Please visit all these generous authors! Now admire their pretty covers.

All books in the lottery are signed. Here’s how this works. There will be “hot” times to comment, but you must comment often because you never know when you might get lucky. This contest runs until I have announced ALL the winners, at least one a day. No spamming, no random links. Your comment must contain content and pertain to the books or something a prior commenter has already said. Once I announce a winner, I will “reset” the contest, and we’ll begin again for the books left in the lottery.

Everyone understand how we play? I’ll start us off with a question, but feel free to let the conversation evolve. However, if you’re coming in later, and you can’t think of anything to say on your first comment, you can always answer this for your comment. (Do not answer it repeatedly; that will not win you anything.)

Which five (5) of these books are you most excited to read and why? Basically you make a wish-list for me, and I’ll regularly announce winners. So that’s it. There are some lovely, lovely books up for grabs, and a HUGE number of winners to be found.

By release day, April 6th, I will have given away ALL of these books. That just leaves one final giveaway: a $50 gift certificate to the bookstore of your choice. Anyone who has commented to date will be entered in that; the reset function doesn’t count for the grand prize, and each comment counts as one entry. The no spamming rule still applies, though. And go for it!

First winner: Robin K & Wicked Enchantment!
2nd winner: Michelle (of See Michelle Read) & Proof by Seduction
3rd winner: MamaKitty & Take Me
4th winner: Ayla_F & Laid Bare
5th winner: Raelena & Gentlemen Prefer Succubi
6th winner: Mariska & Wicked Game / Bad to the Bone
7th winner: DonnaS & Mind Games
8th winner: KJ & Scoundrel’s Kiss
9th winner: Erin & Crux
10th winner: Jodie West / JoJo & His Darkest Hunger
11th winner: Martha E & The Stranger’s Secrets
12th winner: Sandy G & Magic & Madness
13th winner: Chelsea B & ARC of I’ll Be Slaying You
14th winner: Christie I & Lead Me On

All winners email me their name & mailing info. You have one week to claim your prize, and then I re-draw.

(I did it again because the load time on the other post was getting long. So it’s locked now, and we’re continuing here. And this one is being locked too!)

Congratulations Mariska and my 5 are still on the board, Yay!!!! :

    1. Erica Hayes/ “Shadowglass” so can read it back to back after book 1 Shadowfae without having more than a few months in between reading the first one…

    2. Louisa Edwards / “On The Steamy Side” for one thing do not have book 1 in this series and have them both on my wish list and mainly Dig the title of the book a lot….

    3. Elizabeth Naughton/ “Marked” ARC would love to win this one because it is 50 days to release date and really want to read the story….

4.Juliana Stone/ “His Darkest Hunger” want the book because it is the first one in the new series and am in love with the characters Jaxon and Libby …

5.Denise A Agnew/ “Primordial” looked it up and even though the book came out in 2004 it is set in the rainforest in the (dark and dangerous jungle) and would love to try out an author new to me….

THX Ann for redoing the post, it was taking forever to load indeed!!!

I’m really looking forward to reading :

*Crux – b/c I adore Bree/Donna’s work…they just create brilliant paranormal plots…their characters are just incredibly easy to love and the storyline is so absorbing.

*Hunter’s Need – I’m totally addicted to Shiloh’s work…I’ve been buying & reading up all of her backlist titles..her stand alone titles are simply exquisite. The sexual tension and the heat in the books are smokin’ hot!

*Primordial – I always enjoy reading Denise’s work and I’m slowly trying to work my way through her backlist.

*I’ll Be Slaying You – I just recently started reading Cynthia’s work…I’m a devoted fan now that’s all I have to say. I read Immortal Danger & Eternal Hunter and am totally captivated by her writing.

*Doing It The Hard Way – I’ve never read TJ’s work…thanks for introducing me this new author…I just read the blurb for this storyline and am thrilled to find another great paranormal romance author to read.

Thanks for the great giveaway to celebrate your upcoming release.

Hello on this rainy (in NJ) Saturday! The five books that I’d be most excited to read are:

Magic and Madness by Amy Gregg
    Twist by Colby Hodge
Rose of Shanhasson by Joely Sue Burkhart
Mistress by Mistake by Maggie Robinson
The Stranger’s Secrets by Beth Williamson

I haven’t read anything by these authors, and I’m interested in adding more authors to my “Must Read” list.

My five choices are still in. I am not sure if the order makes a difference but just in case I am keeping the same five but shifting order:

    On the review discussion -
If I have a book that is in my review queue I try not to read other reviews. Once I have reviewed it I do like to see what others said too. If it is a book I am looking at purchasing I do check reviews.

      March 13, 2010 at 2:16 pm |

Gonna make up a new list :)

      Victoria Dahl
Lead Me On: Because the more reviews I come across the more I wanna try her

      Jess Granger
Beyond the Shadows: Because the concept sounds so cool

      Carolyn Crane
Mind Games : Because she is so nice

Moira Rogers : Someone just told me today to read it
      Crux

      Diana Pharoah Francis

      March 13, 2010 at 10:30 pm |

Ooo as for reviews… actually I try not to read them unless I have no opinion about a book and am deciding to buy or not. Although, I also try to avoid them because I hate spoilers, and some reviews have them.
      I know, I’m a weirdo :P

I like reading reviews. It would never sway me 100% on buying (or not) a book. But some books give the impression that they’re in one genre when in fact they’re in another genre. So I like to know what I’m getting in to before I buy.

Emma, Beth’s book is great! As a disabled person, I’m always trying to read books with disabled characters. The heroine in this book is exactly the kind I like to see. She’s outspoken and doesn’t let her disability define her.

Congrats to all the winners thus far! And since one of the books I wanted has been claimed here’s an updated list (also reposting it since I kinda forgot what I wanted too).
Wow, those are a great bunch of books! For me, I’d love…..
-Jess Granger/Beyond the Shadows..I read the first book in this series and enjoyed it. I’d like to see more.
-Colby Hodge/Twist..I’ve read other books by Colby and like her writing style. The dystopian feel to the storyline is also intriguing to me.
-Carolyn Crane/Mind Games..I’ve heard great reviews about this and her personality on her blog makes me think this book would be something I’d like.
-Shiloh Walker/Hunter’s Need..I enjoy paranormal stories and enjoy Shiloh’s writing style so that makes this one look like a winner to me.
-Cynthia Eden/ARC of I’ll be Slaying You..I enjoy her writing style and I read and enjoyed the first in the series so I’d like to continue the series.

    Congratulations to Raelena and Mariska.

    And my new list…

Elisabeth Naughton’s Marked – love classical mythology. Love – know way too much about it. Like, a scary amount. So, a book based on it? Must be win.

Louisa Edwards – On the Steamy Side – food! Sex! Relationships! Um, that’s pretty much self explanatory for me, but I love talking food, reading about food, etc, and especially romance.

Jess Granger – Beyond the Shadows – I heard so many good things about her first book in the series (pretty sure I’ve got the right one) – would love to try it out!

Victoria Dahl – Lead Me On – I’ve got the others in the series and somehow don’t have this one yet, so my collection must be complete!

Juliana Stone – His Darkest Hunger – she’s a new to me author, and I’d like to try her books. It’s important to expand horizons right? ;)

Yeah I did. I’ve always been a HUGE alice in wonderland fan, so it was nice seeing it on the big screen, especially with Johnny Depp, my favorite actor. I felt it could’ve been better, though. Some things didn’t seem to go with the flow of the movie, like the dance Johnny and Alice did…what was up with that?? lol

Green Zone was not exactly what I was expecting simply because did not watch any trailers other than 1 that came on Television last week.
I love Matt Damon in action adventure and that is what the movie was being represented as and instead it is about the war with Iraq and certain parts of it were very well done and thought provoking but it just was not my exact cup of tea… Then ending of course left more questions than it answered for me.

Hey Joder, we live off a major Highway but back in a heavily wooded area behind a very deer and other wildlife infested State Park and have seen Skunks, Possums, Racoons and all kinds of snakes and birds and squirrels since moving to our home in 2001! The deer are coming out because of being fed and we also have natural springs running through the woods so plenty of water to drink and lots of fresh new grass coming up to eat as well. The major city from us is Austin TX about 50 miles east and they have suburban neighborhoods with deer running everywhere!!!

@Katie: I just recently bought the Cal and Niko series but haven’t started it…How do you like it? I heard mixed reviews for it but decided to go ahead and buy the series haha. I heard it was kinda like Supernatural the show?

@Anna: Whoa! that’s a lot of books!! you must have a lot of books in your TBR pile huh?

@Jackie B: Is Anton Strout’s series any good? I was thinking about starting that series.

Haven’t started on any yet though. I’m still trying to finish the book i just started ‘Wages of Sins’ by Jeanna Maclaine.

@ vanp – It’s the second book in a series I’m in love with. I just finished Sugar Daddy, the first book, and it was epic in every way. It followed the heroine from the age of 14 when she fell in love with a neighbor, through the hardships of youth (including him abandoning her), into the present day. The second book, Blue-Eyed Devil, follows the man who abandoned her. ::happy sigh:: It’s single mom crack, seriously. In the first and third books, the women have kids who aren’t really theirs, and the men always step up and help out.

Van to answer you a little late, yes Anton Strout is a good solid writer and the Simon Canderous series so far in books 1&2 were good reads. I have to take time to read book 3 soon so the others are still fresh in my mind….

I was about six/seven years old and I was reading Hans Christian Andersen & Grimms Brothers stories. I was also really into Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew…I also snuck into my Mum’s stash of Barbara Cartland novels…that’s what got me hooked on to reading romances.

oh my gosh- haha I found Barbara Cartland books in the “library” of one of my teachers in high school. Hilarious, and I was hooked on them. They were my “break books” between classics when those drained me.

    Congratulations to Donna S!

I think this list is still ok…

It’s important to expand horizons right? ;)

I’m really interested to see how Marked compares to the Dark-Hunters. I expect there to be some major differences but they both have hot warriors whose origins are in Greek mythology.

I’ve read Lead Me On, but none of the others in the series, so I can’t say how it compares, but I really enjoyed it. Jane makes some mistakes through her journey but she isn’t annoying, even if I don’t always agree with her.

    - Moira Rogers CRUX

    - Moira Rogers SANCTUARY

    - HelenKay Dimon LEAVE ME BREATHLESS

Upthread, there was discussion about recently read and recently bought books so I thought I’d chime in.

Last weekend I read Lisa Kleypas’s SMOOTH TALKING STRANGER, which led to me almost immediately ordering SUGAR DADDY and BLUE-EYED DEVIL. How have I been missing out on Kleypas for so long?

I also read NAKED EDGE by Pamela Clare and was totally blown away, so I ordered EXTREME EXPOSURE. Must. Have. More. Awesome.

Then this weekend I read DOUBLEBLIND by…what’shernameagain? Ann someone… Awesome, gut wrenching book. I tried to pre-order KILLBOX at the Book Depository but it’s not up yet.

As soon as I work through a few more books in my TBR pile I’m going to order Stieg Larsson’s Millenium trilogy. (But not today since I didn’t get my weekend reading done. The idea is to make the TBR pile grow smaller, not keep building it up until it falls over and crushes me beneath it!)

She has a 5th book planned for the series, but her publisher doesn’t want it.

I find that totally bizarre! The series started in 2005, is trade paperback so more expensive, and all the books are still in print. But they don’t want book 5. Totally bizarre!

That’s another excuse I’m using to buy the rest of the series.

I have only listened to one Audio Book so far and that only because won a copy of “The Last Song” by Nicholas Sparks. It was okay, I need to get the book and read the story though because the male and female readers were kind of annoying… Liked the book itself just need to actually “read” it for myself now…

I found it was nice to multitask by playing the book and playing on my computer at the same time, and also relaxing to lay in bed and listen….

I have a long commute, and audiobooks can be a lifesaver. My brain is kind of weird though; with most audiobooks, I have trouble listening if I haven’t already read the book. There are only a handful of author/reader combinations that I can listen to cold.

I have never really gotten into Audio books simply because I don’t get into things being read to me. I enjoy reading it a lot more.

On my commute I love listening to my CDs. Makes the drive go much faster that way.

I wouldn’t like listening to audio books. I’ve never ordered one. I can see if I’m driving, I might want to listen to a person reading a book, but I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on driving then! I guess I’d want to read the book myself.

I used to listen to CDs during my commute. I changed jobs and only have a 7 mile commmute instead of an hour plus so now I mostly listen to the radio.

Larena I am with you, I would much rather read in my head with my own “voice” than having someone else read to me out loud. When I was a child it caused me no end of impatience until learned how to read on my own, my parents loved to read to me but I was not such a good listener!!!
Being read to is somewhat distracting from the story as too busy critiquing the reader’s voice….

A reader who “disappears” into the story is definitely a requirement. I need something else too, though. It’s some mysterious quality of the story itself that I can’t define; I just know when it works so it’s very hit and miss.

Yes, I too am not a fan of audiobooks. It’s hard to concentrate on what’s going on in the story when it’s being read to you. Plus, I’m a fast reader and the audiobooks feel like they’re so slow.

I agree, Jackie, I want to read in my own head with my own voice, at my speed. I remember way back once having to type from a dictating machine in an office, same type of thing, I’d find myself way ahead and waiting for the dictator voice to catch up to me, lol.

I’ve just finished Spiders Bite and thought was brillant. :)

Here’s a question that I think I’ve seen elsewhere but can’t remember where lol.

How do you find new authors or books? Blog reviews?, Review sites? Talking to others?
I use BBB a lot but also now have a heap of RSS feeds for authors and review blogs/sites. Love how the internet has meant that authors are so much more accessible and just makes the reading experience that much more personal. (at least for me)

    1. Jackie U
      March 15, 2010 at 3:21 pm |

Isn’t Jennifer Estep amazing? Gin is a wonderful heroine. She’s flawed but sticks to her morals, tough but willing to embrace her emotions, and Donovan…mmm….

I use and abuse SciFi Guy and a woman on the Paranormal Romance Lovers Yahoo! Group. They send out updates every month with new releases.

I loved Spider’s Bite too. Can’t wait for the next book.
On the net I mostly find new books on BBB and Goodreads. But I also enjoy going to the bookstore or library and browsing.

Jackie U, I love that phrase you use and abuse Sci Fi Guy. Doug has wonderful new release info he puts out and since his picks are normally what I read it has added to my TBR pile tremendously!!! The blog sites who do these up to the minute new release posts are awesome….
Of course over at BBB there is lots of good info that has helped me find new reads and authors too, just have not hung out there lately as much…

I bought Spider’s Bite last week and can’t wait to read it.

I don’t have any IRL friends that like to read. Well those that do don’t read the same type of books as me. I rely on blogs, Goodreads, Library Thing, & Shelfari. Amazon usually recommends books based on what I’ve ordered some are a hit and some a miss. I also scour shelves and look for covers that pop out at me.

    1. Danny
      Danny
      March 16, 2010 at 3:34 am |

Most of the times the blurb is what influences me most if I buy a book or not, other times its a recommendation from friends.

An auto-buy is for me, a book by my favorite author or part of a series that I really like. But also certain themes can be auto buys for me. I really love books with firefighter heroes.

    2. Christie I
      March 16, 2010 at 9:24 am |

My auto buys are series that I’m hooked on. Charlaine Harris, Richelle Mead, Patricia Briggs, Karen Marie Moning, and Jeaniene Frost are a few that I must by (usually pre-order).

    March 15, 2010 at 8:59 pm |

Anna, In response to how does a person decide on buying a book, many things factor in. The book cover naturally comes in first to catch my eye and interest, the back cover blurb has to be good enough to intrigue me and tell me to read the story, the main thing is for me the book genre. I read mostly Dark Paranormal Romance and UF and on occasion stray into Historical and Erotic Romance and good old fashioned Mystery Thrillers. My favorite books are written by authors who specialize in shape shifters, magic, Fae, and of course riveting characters both male and female.
Some of my auto buys at this point are J. D. Robb and or Nora Roberts, Diana Gabaldon, Rob Thurman, Faith Hunter, Kim Harrison, Jennifer Armintrout, Shana Abe and quite a few others. I am also going to auto buy books from new authors to me Kelly Gay, Kelly Meding, Jennifer Estep and Moira Rogers..

    1. Anna Shah Hoque
      March 17, 2010 at 5:16 pm |

I’m a total blurb nut…if a storyline catches my interest then I’ll get the book. Some of my auto-buys (well I’ve got gazillions but I’ll try and list a couple) Kay Hooper, Laura Griffin, Lisa Jackson, Annmarie McKenna, Kaitlyn O’Connor, Jayne Castle, Lora Leigh, Stormy Glenn, Cameron Dane, Shawn Lane, T.A. Chase…

I’ve recently added Cynthia Eden, Shiloh Walker, & Beth Kery to my auto-buy list.

  136. Allison
    Allison
    March 15, 2010 at 10:36 pm |

    @Anna

It’s a series or a favourite author that makes an autobuy for me. Some of them are JR Ward, Janet Evanovich, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Eloisa James.

But if it’s a new author, the cover helps but a lot comes down to the blurb if I’m in the store or the excerpt if I find out about the book on the internet.

But lately, I usually find new authors based on the recommendations of blogs (Ann’s a huge source… really… I usually go straight to amazon after reading here). I also do the Amazon’s recommended picks… but that’s only about 40%… but due to having to self impose a book allowance, I’ve had to make lists of authors/books and I can’t stray!

But I have a few exceptions of must haves that I can break the allowance for…

I just finished Kim Harrison’s Black magic Sanction (very good!) after restarting the entire series (I’m weird like that… anyone else do that? Reread the series before a new release?) and as a “palatte cleanser” I’m reading Watchers by Dean Koontz… Don’t know why, but I love Dean Koontz and always manage to read a book by him every other time… After that… I’m off to restart Patricia Briggs series before Silver Borne comes out…

    ok… I think this is the most I’ve ever posted! usually I’m a lurker… sorry… skulking off now… ;)

    Crux
    Sanctuary
    Shadowglass
    Bitter Night
    Twist

As a graphic designer, book covers are the very first thing to drag me in… then the blurb has to clinch me, otherwise my penny-pinching gene will kick and and make me put down the pretty book. ;)

      Cool job :D
I do love covers, they are the first thing I look at and yes bad covers might not make me take up the book. But the blurb makes the deal

I like Karen Marie Moning’s books. I have Jeaniene Frost’s first book but I haven’t read it yet. And I have seen Patricia Brigg’s books and would like to read at least the first one but my TBB list is waaaaaay too long so I have been putting it off.

I’m going to re-post about a site I mentioned in Part 1 of the contest comments…The site is called Savvy Readers http://www.savvyreaders.com/
it’s a great search tool for new authors/titles in a specific plot or category that you may be interested in.

I’ve been using it for the last couple of months and have found it to be very helpful. I’m also a major blog stalker I follow a lot of various blogs (authors/reviewers/readers) not to mention browse various publisher websites…basically get info from the horse’s mouth shall we say?

Hey Anna looked up the Savvy Readers site and it is on my book marks now. The most helpful tool right now for me is also book bloggers and review sites, my RSS feed on my email lets me in on so many new books daily that I have to pick and choose!!

lol…my cat is neutered too but he’s definitely got all his claws and his fave piece of furniture is my only piece of decent furniture – a tapestry covered trunk from the Bombay Co. – did I mention that he rarely scratches the three posts that I’ve got for him scattered around the apartment.

My Tom and Tabby both are fixed and declawed on front paws, cruel I know but they healed fine since done as kittens and as far as scratching posts !!! That is why no front claws for my house puddies!!! Blade got his name though from Daywalker Vamp character played in movies by Wesley Snipes. I love the movies and just could not resist naming my cat after that!!
Your cat was very cute with his paws around the book in his “reading post”!

If there are people interested in scoring some great free ebooks…head on over to Resplendence Publishing’s blog – http://resplendencepublishing.blogspot.com/

Fran is always updating the site and posting blurbs from new releases – all you have to do is leave a comment and once the comments are closed after a 2 week period – winners are announced. You can win up to two ebooks a month. It’s a really great way to be introduced to some new as well as familiar authors’ works from a different publisher.

I never know if I should pre-order or not. Sometimes it comes early but last time I got a book a couple days AFTER the release. (Both times through Amazon). If I am going to use my book “allowance” you better believe I want it by the release date.

I try not to pre-order so as to not mess up the authors sales listings and such. Sometimes though!!!!!

Unfortunately the Borders near me almost never gets anything out on the shelf by the release date. And I’ve had the same experience you did with Amazon shipping pre-orders after the release date. my best shot at getting something on the release date is a pre-order from Borders.

That’s good to know Sandy- thanks!

Jackie- I had no idea that pre-ordering messed up author’s sales listings. I don’t even really know what a sales listing is! How does it help/hurt the author?

Pre-orders mess up sales? I had no idea. I live in the middle of nowhere and the closest bookstore is 45 minutes away. I drove there last Tuesday and they did’t even have the new releases out Is it better to wait until release day and order?
