Seven Random Things

January 17th, 2008 by Ann Aguirre

So that vixen (and mega-talented author) Lauren tagged me…

Seven Random Facts About Me:

1. I have two stuffed penguins on my bookshelf that I use as bookends. I ran out and bought them after I sold to Ace (which is owned by Penguin). Why yes, I am a dork.

2. There’s a noche buena tree outside my office window, known as a poinsettia in the US.

3. I like cheese / vegetable sandwiches grilled with coconut oil.

4. I try very hard never to plan anything beyond the bare minimum, such as getting plane tickets. This includes plotting of books.

5. I just finished my proposal for Doubleblind and Killbox, Jax books three and four. There are few things I hate more than trying to figure out what happens in a book I haven’t written yet. Bucking the process in this way makes my brain hurt.

6. A manicure always boosts my confidence.

7. I like going places by myself.

Now I’m supposed to tag 7 people**: Bettie, Carrie, Ella/L, Gwyneth, Lainey, Lorelie, Michele

**I don’t care if you’ve done similar memes before. If I can do it again, so can you! Ping me in comments so I can check yours out, once you’ve posted it.

Posted in about me, fuckin' memes

A bare-minimum planner in daily life would merely shrivel up and die if forced to plot out books. The horror. (I don’t like plotting, either.)

  2. Lorelie

    Mission accomplished, ma’am!

  3. Gwyneth Bolton

Dang! You tagged me? Man… I thought you was my home girl! I remember when you used to rock…. Fine. I’ll try and think of seven things maybe… *grumble grumble*

  4. Ella/L

I am so very ashamed to admit this…but the first thought I had about the poinsettia tree was “Wow…don’t those kill people?”

    ._.;

  5. Gwyneth Bolton

I’ve done it. And I will get you back my pretty….

    Gwyneth

  6. Lainey Bancroft

Will get to it this afternoon.

    Um…thanks?

Hey, I have a poinsettia tree outside my window too. ‘course it’s deader than a doornail.

  7. Anya Bast

OMG…I love that you went out and bought penguins.

  8. Ann Aguirre

I dunno if noche buena is poisonous, but I don’t EAT it. I just admire the big beautiful crimson flowers through the window.

And please, y’all, save the hate. You can tag me for something someday and get even thattaway.

  9. Lauren Dane

I like going places by myself too. Probably because I rarely get to, LOL. And dude, how lame am I that I didn’t know poinsettias came as trees? I have a pint sized one on my table right now, surprisingly still alive (they always die on me)

  10. bettie`

    Better late than never, right?

  11. Lainey Bancroft

Another better late than never chiming in!

  12. Sara Dennis

The penguin thing is cute! I probably would have done it too. :)

  13. Carrie Lofty

    Mine’s up.

And I’ve never had a manicure.

  14. Marissa

So, how does that whole proposal thing work for your next books, ones you haven’t even written yet? Do you have to adhere strictly to what you’ve said? Or is it okay to deviate from said proposal? And I KNOW they have to be pretty vague when you submit them, right? I know when I was writing proposals for books in my series, Laura said, “too detailed, cut that back and make it vague as you may end up taking a different route.” Live and learn. How does all that work for you? I’m curious and I’d like a heads up just in case I ever get a chance to find out for myself. :-)

  15. Ann Aguirre

Marissa, it’s basically a “reasonably detailed” synopsis, also called outline. They want an idea where you’re going in the next book.
