel to do it. Sigh.
