Thank god: a contest that’s not about Grimspace

Trust me, you want this book.

Witch Blood
I got an ARC, and it’s fab. I just have a thing for heroes with long, silky black hair. Top Dollar from The Crow, anyone? Then add in the whole “man of strong passions, who controls them with his iron will” thing? Yummy!

I’m on my way out the door to mail prizes (if you won a book from me this week, it’s going out in today’s post), so I don’t have time to come up with a clever contest at the moment. So this one’s dead simple: if you want it, say so in comments.

To pick a winner, I’m gonna use a random number generator and match it against the comments, which means if you comment more than once, you’re entered more than once. I guess it’s just a matter of how bad you want Anya’s book! I’ll announce on Monday sometime and ship the book to you via Amazon, which means you should get it shortly after release. Feel free to talk amongst yourselves about your favorite Anya titles or what you thought of Witch Fire.

Note: No spamming, five word minimum, no random links, and your post must have content of some kind. (Saying you’d really love to read the book because Anya is awesome, and you’d like to knit her a sweater for Christmas is perfectly acceptable.)

And go!

Hey, my last post just got erased, so this should count as two entries. (Says Angie…working it)

The WITCH BLOOD cover looks amazing and if it has been stamped with the Ann Aguirre seal of Fab-Dom, you know it has to be good. Sign me up!

I plan to buy this one. I think it will be better than Witch Fire. I think the set up with revenge and all has the potential to bring more emotion and passion into it. Not that there was anything wrong with Witch Fire, but the set up of witch and doesn’t know it is one I’ve seen just a bit too much.

Lol, Ann! I love Dove Shampoo, like seriously it rocks. Especially the Advanced Care shampoo and conditioner (the blue bottle!) I don’t think I’ve ever tried Pantene, I try to stick to one brand because I’ve heard changing shampoo’s a lot can damage hair.

My nails look absolutely horrible, since for nursing school, they don’t like it when we have painted nails, and they have to be extremely short so we don’t spread bacteria, I understand that but I still don’t have to like it! I mean, sheesh it’s been MONTHS since I’ve painted my nails! And I’m so used to having them long and painted, too.

    It’s five words!

Shampoo: I’ve heard that bit but I’m the cheapest ho most frugal person ever, so I grab whatever is on sale. I’m also a lucky bitch, ’cause so far there’ve been no ill effects from it.

And I’m wondering… what’s wrong with more and more and more Grimspace contests?

    I hate you.

  25. wendy
    February 29, 2008 at 4:17 pm |

You’re mean too. We would be fabulous friends so yes!!

You know what I heard? That if you want your nails to grow, put on fake ones and that somehow makes them grow..or something. All I know is that my mom seems to think it works. But she’s prone to biting them and I guess putting on fakes hides them so she can’t bite them. Ew!

    February 29, 2008 at 4:20 pm |

Well, see, my problem is that I am a power tool kinda gal. And I garden. And play iwth (and bathe) my German Shepherd mix and my yellow Lab… so the problem is not that my nails don’t grow (they do) it’s that there’s no manicure that can resist me.

Ah well *shrug* I can always wear gloves if I ever want to fake a ladylike demeanor, no? *rolling eyes*

  27. wendy
    February 29, 2008 at 4:26 pm |

Maybe there’s some long-wear polish that you can put on top of the color polish so it lasts?

Ladylike demeanor? Like, what is that?

  28. azteclady

    February 29, 2008 at 4:29 pm |

My mother–the eternal optimist–keeps making me try all sorts of nail polish. You know the one that promises to withstand everything including a fire? *ahem* Nothing works. I’m hell on my nails.

Ladylike demeanor: that’s my mother for you. She thinks that if I wear a dress or a skirt (ugh) and I don’t know, heels or something, people will believe I’m all nice and stuff.

  29. wendy
    February 29, 2008 at 4:34 pm |

Nails don’t have to painted to be pretty – believe me. Since I can’t paint them (stupid school rule..) I try to keep them clean and nice. So you could try that and not worry about having them painted anymore.

A.. skirt? heels? NICE? Your mom’s clearly an alien.

*horrified gasp* Eh, lady.. alien.. same thing!

*laughing* Nothing else has worked so I’ll give this one a try!

Now, since Ann has given us leave to chat *looking shifty* anyone here knows anything about PDAs/smartphones?

It’s time to upgrade *looking at the poor excuse for a cellphone on my desk* before this one dies on me and I lose all the numbers and stuff in it.

  37. azteclady
    azteclady
    February 29, 2008 at 5:24 pm |

Exactly, Wendy. I’m all about the savings *ahem*

And the thing is, since I’m upgrading with the same plan and provider, I don’t pay full price. I could upgrade to a (regular? normal? basic?) cellphone pretty much for nothing, or pay $50 to $100 for a PDA/smartphone.

  38. wendy
    February 29, 2008 at 5:31 pm |

Hey, there’s nothing wrong about saving. I’m quite the, um, frugal person, too. (Blame my dad for that)

The Palm Centro looks good! You get pay what? more than $100 for it or get a normal phone practically free – I’d go with the cheap one, it’s the same thing anyway, just a phone.

    February 29, 2008 at 5:38 pm |

Wendy, I would blame my father (and he was quite the tightfisted b… one too) but it’s actually life that has completed the transformation. I’m wavering a bit ’cause I want the pretty cute gadget… but I’ll probably end getting the upgrade that costs me nothing. ‘Cause I’m cheap and stuff.

Covers: oh yes, they are both great covers.

Some people get really lucky with covers and others *shudder* And while it would be nice to remember that what matters is between the covers… well, so many books, how do you chose if you have no other reference, right?

  41. wendy
    February 29, 2008 at 5:45 pm |

I think that even though there’s nothing wrong with saving, if you have the money, why not just buy it, you know? If you have the money to buy the pretty one then go for it. Think of it as as investment.:)

Yeah, Anya has gotten quite lucky with her books’ covers. There’s some books that even though they’re fantastic have horrible covers, I really don’t like the fact that authors have little say in their books’ covers – it doesn’t make any sense!

Aw, you’re so sweet! what a nice compliment.

Yeah, you can’t get the phone’s little Hawaiian tune out of your head, can you??! (I don’t know why it’s Hawaiian, just go with me here!) You get the urge to go hunting for a grass skirt and start shaking it! And the phone’s muttering “Shake it, azteclady! Shake it!!”

I keep going back to the page to look at the pretty phone… I’m weakening…

    *loud wail from my wallet*

  53. wendy
    February 29, 2008 at 6:30 pm |

Aha! it was only a matter of time that you succumbed to my charming self, ahem.

Quel coincidence! This book is already on my amazon wishlist. I wouldn’t knit Anya a sweater, but that’s only because I wouldn’t want to subject her to the horror it would turn out to be, since I’m a really terrible knitter.

Hmmm..should I mention I was just diagnosed with emphysema and that I’m very depressed? Nah, won’t mention it.
