Please visit all these generous authors! Now admire their pretty covers.
All books in the lottery are signed. Here’s how this works. There will be “hot” times to comment, but you must comment often because you never know when you might get lucky. This contest runs until I have announced ALL the winners, at least one a day. No spamming, no random links. Your comment must contain content and pertain to the books or something a prior commenter has already said. Once I announce a winner, I will “reset” the contest, and we’ll begin again for the books left in the lottery.
Everyone understand how we play? I’ll start us off with a question, but feel free to let the conversation evolve. However, if you’re coming in later, and you can’t think of anything to say on your first comment, you can always answer this for your comment. (Do not answer it repeatedly; that will not win you anything.)
Which five (5) of these books are you most excited to read and why? Basically you make a wish-list for me, and I’ll regularly announce winners. So that’s it. There are some lovely, lovely books up for grabs, and a HUGE number of winners to be found.
By release day, April 6th, I will have given away ALL of these books. That just leaves one final giveaway: a $50 gift certificate to the bookstore of your choice. Anyone who has commented to date will be entered in that; the reset function doesn’t count for the grand prize, and each comment counts as one entry. The no spamming rule still applies, though. And go for it!

Right now, I am reading 2 things. One regular book and one e-book.
The regular book is The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting. It is YA book and really good.
The e-book, from my emergency I need to look like I am working when I am not collection, is Defiance. It is a collection of 3 short stories with a supernatural spin set during the Civil War. The authors are Laura Anne Gilman, Joely Sue Burkhart, Angela Korra’ti. I’ve read the first story by Gilman. It was good, but I knew that would be the case since I really enjoyed her Retriever series. Now, I am starting the other 2 which should be interesting since I have never read either author.
March 23rd, 2010 at 8:23 am
@Danny: I’m up to the second story in Laced with Desire – just a few pages so I’ve no feeling for it yet…
March 23rd, 2010 at 9:01 am
Congratulations Heather!!!
March 23rd, 2010 at 9:04 am

March 23rd, 2010 at 9:32 am
@ Ina

March 23rd, 2010 at 9:41 am
Hunter’s Need
Sanctuary
Shadowglass
Bitter Night
Twist
@Danny… I like anthologies if only to entice me to new characters and authors.
March 23rd, 2010 at 9:41 am
Congrats Heather!!
March 23rd, 2010 at 9:42 am
Sometimes the library will purchase a request. But if they don’t have it within the county library system my library allows you to request an inter-library loan and they will try to get it from another library in the state.
March 23rd, 2010 at 9:42 am
@Danny: yeah me too, but I won this one and thought I would give it a try… normally the stories are too short for me and there are not enough pages to get a real feeling for the protas…
March 23rd, 2010 at 9:45 am
@ Miranda,
yeah anthologies are a great way to discover new authors.
March 23rd, 2010 at 9:45 am
I just started Time Travellers Never Die by jack McDevitt
March 23rd, 2010 at 9:46 am
@ Ina,
it’s true that the stories are very often too short. But I think it’s a good way to try a new author
March 23rd, 2010 at 9:48 am
Congrats Everyone! Hope that everyone’s day is starting out well…
Just about to start a book that was sitting in my TBR pile for a while… new author… Skin Game by Ava Gray…
I’m not so much a fan of anthologies… I will still buy them b/c there’s an author I really like, but I don’t end up enjoying the other stories as much… haven’t found one yet that I enjoyed all…
well… going back to work… bleh!

I don’t normally do it, but I am at a customer site and can’t just whip out my regular book to read. That is why there is an emergency stash on my computer. :-D
Do you normally read one of each?
March 23rd, 2010 at 10:24 am
I love my local library. They have an awesome selection, a great website, and super convenient locations. I usually only buy an authors books once I’ve read them and got a feel for their writing, so I check them out through the library, and when I fall in love, buy all their books like a mad woman!
March 23rd, 2010 at 10:26 am
I like anthologies, as long as I like the author. I’ve actually found some authors that I like by reading anthologies. But I think that some authors do a MUCH better job of writing short stories than others do. I can only imagine how hard it is to switch gears from writing a 90,000 word book, to a short anthology story…
March 23rd, 2010 at 10:40 am
congrats Heather H.
March 23rd, 2010 at 10:43 am

Who are your favorites, Donna?
jackie b central texas
March 23rd, 2010 at 2:37 pm
I was thinking about this the other day. Do your reading taste’s reflect in part at least what your parents read?
My parents introduced me to reading at a very early age (which actually helped my dyslexia). Mum in particular has always read Fantasy to some degree. My uncle read a lot of Sci Fi and I would borrow his books every chance I could.
Mum introduced me to Anne McCaffery and Andre Norton and my tastes kinda grew from there. As I got older I have added murder mysterys and similar but still retained that core interest in fantasy.
March 23rd, 2010 at 2:51 pm
The closest my reading comes to is my dad’s audio books which are westerns. I enjoy reading western romances but out of all I read that is the only thing that comes kind of close.
Pretty much what I read I discovered on my own by trying different books and authors to find what I really liked.
March 23rd, 2010 at 2:52 pm
@Emmad, my Father and I shared for years a love of Western books. Louis Lamour stories in particular. Growing up my teachers introduced me to Sci-Fi Fantasy, Mysteries, Thrillers and even Romance. Today I read these and also UF, PNR, and Historical or Time Travel Romance books…
jackie b central texas
March 23rd, 2010 at 3:02 pm
Ohh I read Louis Lamour too. Haven’t for years but used to love reading those.
March 23rd, 2010 at 3:03 pm
Just noticed. For some reason I’ve just noticed the times on the postings. Says 3.02pm for my last comment. It’s 9.02am here so it just struck me as amusing hehe.
March 23rd, 2010 at 3:32 pm
@ Emmad,
do you live in Down under?
Reading taste and family: I come from a family of bookworms. My mom, grandpa are absolute bookworms, so I guess it’s a hereditary thing. Yeah I finally have an excuse for my addiction. LOL
March 23rd, 2010 at 3:33 pm
The only thing I read in common with my parents is mysteries. My Mom likes those. My younger brother and I are the only ones who read horror, sci-fi and fantasy.
March 23rd, 2010 at 3:35 pm
Yep – New Zealand.
Was reading Jennifer Esteps blog this morning about the prices for books at walmart. We don’t have a walmart and our prices are more expensive even with the exchange rate. Imagine is due to shipping costs sigh.
March 23rd, 2010 at 3:37 pm
@ Emmad,
same problem here. I live in Germany and I have huge problems with Amazon Germany. So I stopped buying there and buy the book during my US trips.
March 23rd, 2010 at 3:38 pm
My mom reads romances, too. My grandpa loved historical fiction, but no one likes fantasy, so it’s just me.

No WalMart, you guys do pay too much for books in New Zealand!! Here in the states if we did not have the big box store and used bookstores and such book buyers would go broke!
We might anyway, since love to shop for them all over the internet as well!

March 23rd, 2010 at 3:48 pm
Sandy at least your Mom reads books, wish mine did. Since my father passed away it is just me reading. My Mom and my DH like magazines, newspapers and the TV, not books…

March 23rd, 2010 at 3:58 pm
Favorite fantasy authors are Jennifer Roberson & Maggie Furey.
Favorite series: Dragonlance Saga
I just love Dragons
March 23rd, 2010 at 3:59 pm

Danny oh yes our Dragons, what is not to love in great big flying lizard who roasts us with fire! On the other hand I do love Dragon Shifters in the books written by Deborah Cooke, Yasmine Galenorn, Katie MacAlister and others of the type. They do not qualify as fantasy authors but do write fantastical tales with dragon shifters in them….

March 23rd, 2010 at 4:43 pm
I tend to buy via online stores http://www.fishpond.co.nz or http://www.mightyape.co.nz for new books or http://www.trademe.co.nz for secondhand.
Sometimes if feeling down will sneak into a bookstore and treat myself to a book straight away. Really good when feeling blue but not good on the pocket. In a store I would pay US$18 for a book normally. Via the online stores don’t like to pay more than US$14 but can sometimes get them for US$12
March 23rd, 2010 at 4:43 pm
@ Jackie,
do you mean A Romance haven? I bought tons of books there in the past, but haven’t since there is no longer surface mail.
March 23rd, 2010 at 4:47 pm
Hmm might have to go back to the library and reread some. Wonder if my uncles collection is still at my pops place
I’m a horsey person myself so always used to like the westerns.
March 23rd, 2010 at 4:50 pm
Danny no it is a place called BookTraders.com and I just got a box of 16 books in almost perfect shape for the least amount they allow with no s&h and no tax for me, all of them under $3 or less and totalled out to $25.15 and I am thrilled…

I just finished putting down 20 more books on my TBR list and put the books in my poor shelves, need to get off my computer and start reading more!!!
March 23rd, 2010 at 4:55 pm
goody another place to check out for books.
March 23rd, 2010 at 4:56 pm
Emmad, they never get old to re-read. I will not part with my favorites and yet for some reason have had no problem with other books leaving even a few by Nora Roberts have sent away and not worried one bit!!! Louis Lamour though being from my earliest reading memories will always be special to me…
jackie b central texas
March 23rd, 2010 at 5:10 pm
LOL. I know the problem with tbr piles only too well. It’s hard to choose when you have such a huge variety to choose from.
March 23rd, 2010 at 5:18 pm
Especially after I got high speed internet access, it really messed up my reading a book every 4 hours or so. Now spend too much time on my blog working on posts are on other blogs reading theirs…

My problem got worse when I started with ebooks. I borrowed my Dad’s pda because he never used it and a year ago I bought a Sony reader. Now the range to choose from is even larger. But I at least I have no problems to get the ebooks.
March 23rd, 2010 at 5:25 pm

I have of course read all the short novellas and even printed them out and put them in a three ring binder notebook to re-read. The long books 300 pages and more will not try and print but have read some and need to read the rest…
Again, too many and not enough time to just sit down that long and only read…
jackie b central texas
March 23rd, 2010 at 6:38 pm
I know that not enough time problem. I have so many books to read and just keep adding more to the pile…I never seem to be able to catch up.
March 23rd, 2010 at 6:45 pm
Katie, my problems started with all the wonderful sales last year at Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years and have not stopped because keep finding more books cheap and yet not reading them. I will, just have to sit down and do so. In the meantime though my wish list is still huge because am interested to read so much that is out there…
This is the one thing in the world that can truly say has become a hoarder or obsession problem for me, and I love my books!!!!

Good morning everyone,
I am off to an early doc appointment. I might have to have a surgery and I am not happy about it.
March 24th, 2010 at 1:22 am
Congrats to Heather! See I need to revise my list a bit:
1. Marked arc by Naughton (really want to try her new series since I loved the Stolen series
2. Vampire’s Quest by Vivi
3. Rose of Shanhasson – Burkhart
4. Sanctuary – Moira Rogers
5. Shadowglass – Hayes (new author I’d like to try.
I just went and read some reviews about the Burkhart book and put it my personal want list now. Always like stories with magic and have getting more and more into epic fantasy themes. One comment said it had a medieval feel, too, which I love, so that’s another appeal for me. One of the things I loved about Elizabeth Vaughan’s trilogy (Warprize, etc.), it had a medieval overtone.

Jackie, did you know Allyson James is also Jennifer Ashley (Madness of Ian Mackenzie, a big reader favorite last year). She also has some older historical mysteries as Ashley Gardner, which I’m getting into now.
March 24th, 2010 at 1:37 am
Most of my family are readers, but only mysteries and thrillers, too (which I also like); local friends, too, except one who will read scottish historicals. So it’s great having online friends who love to read and talk about all these other genres (historical, paranormal/UF and fantasy, sci-fi and futuristics) I love.

Congrats to Chelsea, Christie and Heather!

Megan Hart – No Greater Pleasure
HelenKay Dimon – Leave Me Breathless
Jess Granger – Beyond the Shadows
Tessa Dare – Goddess of the Hunt
Diana Pharoah Francis – Bitter Night

oh, I know the problem too… the internet is already my addiction… I love reading too, but I spend more time during the week around on the internet than reading
but my TBR is growing every week because I can’t withstand buying news book I found on different blogs *gg*

but I love my Book Depository account *gg*my wishlist there is almost as long as my amazon wishlist

but I’m in the same timezone with Danny…
March 24th, 2010 at 4:58 am
for me it’s the other way around… I can’t get a real feeling for the author in a short story, I need more pages to discover the writing style, the world she (or he) created, the characters and the tension between them and so on…
I read short storys only when I know the author eg. Christine Feehan has some anthologies in her Carpathian Series and I read them because I won’t miss a part
March 24th, 2010 at 5:00 am
@Jackie: oh that are some of my fav authors too… but I haven’t read any authologies by them *gg* just the “ordinary” books…

March 24th, 2010 at 5:06 am
oh, Danny, how did that happened??? get well soon *hugs*
March 24th, 2010 at 5:16 am
@ Ina,
the ankle overstreched several month ago and it hurt like hell. I went to a doc and he told me it was only bruised. So I had crutches for about a month, than I got sick and had bedrest for several weeks. The ankle got better but never completely okay. After I started using the foot again the pain got worse again and I went to another doc, who told me the first one didn’t do a good job. So after four more weeks of treatment and lots of pain I got a plaster this morning. I couldn’t do anything that I had planned for spring break. I just wished that he had plastered it four weeks ago.
March 24th, 2010 at 5:23 am
@Danny: oh, I would be so angry about that first doc – his job is to make it better not the other way
and I’m so sorry for your plans *hugs* maybe the weather will be bad so you can stay in? *sendingflowers*
March 24th, 2010 at 5:29 am
@ Ina, @Danny and everyone else. Good morning this fine Wednesday, middle of the week is already here again.
Ina you sound so chipper and that is good, must be sun shining where you are!
Danny just hope that you get better without the surgery and yes it would have been nice if the first doctor would have put you in a cast, might have had your ankle well by now…
@Pam did not know Allyson James was also Jennifer Ashley, not surprised though almost every author I have not read has an AKA… I am going to try out the Dragon books though…

March 24th, 2010 at 5:45 am
Thanks Ina,
I am really angry about both docs, because each of them made mistakes. When I got to the second one I especially asked him if he could do something so that the leg would be able to rest, but nothing. I shouldn’t have been surprised because I have been there for 6 six months and I am still waiting for a presciption for physical therapy. Each time he says next time I will get it. And now walking with crutches won’t help my back pain.
March 24th, 2010 at 5:47 am
@ Jackie,
wow you are an really early bird this morning.
March 24th, 2010 at 5:51 am
yep, definitively sun
I’m sitting in the library at the university and waiting for me next course and chatting here with you! and it’a already Wednesday – a perfect day for me :)
March 24th, 2010 at 5:53 am
@Danny: can’t you go directly to the hospital or the physical therapist? there must be something to do!!
March 24th, 2010 at 5:54 am
Our term won’t start for another three weeks.
March 24th, 2010 at 5:58 am
@ Ina,
I went to a hospital early January and they told me how important it is that I get PT, they also stressed this need in the report that my doc got, but he doesn’t seem to care. Now he 2 weeks on vacation from this weekend onward, so I won’t be able to get a prescription and I don’t think that I will get one when I have my next appointment on April 15th. He knows that I have constant back pain and that it will now gets worse, but he doesn’t care.
March 24th, 2010 at 5:58 am
@Jackie: the next book I will read is Hidden Currents by Christine Feehan – it’s the 7th book of her Drake Sister series and I loved the other books, but I’ve heard a lot of bad things about that one…
and I’m currently reading my first (!!) ebook
No Matter what by Erin Nicholas and I really like it…it’s nothing paranormal and I think it will be a keeper in my ebook-bookshelf *gg*
and you? what are you reading? or doing?
March 24th, 2010 at 5:59 am
@ Ina,
be careful ebooks can be addictive. LOL

@Jackie B: you mentioned your blog above and now it’s your fault that I don’t learn for my course because I’ve to explore your blog
and the first impression was very very good!!
March 24th, 2010 at 7:10 am
@Ina, you been blog hopping on my little goofie place!!
Now on to Hidden Currents again. “Like”
is maybe to strong a word, read and enjoyed parts of is a better way to put it.
Ina, if you mean what took place with the youngest sister it was off putting yes. However if you take it for what it is, the next step in line to getting all the sisters their HEA then it was all par for the course of the story line. This book was rather shocking from the view point of some readers, but think about the fact that all the books Feehan writes are very graphic and it kind of puts it into perspective…
I would not say that makes this installment any better or any worse just kind of harder to read this particular story line..

Strange,
I love Christine Feehan’s Dark, Leopard and Ghostwalker books but I never got hooked with the Sister series.
March 24th, 2010 at 7:29 am
thanks for your opinion! now I can’t wait to read it and see for myself…
March 24th, 2010 at 7:46 am
@ Danny the Leopards series by Feehan is my favorite of all of them followed by the Ghost Walkers. I am partial to shifter stories and then the paranormal abilities that have been created for the Walkers keep me coming back for more, gotta see what Feehan gives as a “power” to what character!

March 24th, 2010 at 11:23 am
I’m going to have to check Skin Game out since I’m reading it’s so good. I was going to “kindle” it but maybe I should buy a hard copy since my library doesn’t own it.
March 24th, 2010 at 11:27 am
Wouldn’t that be great to have a job where we could read?! At least part of the time? I can read but I since I am self-employed I don’t get paid for it.
I finished reading Blue Dieblo during my “worktime” – I really have little self-control when I am reading a good book.
March 24th, 2010 at 11:33 am
lol… I can read “hot” books here at work b/c I hide the covers… I’m pretty sure they would disapprove if they knew… we have a lot of downtime so they don’t care that we read… we just have to “look” busy/professional…
Heather… Skin Games is by an author we all know and love *winkwink*
Danny… you’re sooo lucky… I always wanted to “read” professionally but I don’t think that I could write reviews… I usually like most anything… but I only *luv* a few…
Jackie… I’m having a lot of fun… I just said influence cuz I’m on a book allowance! which I have to stick to… I do! Cuz I’m more than capable of reading myself out of house and home…

March 24th, 2010 at 2:50 pm
Heather, sorry got caught up in another conversation elsewhere. I do not mind you asking what I do now, simply put as little as possible.. Kidding, no longer work a “job” but am full time at home after many years of working full time and taking care of everything else during lunch breaks and before and after work and on weekends. My DH makes enough now to support the 2 of us and our little furry fiends so it worked out 8 years ago to where I got to stay home full time. I am an only child so because of my parents health and age moved them in to live with us almost 4 years ago. Dad passed last June and now it is just my Mom. Between her Dr visits, the grocery runs, WalMart, Post Office and taking care of all the sundry things in the house and
our 1/4 acre of yard it keeps me busy. I have plenty of play time, but not a lot of “rest” time because do not sleep well at night due to insomnia. I am glad to be out of the rat race of the job market, very glad…
Sorry this is too long, I am wordy…

March 24th, 2010 at 3:39 pm
The new format is cool! I like it! :-D
March 24th, 2010 at 3:40 pm
Hah, I wondered what happened to the party. I get the comments in my feedreader, and they suddenly stopped. It took me a while to think to check for a new post!
March 24th, 2010 at 3:46 pm
@emmad – “Do your reading taste’s reflect in part at least what your parents read?”
Not at all. My Dad reads a lot, at least he used to when he had time, but he doesn’t read fiction and my Mom rarely reads anything. They both frown on my Romance reading. :(
March 24th, 2010 at 3:51 pm
Morning everyone *chuckle*
Oh wow love the new format. And the progress bar at the top is very cool to.
Will have to go look around again :)
Finished Eileen Wilks Tempting Danger last night. Very good.
With Christine Feehan I prefer the Shadowalker series.
March 24th, 2010 at 5:22 pm
Wow, had to hunt to find what had happened to the lottery, finally found this new page. It really changed around here in a day! The wall is on it’s side, but I’ve seen them laid that way before, not an easy task. Love the color scheme, has an eerie dusky feel. Great work!
March 24th, 2010 at 5:28 pm
Morning Emmad, love the Rule and Lily books, have to read the latest one soon…
The Ghost Walkers by Feehan has some interesting twists and turns that is for sure. Street Game is sitting there, need to read it already…

I recently read the latest rule and lily book and loved it. I have to catch up on the ghostwalker series
March 24th, 2010 at 6:10 pm
I knew when I was typing I didn’t have the name quite right lol.
Ghost Walkers it is. I’ve read Street Game nahnah.
Found my library have the 2nd and 3rd Rule and Lily books so have placed a hold on them.
March 24th, 2010 at 6:29 pm
Just finished reading Nicole Peeler’s Tempest Rising – a fabulous book. I’d really love to win Erica Hayes’ Shadowglass. She’s a new author for me and the book sounds like a great read.
March 24th, 2010 at 6:40 pm
Emmad, you are too much. You are however truly going to become addicted to lily and rules shenanigans… And Street Game is calling but have others want to read right now, I keep saying that too much about every book on the stack. That is why they keep getting left on the stack:)

I know I haven’t been around too much lately…I’m going through withdrawal from my meds so I’ve kinda been sick as a dog. I’m going to the doctor on Saturday since he won’t be in before then.
Regarding the question about where I picked up my love of reading…it’s really funny since my Mum doesn’t really read books all that often… She’s a fashion magazine hound…for as long as I can remember she’d be reading those so I guess that’s how I fell in love with the written word. She does occasionally read romances and I did discover the genre via her stash of Barbara Cartland novels so I owe my fascination with the genre to her.

“Morning Emmad, love the Rule and Lily books, have to read the latest one soon…”
Jackie-I love Lily and Rule too! I just “discovered” them & bought the last 3 in the series. Totally went over book allowance to do that! I like Cynna and Cullen tons too – maybe almost as much. My all time fave couple is Mercy & Adam (Patricia Briggs) although the Mercy Thompson series is urban fantasy not a romance.
March 24th, 2010 at 9:29 pm
My all time fave couple is Bones and Cat from the Night huntress series I have to get the spin off book Drop of Crimson.
March 24th, 2010 at 9:39 pm

Good morning everyone!
lol… so found out last night that my 7 mo. old puppy is worth at least $147… how do I know you ask? Cuz, he ate that much! he got a hold of a wallet and proceeded to shred… got home and found pieces of money scattered around… being as cheap as I am, I attempted to tape it all back together, but of course the biggest bill he ate (a 100) is unsavable… siiiigh… luckily it wasn’t my money but I guess we learned to start puppy proofing the house better…
Everyone have an awesome day today!
March 25th, 2010 at 9:00 am

Jess Granger – Beyond the Shadows (The reviews have been amazing so far)

Thanks for asking how I am doing. At the moment is my back and ankle killing me. As long as I keep my weight of my ankle the pain is bearable, but my back is killing me, walking on crutches isn’t the best thing for it.
March 25th, 2010 at 1:13 pm
Hey Danny, knew you said the back pain was pretty constant. I am sorry for that, know how much any kind of back problems make us miserable and continuous pain is the worst thing because cannot relax to sleep or really even rest!
Glad though the ankle is bearable, long time till you see a doctor again…
Take care and thanks for thinking of me and I am an OCD freak about emailing the stuff to myself with the page and comment to check back on when enter anything!!!

Jackie – have you tried Google Reader to keep track of blogs? It’s a big help for me knowing where to check back. You can scroll quickly through your subscriptions and click on posts you want to get to, and “star” particular ones you want to get back to for followup. I didn’t follow many until a friend suggested using Google Reader.

Hi everyone
Congratulations Barbara :)
Do you read different types of books depending on your moods?
I know after I’ve read something that really sucks me in and takes over I like to just get a light romance where I know boy meets girl they have issues then live happily every after lol.
If I’m having a rough time in real life like a book that will suck me in so I can forget about the other issues for a while.

I’m completely addicted to Google Reader…I would be clueless as to what’s going on in the blogosphere without it.
You can just copy a URL of a blog – click on add to subscription and follow the blog…I even have custom feeds for sites that aren’t blogs but I want to be uptodate on their latest posts so you follow the same steps and it’ll do a site synopsis whenever there’s new content. It’s a really nifty program to use…worth looking into for all blogaholics :)

Delitealex on Naughton:
I still have to read the 3rd. Stolen Seduction. I think of the first two, I’d have to go with the first, Stolen Fury as my favorite. Strong, feisty heroine, and the hero, Rafe, is very charming and sexy. These two had great chemistry.
BTW, I see she’s been nominated for Ritas, for Stolen Fury and as Debut Author, congratulations to Elisabeth.

Vivi Anna’s The Vampire’s Quest

Hey Emmad,
I definitely read books based on my mood…it’s the only way to go for me :)
I have a question for everyone…Have you ever read book that was either soo depressing or just plain bad that you had to pick up something right away just to re-set your equilibrium?
I’m asking b/c the other day I found myself with not one but two (back to back) books that were just plain depressing…well one was depressing and the other one was just a disappointment. I was so bummed out that I had to find something in my ebook collection (a quickie) to just cleanse my palate.
March 26th, 2010 at 8:50 am
modified list
Hunter’s Need by Shiloh Walker
Twist by Colby Hodge
Marked by Elizabeth Naughton
Beyond the Shadows by Jess Granger
Leave Me Breathless by HelenKay Dimon
March 26th, 2010 at 8:57 am
Anna, reading according to a mood of the day or even week is the way picking material has always been for me.
As far as reading a book too depressing or bad and having to “re-set my equilibrium”, have done this when read something that just grossed me out in the past. Had to immediately go to the TBR shelf and get something light and fun to get that ick to go away!!
Hope you are feeling better and let me know how Primordial goes when you read it.
jackie b central texas
March 26th, 2010 at 9:10 am
What a great way to put it!
“…you had to pick up something right away just to re-set your equilibrium?”
Yes! If it’s depressing or icky, I go to an old, feel good stand by to wash the taste out of my mouth. But usually if a book is really bad I skip to the ending & bypass most of it. Life is too short to read bad books but I still like to know how they end.
March 26th, 2010 at 9:17 am
I’m the same way… usually I pick something completely different from what I read or a favorite author I’ve already read… for some weird reason lately, my “reset” books have all been Dean Koontz… dunno why… I just love him… I’ve put back books into my TBR pile to read later if my mood doesn’t fit…
Just finished Deadtown by Nancy Holzner… very good… fast pacing and a very interesting concept… Right now I’m working through my TBR pile which has gotten very large lately… not that I’m complaining :) Started Amazon Ink by Loiri Devoti last night and so far so good!
March 26th, 2010 at 9:21 am

Hunter’s Need
Sanctuary
Goddess of the Hunt
Bitter Night
Twist
My palate needs cleansing after some of the more intense dark urban fantasies… so I pick up a funky menage or cowboy love story to make me smile!
March 26th, 2010 at 9:36 am
I’ve had many a book that really had me down when I finished it. Then it is time for very light and fluffy to pick me up from the residual depression.
Thankfully, I don’t read a lot of stuff that really has me down when I finish.
March 26th, 2010 at 9:55 am
Lol… I liked Tina too..

Are there any books or authors you just counldn’t get into for whatever reason.
March 26th, 2010 at 11:40 am
As a young twenty something oh so many years ago, watched the movie “The Howling” and then tried to read the book. Had to get it and get it out of my house, the graphic description of one scene just tore me up too much and the book was actually trashed it upset me so much. To this day it gives me an upset stomach when I remember it..
jackie b central texas
March 26th, 2010 at 11:44 am
there are a few authors that I really can’t get into. different reasons but one I didn’t like the way the book ended and another the writing just drove me nuts (though I believe the author is popular as there was at least one other book writen after the one I tried) It was more that it just wasn’t what I liked to read. :-)
March 26th, 2010 at 11:55 am

Cynthia Eden – Eternal Hunter
Moira Rogers – Sanctuary
HelenKay Dimon – Leave Me Breathless
and Megan Hart – No Greater Pleasure
March 26th, 2010 at 12:21 pm
Congratulations again to all the winners.
Shiloh Walker’s Hunter’s Need.
Moira Rogers’ Sanctuary.
Diana Pharoah Francis’ Bitter Night.
Cynthia Eden’s Eternal Hunter.
Colby Hodge’s Twist.
I can’t stay long. Off to inspire myself to go walking!
March 26th, 2010 at 12:30 pm
@ Danny I’ve tried two series by L A Banks but just couldn’t get into it. I Like Nora Roberts paranormal books and the ones she writes as J D Robb.
March 26th, 2010 at 12:32 pm
It’s always so weird when people are talking about how great certain books are, but you can’t get into them. I gave them several chances, but it wasn’t a mood thing
March 26th, 2010 at 1:02 pm
@ Ina,
I was wondering where you were. Good to see you back
March 26th, 2010 at 1:12 pm
Congratulations, Anna.
Except for HelenKay’s which I own, all the books left sound good.
March 26th, 2010 at 1:43 pm
Pretty new look!
Sanctuary
Leave Me Breathless
Beyond the Shadows
No Greater Pleasure
Marked
And yes, I agree, Danny–it’s hard when you’ve tried and just can’t see the appeal. Although I guess that’s why there are sooooo many books out there–we can all read what we like :)
March 26th, 2010 at 1:46 pm
I find that I love the JD Robb stories more than those under Nora Roberts. They are a bit edgier, with great suspense storylines, and of course, there is Roarke, lol.
I am still in good shape with my list:
Marked by Elisabeth Naughton
Beyond the Shadows by Jess Granger
The Stranger’s Secrets by Beth Williamson
Leave Me Breathless by HelenKay Dimon
Eternal Hunter by Cynthia Eden
March 26th, 2010 at 1:57 pm
@ Fedora,
fortunately there are so many books to choose from and that we have different reading tastes. The funny thing is that I normally have the same taste like my friends, but with some of their favorite authors I really have problems. LOL. It’s weird.
March 26th, 2010 at 2:02 pm
On my wish list are
1. Elisabeth Naughton’s “Marked”
2. Cynthia Eden’s “Eternal Hunter”
3. Shiloh Walker’s “Hunter’s Need”
4. Megan Hart’s “No Greater Pleasure”
5. Julie Leto’s “More Blazing Bedtime Stories”
March 26th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
@Danny: yeah, I’m so happy to be back :) I really missed our chats… but, instead I had enough time to read and I’m up to the last few pages of Hidden Currents by Christine Feehan…
sorry if I ask again (I havn’t read yet all the posts since Wednesday), but how are you??
March 26th, 2010 at 2:17 pm
Sometimes I find that I just can’t get into a book. Then I’ll pick it up months later, really enjoy it and wonder why it took me so long to get around to reading it. I think that sometimes it depends on what kind of mood I’m in.
March 26th, 2010 at 2:20 pm
@Jackie B: you were right with Hidden Currents – the book is not that bad… the beginning was a little bit tough, but I liked the progress between Elle and Jackson and now I can’t wait to finish it :)
March 26th, 2010 at 2:46 pm
@Cathy M: *gg* my opinion is just the other way around… I like NRs books more as JD Robbs – for me it was never possible to get really in contact with Eve…
March 26th, 2010 at 3:07 pm
re: Elisabeth Naughton
I’ve seen her recommended a lot, but I’m not that into Romantic Suspense. I used to read it until I got burned out on some that were more Suspense than Romance. I want the focus of the book to be on the relationship not on the suspense. Basically, I want a romance that happens in suspenseful circumstances.
How are Elisabeth Naughton’s books in the Romance department?
March 26th, 2010 at 3:36 pm
@Ina, so happy you are past the “discomfort” and really into Elle and Jackson’s romance progress! I was hoping you would not give up on HC and finish it.
NR is one of my fun romance authors to read Ina and the JD Robb books she writes with Eve and Roarke are my sit on the edge of my seat make myself think futuristic dark thriller pleasures… See a writer with dual nature and she appeals to both My HEA side and my let’s get the bad guy side too!

@Jackie B: I love Christine Feehans books and I’m really glad I picked that one up – would have missed a lot!! and all in all it’s a great ending for this series :)
and I can’t wait to read her new one starting with Water Bound…
March 26th, 2010 at 3:57 pm
@MaryK: I haven’t had the chance yet to read one of her books, but I heard a lot of good things about it and I already pre-orderd Marked ;)
but Elisabeth has excerpts on her website, maybe you will get a first impression there!
March 26th, 2010 at 4:07 pm
oh, and I have to tell you all about a new series I discovered for me!!! it starts with Rescue Me by Christy Reece and I loved reading it and finished it on a day :) during reading it I was speechless and I was totally in the story all along!
the entirely series has 6 books so far and I can’t wait for the next 1st (April) to make my next big order :)
March 26th, 2010 at 4:09 pm
so, I’m off for the night – see you all tomorrow *waving*
March 26th, 2010 at 4:12 pm
@Ina, oh goodie and I too am waiting on the next story in Water Bound. I have not looked up her web site info lately on Feehan, does it indicate do you know how many Drakes there are to be written?
As far as Elisabeth Naughton is concerned I am with you Ina, heard lots of good stuff about Marked and time is counting down fast now!!!

@ Jackie I need to catch up on the drake sisters series I haven’t read Hidden currents yet. I think my fave of the series is Joleys story.

I’m about to start reading The Dead-Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan :) I’m excited!
March 26th, 2010 at 5:11 pm
@delitealex, my favorite so far is Hannah’s story. I was so glad to see it finally written..
I am looking forward to the next Leopard book coming out at the end of April, “Wild Fire”.
March 26th, 2010 at 6:04 pm
Congrats Anna on your win!
Wish list is:

The Rose of Shanhasson
Hunter’s Need
Beyond the Shadows

March 26th, 2010 at 6:44 pm
Mary, I understand what you mean about RS, though I’m happy with those myself even if light on romance. Not the case with Naughton, you will get the romance and chemistry with the characters. Give her a try.
March 26th, 2010 at 6:55 pm
On cleaning the palate, I did finally read one not long ago by a new-to-me author and so disappointed, I made sure the next book I picked up was by a favorite author who never disappoints. And it was a book recommended by a few, so I understand your posts about not always loving what others do, even when you and your friends tend to like the same stories. No one agrees 100%, we all have different pushbuttons that might come into play. Personally I don’t have many of those, pretty open-minded with my fiction vs. real-life opinions.
Also, I’ve sometimes read a book that’s outstanding, and will then next read a different genre, so it’s doesn’t affect my judgment reading another similar type book right after that may be another very good or excellent story, but just not comparable to that outstanding one.
Looks like I finally have my condo sold as long as they get the mtg ok, better days ahead finally!
March 26th, 2010 at 10:06 pm
Congrats Anna!

@ Ina,
my back and ankle are killing me. I went out yesterday and that was mistake I won’t do again soon. It’s pretty hard to keep the weight on only the crutches and one leg. The muscles in my back are cramping so I will just sit around, read and chat with you all
March 27th, 2010 at 5:48 am
Good morning everyone,
hope you all have a great weekend!
March 27th, 2010 at 7:43 am
@Danny: good morning too :) hope you can enjoy the day!! but the positive effect is you can read all day long *gg*
March 27th, 2010 at 8:06 am
@Jackie B: according to her homepage the story will be about Lev Prakenskii (Sid) and Rikki and it seems it begins where Hidden Currents ended…
and we all know that Ilya has 6 brothers and hopefully she will write their stories too :D
March 27th, 2010 at 8:14 am
@delitealex
I tried to read Karen Chance’s Cassandra Palmer series. After the couple of chapters, I just couldn’t go further. I hated everything about the book.
March 27th, 2010 at 9:04 am
@Katie: after weeks of reading I finished book 1 by Karen Chance… all in all it was interesting, but the world she created is very complicated and multifaceted so that I lost track…
March 27th, 2010 at 9:07 am
Morning Peoples, Happy Saturday!
@Ina, saw the blurb on Water Bound and glad to see Feehan start another series in Sea Haven. Still no idea though if the Drake’s are done but you are right there are 6 more brothers so there is always a chance of their stories….
Finished Amazon Ink at 5 mins to midnight and it was not bad….

Good morning everyone.
@Danny I’m sorry to hear your not feeling so well.
I haven’t read Karen Chances series but I have read a short story of hers in an anthology.
I always hate to see series ending and am happy to see a new series set in Sea Haven.
Does anyone know if Molly Harpers Jane Jameson series is over.
March 27th, 2010 at 10:17 am
Today I’m starting Queen of Song and Souls by CL Wilson. What’s everyone else reading?
I have a countdown going for Tuesday when Silver Borne (new Mercy Thompson) comes out – I was really bummed when Patricia Brigg’s new releases switched from paperback to hardcover. I dislike paying hardcover prices.
March 27th, 2010 at 10:32 am
Good morning! Woke to an incredibly awake and playful puppy. Had to spend 30 minutes playing so he’ll leave me alone to check you on guys! Lol… he’s “watching” TV right now… he loves Dogs 101 on animal planet… go figure :)
Oh, I liked Karen Chance’s Cassandra Series. It’s hard to get into at first, (I had to reread it in order to get everything straight) but the next 2 books are really addictive… nonstop action and the new series spin off is very good too. Mircea is the perfect tall, dark and mysterious love interest but he’s not constantly “saving” her which I like…
Jackie – I finished Amazon Ink last night too! I liked it… definitely going to get the 2nd… Now I’m 1/2 through Crux… it’s awesome! If we’re allowed to win again, I want Sanctuary!
ok… here’s hoping that you all can relax and enjoy your weekends!
March 27th, 2010 at 10:39 am
Heather – I’m right there w/ you! I just reread all the other books so it’s fresh in my mind… *wiggles* can’t wait! (this is the one exception I’ve made to the book allowance)
I also love the J.D. Robb’s series… the last one wasn’t as awesome as they usually are, but considering it’s pushing 30 books, I’m just happy she isn’t ending it anytime soon…
I’ve been thinking about trying Christine Feehan but she’s got a daunting backlist and right now, my TBR pile is huge!
Right now, my squee worthy new releases are Patricia Briggs and Ann… counting down!
March 27th, 2010 at 11:26 am
Hey @Erin, Amazon Ink by Lori Devoti was a really neat new UF world to explore. My DH favorite of the Tat shows is LA Ink and somehow Kat on the show has become Mel for me, guess her gorgeous tattooing skills and aggressive personality…
Cassie, Dorina and Mircea and all the family intrigue is cool. Like the fact that Karen Chance intertwined the 2 different series and their leading characters…
Moira Rogers next book in the series is Crossroads and is already out in e-book, later on in fall comes out in print.

@ Heather
I am reading Conquest by SJ Frost and I will start with To sin with a scoundrel by Cara Elliott this evening
March 27th, 2010 at 2:08 pm
@Heather
I agree with you. They did the same thing with Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden series. I usually wait until someone has a good deal – 40% off or more to pre-order hardcovers. Or I get them from the library (I hate to wait for them) and then buy the paperback.
March 27th, 2010 at 3:03 pm
Hi guys!
Danny — hope that you’re feeling better today!
Lol… this giveaway is so awesome for me not only cuz I won an awesome book which I recommend to all of you (Crux by Moira Rogers — just finished it and it was wonderful!) but I’ve been checking out a lot of the other authors and now have so many new books to read!
Now starting Spider’s bite by Jennifer Estep… found it @ Walmart and remembered you guys raving… luckily I have a boyfriend who loves his xbox as much as I love to read so there’s no griping about time spent reading (or playing). In case you haven’t noticed, I can read a good book in about a day or two so I’m always looking for new authors… Thanks everyone! Ok… now I really gotta go run errands… was putting it off to finish Crux.
Have a great day!
March 27th, 2010 at 3:04 pm

I am almost finished reading Beyond the Rain by Jess Granger, and next up is Take Me by Shelli Stevens.

@Sandy G- I get a lot from the library too but sometimes I am just too impatient & kindle is too easy (I really need to get rid of 1-click buy)
@Erin – You’ll have to let me know what you think when u get done with Silver Borne. The excerpt on Brigg’s page is good.

Question going out to ebook reader owners here :
How are your devices handling .pdf ebook transferred from your computer?
I’m always visiting various forums to get a clearer picture b/c there isn’t much chance of me being to play with a live model since very few stores here in Ottawa actually carry them. I went to the Best Buy but there wasn’t any way for them to show me transferred .pdf files on the reader…Get this, the Sony store here didn’t even have any ereaders in the store. Can you believe that? AAARRGGHHH!!!
I’m currently reading all my .pdf books on my macbook and all the books purchased at Fictionwise on my eBookwise 11?? reader which is just brilliant but can’t handle any .pdfs or converted .pdf (.txt/.doc) files…*sigh*

Anna, I don’t know much about Macs, but I like Mobipocket, which can convert many formats for various readers, including pdfs. I use Mobi to convert any pdfs and html files I have for my Kindle and then send to the Kindle using my USB for free. Various free converters around if you google (though I don’t know anything about for a Mac), like I use free overdrive and/or Amberlit to convert files to MS Reader lit format for my handheld.

Having an awesome Sunday! Went out to breakfast and came home and walked all the babies…still a bit chilly here… the 2 littlest are currently curled up my lap under a blanket sleeping since we intentionally took them for a very long walk to tire the lil’ onery ones out! and it worked! but it backfired on me cuz now I have 55 pds of puppies sprawled on me and I can’t move :) Ah well… my excuse to sit around and read :)
Finished Spider Bite by Jennifer Estep and it was awesome… can’t wait for the next to come out…

Sometimes it is a shock because I forgot that a book was already bought and go around the house whining to myself, look on the shelf and find it is sitting there ready to read. Almost like Christmas present if did not feel like such a ding dong for not realizing had the book for a month or so already, bad thing is the books are on a list in my computer… :)

The book I won came today!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
Thanks to Ann and Maggie (author of Mistress by Mistake).
It just came in the mail today. I just sat down to work & if I get an hour in, I’m going to take an hour break to read. Wahooo! Good motivation as long as I don’t cheat and start early.
March 29th, 2010 at 9:09 pm
lol… I was able to start on Blood of the Demon today waiting for a tow truck… siiiigh… Gertrude (my car) gave a huge gasp and cough and died at an intersection… during rush hour. People are *not* nice at the end of the day. Luckily the traffic light was out and a police officer was there directing traffic. He came over and pushed me into a gas station. Bleh…you never realize how much you are dependent on technology until it is broken!
But it was gratifying to finally get home and have a frantic puppy tell me how much he loves me and how dare I come home late cuz he was wooooorried…
Cross your fingers for me that the repair is quick and I won’t have to sell my soul to fix Gerty. She’s a good ol’ broad but she’s getting up there and I might have to send her out to pasture if it’s too expensive.
Hope that everyone had a better day than me…lol :)

Okay,
I am curious today, do you listen to music while you are reading? And if so do you choose musice that fits to the genre?
March 30th, 2010 at 9:00 am
@ Danny
I’m glad someone has sunshine. It’s windy and raining in NJ. They are talking about flooding.
On the bright side the book I won, Magic and Madness, came last night. Now I just need to find time to read it.
March 30th, 2010 at 9:12 am
@ Sandy,
ouch flooding has been quite a problem all around the world as it seems. The weather is really strange.
Enjoy your book, I haven’t read anything by Amy Gregg so far
March 30th, 2010 at 9:15 am
Congrats Katie!
and thanks Adel and Katie for the well wishing. Sadly, I’m already planning on Gerty’s funeral… Funny, but I miss the drive into work. It’s about 30 minutes – good time to myself and while I love my bf, it seemed like an intrusion to have him in my “me” time! But can’t say no to a free ride :)
@Danny – I usually don’t listen to music while I read b/c it all fades out until I’m aware of only what I’m reading. It annoys my family b/c they have to work to get my attention back! Sometimes I leave the TV on, but usually I end up turning it off.
Well… everyone have a wonderful Tuesday!
March 30th, 2010 at 9:20 am
@Danny – I like to listen to techno/electronica in the back ground when I read BUT the really strange thing is when I am reading and the TV music adds a whole new feeling to the passage… something innocent in silence becomes ominous with a minor key melody echoing in the background.
March 30th, 2010 at 9:36 am
@ Miranda, okay I normally like music when I read, but I couldn’t concentrate on the book when I listen to techno. But I guess that is a matter of taste. LOL
March 30th, 2010 at 9:37 am
@ Erin,
I am sorry to hear that about your car. Hugs
March 30th, 2010 at 10:02 am
Thanks Danny! How are you feeling? hopefully better :)
March 30th, 2010 at 10:32 am
@ Erin,
unfortunately not. Neither the pain in the ankle nor the back pain resulting from the crutches is lessening. The back I understand, but I worry about the ankle.
March 30th, 2010 at 10:47 am
Congrats Katie.
My picks
Eternal Hunter
Hunters need
Bitter night
Goddess of the hunt
Beyond the Shadows
We’re having a nice day so far I’ll probably take my boys outside to run around.
March 30th, 2010 at 11:09 am
@Danny — *hugs*
are your crutches adjust right? The back pain could be from hunching too far and the ankle pain cuz the crutches aren’t tall enough to keep your weight off… I know it must be annoying to get unsolicited advice… sorry :)
March 30th, 2010 at 11:25 am
@ Erin,
no it’s a great advice, but they are adjusted right. I think if I had those that would go under the arms it would be much easier. My back muscles have a tendency to cramp and get tense and the walking on crutches is making that situation even worse.
March 30th, 2010 at 11:32 am
@Danny — poor kid! I will be sending you warm thoughts all day so hopefully you can sit back and relax. The loin-cloth slave men and the scantily clad serving girls are in the mail and should get there shortly, so you’ll have to fan and feed yourself grapes. It was too expensive to express messenger. ;)
March 30th, 2010 at 12:09 pm

@ Ina We had a great time. My baby girl turned 3 yesterday so we took her to Houston to visit Build A Bear. We also watched How to Train Your Dragon. So cute!
On book budgets I would say I spend about $50. Maybe more if we go out of town and there are bookstores. I hit Half Price Books in Houston yesterday. Very cool store. I wish we had one close by.
March 30th, 2010 at 12:50 pm
@Erin: that’s a good tactic ;) enjoy reading!

@ Erin, I’m dying to read Silver Borne. Patricia Briggs is doing a signing in Houston next month and I am hoping to go. She’ll only sign books bought at the actual store where the signing is being held. I might buy if for my kindle and buy another copy in Houston. I love that series!

My list
Eternal Hunter

Goddess of the hunt
Beyond the Shadows
March 30th, 2010 at 1:22 pm
Danny I like having music on in the background but don’t often get it lol.
Also admit to being a bit like Erin in that once I’m fully engaged in my book I don’t actually notice anything else lol.
Hmm a book budget. I wish sigh. At the moment what I’m doing is selling my books (except for a select few) and using the money to purchase more then keeping that cycle going :)
March 30th, 2010 at 1:43 pm
Congrats Allison.
I try not to spend more than $40 a month on books. I try to get books that I’m only going to read once from the library and used book stores. And twice a year there is a huge rummage sale about twenty minutes from me where they have a whole building for books (paperbacks start at 50 cents and hardcovers start at $1.00. Of course winning them in contests is always good too.
March 30th, 2010 at 1:44 pm
@delitealex — the Alpha and Omega series is great! It fleshes out Bran a lot more and Charles is completely different from Samuel. You’ll fall in love w/ Anna although I wasn’t a fan of her initially but she grew on me. There is a novella that starts out the Alpha and Omega series in the Anthology “On the Prowl” that you must read first as it explains how Charles and Anna met.
@Christie — hopefully you can go! I’ve never been to a book signing, but I want to. They say that the more books that are sold in a bookstore during a signing, the more the bookstore will order for that author. So that’s probably why Briggs is limiting signing to the bookstore to help out their sales.
1/2 Price Books is *awesome*! We have one here in Omaha and I spend about $50 avg. every time I go so I limit myself to once a month. The stock is constantly rotating so I always find what I’m looking for and it’s very good prices. As for new releases, I make a list and I’m only allowed to buy off that list in the commercial bookstores. I find new authors at 1/2 price books where it’s cheaper. That way if I don’t like it, I’m not out full price and I can trade it back.
March 30th, 2010 at 1:45 pm
@ delitealex
I’ve read the Alpha & Omega series but I like Mercy better
March 30th, 2010 at 1:58 pm
I like Mercy better too but I do like that you learn more about where Mercy basically grew up and about Bran in the Alpha Omega series. I haven’t read Hunting Ground yet though.
March 30th, 2010 at 2:04 pm
@ Ina Thanks! 3 is a great age :)
@delitealex I agree w/ Sandy G. Alpha & Omega is good but Mercy is better.
@ Erin I’m totally hooked on 1/2 Price Books now. I bought 4 books from my wish list for $16.98 and that included tax. All were like new. I can’t buy books with cracked spines. I guess I’m a used book snob LOL I’m taking a box of my used books to trade during my next trip to Houston.
I hope I can go as well. It would be my first signing. I have no issue with waiting to buy but I really want to read it like NOW LOL. Succubus Shadows is entertaining me for the moment :) When I’m finished we’ll see how long I hold out before downloading Silver Borne to my kindle.
March 30th, 2010 at 2:29 pm
@ Ina,
funny thing I need my ipod to be able to read on the train.
March 30th, 2010 at 2:30 pm

@ Erin, I just discovered Patricia Briggs’ books recently, but I really like them
Have you read Rachel Vincent’s books?
March 30th, 2010 at 2:36 pm
WB Christie,
Houston has some great stores, I was there for the RT convention three years ago. It was fun.
March 30th, 2010 at 2:39 pm
Never been to a 1/2 Price book store, but I guess it’s something similar to The book warehouse. I love to go there when I am in Florida.
March 30th, 2010 at 2:39 pm
@ Christie,
happy birthday to your little girl. I bet she loved Build a bear. It’s a cool store.
March 30th, 2010 at 2:41 pm
@erin “There is a novella that starts out the Alpha and Omega series in the Anthology “On the Prowl” that you must read first as it explains how Charles and Anna met.”
It’s possibly one of the best Romance short stories ever written. And, I like Charles a lot; but after the first book, I think I’m mainly reading for Bran now. :)
March 30th, 2010 at 2:42 pm
Congrats to Allison.
March 30th, 2010 at 2:43 pm
1. Cynthia Eden’s “Eternal Hunter”
2. Shiloh Walker’s “Hunter’s Need”
3. Megan Hart’s “No Greater Pleasure”
4. Julie Leto’s “More Blazing Bedtime Stories”
5. Moira Rogers’ “Sanctuary”
March 30th, 2010 at 2:46 pm
@Danny — no but I want to… I’m keeping an eye out for her books at 1/2 price bookstore. I also really want to try Yasmine Galenon’s witches series. But I have such a big TBR pile that it’s gonna be a while until I can justify buying them.
March 30th, 2010 at 2:52 pm
@Maryk — oh but Hunting Ground (bk 2) is sooo much better… Bran’s hardly in that book but it explains a lot more about the pack and pack hierarchy. This is the book that I started to like Anna a lot more. But I can see what you mean about Bran. His character is a lot more endearing after the first book. He’s not just the all powerful, heartless leader. It will be interesting to see if Briggs ever does anything about Leah. The first book picks up literally right where the novella left off so it’s a little confusing at first but I do like the alternate view of Mercy’s world.
March 30th, 2010 at 2:55 pm
@ Erin,
I discovered Rachel Vincent’s books shortly after Patricia Briggs. It’s about feline shifters
March 30th, 2010 at 3:09 pm
I am off to write something more on my story. Try to be back later, if not have a great evening. See you all tomorrow. Sweet dreams
March 30th, 2010 at 3:13 pm
@ Danny Thanks! We loved Build A Bear. I hope they have some convention in Houston while I’m living close. I’d love to attend one. I’m in love with the city. Just big enough but no over crowded. I didn’t want to come home.
@ MaryK I agree about the novella. It was fabulous. I adore Bran as well. I also like Sage who isn’t a huge character but the snippets we saw made me love her. I wish Bran was with her instead of Leah :( I hope we see more of her in future Alpha & Omega books.
March 30th, 2010 at 3:15 pm
I’ve read the first 2 books of Rachel Vincents shifter series. Haven’t got to the others yet with so many new books and series coming out. My faves books usually are about shifters.
March 30th, 2010 at 3:22 pm
@ Christie,
Houston was my first trip outside of Florida. I loved it there. Although some people though I was crazy when I walked several blocks from the hotel to the Hard Rock Cafe.
March 30th, 2010 at 4:10 pm
@delitealex –
LOVE the Alhpa & Omega series but make sure you read the short story that leads into the series. Give lots of background to the series itself. I think it’s from the anthology “On the Prowl” ANyone else know?
March 30th, 2010 at 4:13 pm
Congrats to Katie and Allison!

Sandy, Tairen souls I’d say is more like epic fantasy, though with the romance, too. Fey, elves, mages and magic, Tairen felines. Heros is Fey King and Tairen shifter; heroine comes into her magic. Tairens dying out, evil mage to battle, and more.
March 30th, 2010 at 4:31 pm
Congrats Allison!
New wish list down to 3 favs:
Bitter Night
Hunter’s Need
Beyond the Shadows
Yay, Bitter Night is still here! I really want to read it!
March 30th, 2010 at 4:47 pm
If you love Mercy’s books and can’t get enough of Briggs world you should definitely read her Alph and Omega series. And definitely read the short story in the On the Prowl anthology about how they met and it tells a lot about Anna. So you don’t want to miss out. I really liked the anthology story.
I’ve read the first two books in Rachel Vincent’s Shifter series and I really liked the idea of a family of feline shifters. It’s a good series.
March 30th, 2010 at 5:17 pm
@Christie I
I actually have a lot of sympathy for Leah. She’s in a Harlequin Presents relationship without the HEA! I’m hoping they work things out.
March 30th, 2010 at 5:20 pm
@Christie I
re: Leah & Bran
I should add that I was surprised when I turned sympathetic. :) I started out not liking Leah because of how she treated Mercy.
March 30th, 2010 at 5:33 pm
Oh this contest has made my wish list balloon.
Shiloh Walker’s Hunter’s Need.
Moira Rogers’ Sanctuary.
Diana Pharoah Francis’ Bitter Night.
Cynthia Eden’s Eternal Hunter.
Tessa Dare’s Goddess of the Hunt.
(But I still really want to read Crux too)
March 30th, 2010 at 5:36 pm
I’ve tried the Alpha and Omega series, but my heart still calls for Mercy. Hey that would be a great title! :-)
March 30th, 2010 at 8:10 pm
Congrats, Allison!
I really like the Alpha and Omega series. I can’t say I like it more than Mercy, but it is good!

Congratulations, Katie. I’m so behind on catching up lol.

I got to say just how much I love the covers for Mercy and Alph & Omega. They are all gorgeous! Especally Mercy. I’m in love with the covers. I wish I could get them in poster size and put them up in my room! ;)

@Adel I wouldn’t mind those posters in my room either – but then I would have to let my husband pick a poster too and that makes me shudder! :) Maybe in the library – ha! I don’t have one. :(

Hi everyone :)
*hiding* haven’t read either Alpha & Omega nor Mercy, but I don’t miss them…I don’t know why but they never caught my attention…
March 31st, 2010 at 8:15 am
@Danny: I too read Rachel Vincents books (1 and 2) and I really liked them, but they remind me a lot of Kelley Armstrongs Series with Clay and Elena…
March 31st, 2010 at 8:24 am
@ Ina,
Kelley Armstrong’s books are still somewhere in my tbr mountain
March 31st, 2010 at 8:25 am
@ Ina,
Patricia Briggs books are really good. If you liked Rachel Vincents books you will love them
March 31st, 2010 at 8:42 am
good morning! Congrats, Allison!
@Ina – oooh, you’re missing out. The Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs is very, very good. She’s on my-must-have-new-release list. I’m currently reading Silver Borne that came out yesterday and…
it..is…awesome… I’m about 3/4 done and I’m going to have to reread it (plus the Alpha and Omega series; all of us talking about them as made me want to reread).
@Danny — have you tried any of Michele Sagara’s Cast Series? They are more fantasy but they also very good. Or Laura Anne Gilman’s retriever series?
March 31st, 2010 at 8:43 am
@ Erin,
no I haven’t read them. Will have to check them out. Thanks for the recommendation
March 31st, 2010 at 9:24 am
Good morning everybody
My picks
Eternal Hunter

Bitter night
Goddess of the hunt

Kelley armstrong series is another of my faves. I like the books about elena and clay the most. Has anyone read her teen books yet. I plan to but haven’t gotten to them yet.
@ erin Michele Sagaras Cast books have caught my eye I’ll have to check them out.
March 31st, 2010 at 10:03 am
@ Delitealex — I don’t know why they market The Cast books as “romantic” fantasy cuz they really aren’t (maybe cuz they are printed by Luna an offshoot of Harlequin). Michele Sagara has said on her blog that she treats each book as an “episode” of the “series” like a TV series season, where there is a central story in each episode but season wide “arches”. They are very, very good and I definitely recommend them. I love my sexy-paranormal-urban-fantasy-learn-something-new-ehem-dont-let-your-mom-know-you’re-reading but sometimes it’s nice to read something a little simpler.
I haven’t tried Kelley Armstrong yet. Someone told me that she was a lot like Laurell Hamilton who I could not get into. I like a little story w/ my sex.
March 31st, 2010 at 10:17 am
@Erin, Kelley Armstrong does have plenty of sex in the books, unlike LKH though the story is not about the sex but has a real beginning middle and end with nice plotting and plenty of action besides what goes on in the bedroom. You will like her YA series especially because they so far have not discovered sex yet, *g*.

After much soul searching and deliberation on my re-post of a wish list have narrowed it down to the 1 that am most wishing for and hope to read that is still in the available list of books:
“Eternal Hunter” by Cynthia Eden because of couple of things. She is a new author to me and after researching her backlist would like to start reading her work and this book is the first in a new Paranormal Romance series which is my preferred reading genre .

@ erin I’ve tapered off on reading lkh although I still enjoy reading them I don’t rush to the bookstore to get them I wait for the library to get them.
Another series I enjoy is Riley Jenson by Keri Arthur.
March 31st, 2010 at 10:25 am
@ Jackie b
I’ve been trying to get to Kelley Armstrong’s YA series since my library has them but my TBR pile has migrated to three different rooms in the house. I have to clean some of them up before I can brin anything else home. Except Silver Borne which is in the mail.
March 31st, 2010 at 10:43 am
@Sandy know what you mean about the books being whittled down before getting more, I am there right now and am making a heroic effort to read and stay off the computer. The last 4 days have finally paid off and have read 6 books out of the pile and so allowed myself to make an order and Silver Borne is happily in the mail and on it’s way.
@Delitealex, Riley Jenson sadly is on the last book coming out in June but am so excited that Keri Arthur already has the newest series in the works and also am waiting on the 2nd book in the Myth&Magic series coming out in December.

@Jackie — welcome back! Glad that you were able to get some reading done :)
I think that I tried a LKH book a long time ago, it was about a chick finding out she’s a fairy(?) princess and she has to have sex w/ all these guys… needless to say, I was not impressed. I’m no prude by any means, don’t get me wrong!
LOL… so your TBR piles are huge too? My BF is always like, why don’t you read what you have? I tell him that I will, I just have a reading order to my madness :)
I will give Kelley Armstrong a try… once my TBR mountain is reduced to a smaller hill :)
March 31st, 2010 at 11:12 am
@Erin, the LKH story is about Merry Gentry and you were right to stay away if that is not your thing. I *snort* have to admit to the guilty pleasure addiction of having everyone of the 2 series by LKH and reading all of them, some more than once.
TBR pile right now is at 240 in print and who knows how many in PDF on my computer, I am slowly working my way through some of the “stand-alone” books and then when get some of my series completed will read the books back to back. The older series books am getting a little at a time from Paperback Swap so just have to get busy now and read all the books bought over the holidays last year on sale….

Danny, not bookaholics but the book obsessed!! Cannot help the fact that all those pretty reads call me to buy them and then there is not enough hours in the day to read as well as do all the other things in life. Books are a good hobby, they do not care if you take your sweet time to read them and will always wait patiently for the reader to come back once the pages are cracked open.

March 31st, 2010 at 12:28 pm
I don’t think I’ll ever get caught up on series books. Everytime I find a book I like by a new author it seems that it is the first in a series. There don’t seem to be that many new stand alone books being published lately.
March 31st, 2010 at 12:36 pm
@Danny and Erin: okay, you’ve convinced me… I will give Mercys book a try and order them…don’t know how I missed her but if you both liked the series the chance is high that’s the same to me…

*happydance*
@Heather — yup…finished this morning and…it..was..awesome! This was classic Mercy. I couldn’t put it down and stayed up as late as I could keep my eyes open. My poor puppy kept pawing at me and whining cuz he wanted me to turn off the light and go to bed. You need to evoke mom executive privileges and stop at the bkstore anyway. You *DO* need this book!
@Everyone — LOL! Thank you all! I don’t feel like such a book hoarder anymore! I have a TBR pile of only about 80 books and my living room in my apartment is all bookshelves. At least I can honestly say that I have read and will reread all the books that I own. And as much as I’m strict about my book allowance, it gets spent! And I have a love/hate relationships w/ finding new authors. I love a new voice but hate that my OCD kicks in and now I have to get all the backlist. :p

March 31st, 2010 at 3:09 pm
@Ina “are Mercys books similar to Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series?? I just read the blurb of Mercys first book and I got that impression…”
If you mean story wise, only vaguely, IMO. The heroines are independent loners and have sort of relationships with local pack leaders. Otherwise: Mercy is a coyote shifter, a mechanic and doesn’t work magic. Her world is more like ours – ordinary people don’t know about most of the supernatural beings. Mercy’s world is more like Sookie’s than Kate’s.
If you mean in an if-you-like-Kate-you’ll-like-Mercy kind of way, I’d say yes.
March 31st, 2010 at 3:20 pm
@ Mary K,
thanks for the information, I will have to check out Ilona’s books
March 31st, 2010 at 4:07 pm
The top 5 books I’d like are as follows:
1 – More Blazing Bedtime Stories by Julie Leto. Why? I love new takes on old ideas. I absolutely loved Mercedes Lackey’s ‘The Fairy Godmother’ and the rest of he 500 kingdom stories, and although this will be rather different from what I’ve seen in the excerpt Julie Leto’s got an interesting story and a great writing style. It’s right up my alley. I am soooo ecstatic this book is still up for grabs!
2- Eternal Hunter by Cynthia Eden. Why? The story seems interesting (especially with a DA as the main character) but mainly I like her writing style. In addition to which it’s a cool idea and I’d like to know why the main character is so seperated from the world of the ‘others’.
3 – Rose of Shanhasson by Joely Sue Burkhart. Why? It’s been awhile since I’ve read a new series of fantasy books that AREN’T urban fantasy, and this series looks good enough for me to want to try it. It’s an interesting take on a fantasy world (I like the idea of ‘the Green Lands’) and I like the insight of each side thinking the other side are barbarians. Her writing style is fun, and it promises to be enjoyable.
4 – Sanctuary by Moira Rogers. Why? Generally the Alpha wolf concept isn’t my favorite idea, because it generally strikes me as being too heavy on ‘destined mates’ – a concept I’m not too fond of. However, I read the excerpt and the characters seemed interesting and the story line had more of a backdrop than simply ‘new girl + dominant wolf = undeniable attraction’. There seems to be a good plot and I like what I’ve seen of her characters so far.
5 – Hunters Need by Shiloh Walker. Why? Because after I read the except I had a burning desire to know hat the backstory was and what would happen next.
All the best!
-Liz

Has anyone on this page heard of Kelley Armstrong? Her ‘Tales of the Otherworld’ collection is supposed to come out this coming month, along with Hellfire, and a couple of other books I’ve been waiting for. Because if not I highly reccomend checking her out, as well.
March 31st, 2010 at 6:01 pm
Ah, oops. I see some people did discuss Kelley Armstrong earlier. Actually, she’s not like LHK. I can’t stand LHK’s stuff (mainly because it’s all sex and mary sue-ish and virtually no plot) but I love Kelley Armstrong. She’s amusing, has a great writing style, and while yes, most of her books do have sex, that’s not the majority of the book. It’s only there as a part of the story. For example, ‘Men of the Otherworld’ (parts of which are hlarious) doesn’t really have any sex scenes or main love interest. Her books can be read out of order though (for the most part) so depending on what you like you should base your first choice on that. I love her stuff but if I had read what’s technically the first book in the series first, I probably wouldn’t have continued with the series. I started on the third book, and I have a friend who bagan the series on the seventh book. You don’t really miss anything by starting later in the series – for most of them.
March 31st, 2010 at 6:19 pm
@Liz, looks like everyone packed it in for awhile.
It is true that you can start off out of order with the books in the Women of The Otherworld series, I did and then bought the rest in order to read them in sequence….
My favorite Kelley Armstrong stories so far are Books #8&9. I like Hope Adams in Book 8′s story and Savannah in Book #9. I am looking forward to reading “Waking The Witch” Savannah’s story when it releases in August. I am also ready to read the 3rd YA in the “Darkest Powers” trilogy when “The Reckoning” releases in April….

I, too, am really looking forward to Waking the Witch. Did you read the exceprts on the site? It looks soooo good. Also, the beginning of Reckoning is also available on the website, if you’re interested. I can’t wait until that comes out either.
As for favorite Kelley Armstron books… Damn that’s hard. I’d say ‘Men of the Otherworld’, ‘Industrial Magic’, ‘No Humans Involved’ and ‘Frostbitten’. I hadn’t expected to like Frostbitten, but I really did. Just goes to show expectations aren’t everything, I guess.
Who are your favorite characters?

1. Hunters Need by Shiloh Walker
2. The Vampiers Quest by Viva Anna

5. Goddess of the Hunt by Tessa Dare

Yeah, I read the YA series. I really enjoyed them as well. The third will be out really soon. I liked the Women of the Otherworld series a bit more though.

March 31st, 2010 at 6:53 pm
@Liz, have read the beginning of The Reckoning. My favorite characters are Paige, Savannah, Hope, Lucas, Jaime, and my most favorite is Eve Duncan. For some reason she just keeps me entertained more than the others do, except Savannah and she is getting more and more interesting as Kelley reveals her to us.

March 31st, 2010 at 6:56 pm
If you like Eve, did you read the new novella that has her in it? It came out on Subterranean.
March 31st, 2010 at 6:56 pm
@Emmad, the YA series is a little bit less favorited than the Women Of The Otherworld for me as well. I just like the “Adult” aspects of these stories better as my teen years and young adulthood are far in the past….

April 1st, 2010 at 6:59 am
oh, there are a lot fantastic covers out there and I wouldn’t have enough place for all of them *sigh*
but I would love to have a poster of that one: http://lisamantchev.com/main.php
April 1st, 2010 at 7:02 am
@ Ina,
that is really a cool one.
April 1st, 2010 at 7:12 am
@Danny: yeah isn’ it? but I like yours too!! and I’ve to check out the story *gg*
but it’s incredible: every year the covers are more gorgeous than the year before…

Two of my fave covers are Laid bare and Coming undone by Lauren Dane.
April 1st, 2010 at 9:54 am
Good morning everyone!
@Heather — *happydance* glad that you were able to get it! I promise not to bug you while you read it… but… are you done yet? lol…
@Danny — I don’t know if that says good or bad things about us as consumers that we go “ooh… shiny/pretty… must have…” But I can’t say anything too derisive as that I am definitely a cover slut. The artists anymore are fantastic. They perfectly capture the characters and themes of the books all the while looking sooo realistic. I’m glad that they’ve shied away from the models that they used to use. But it is disappointing to get (although rarely) a pretty book only to find the story sucks. That happened to me once.
@Liz/Jackie/Adel — ok you guys convinced me. I’m going to start looking for Kelley Armstrong and Ilona Andrews. Not that there was a lot of arm twisting… lol.
I love this blog b/c 1) I feel right at home w/ my book OCD and 2) you guys give out the best recommendations (and it seems like we all like the same so it’s always a win/win!)
April 1st, 2010 at 9:56 am
@Delitealex, like those 2 also. My other faves of Lauren are What Happens in Vegas and Holiday Heat. I also have a real fondness for the covers out on Marked&Entwined by Elizabeth Naughton because of the content not so much the covers…
I have others but those stand out right now. Cover art today is just that, Art and books are benefitting greatly.

April 1st, 2010 at 10:05 am
@Erin, glad to see you are now “jonesing” for some Armstrong like the rest of us and you will love Ilona Andrews hands down no doubt in my mind. I am getting antsy waiting on the new Kate Daniels to come out and it is an even longer wait for book 2 in The Edge series!!!!

Hey y’all,
I know I haven’t been by the last two days but I’ve had iffy issues with my laptops… I had to go drop off my precious macbook to get repaired cause the cord is not charging it (weep) and I figured since I had to give it in I might as well have them run a full diagnostic on it. So I’m on my alternate powerbook which is temperamental at best when it comes to maintaining a wireless connection. *sigh*
Anyhoo, howz everyone? What’s new in your lives? Reading anything good lately?
April 1st, 2010 at 10:29 am
Hello @Anna, glad to see you here no matter what the “connection”. Love my Mac computer and sure hope nothing happens to make it have to go in for repair work.
Reading last of Hold On Tight by Stephanie Tyler today and then going to start the Hell On Heels Anthology with Julie Kenner and others. The DH has off the next 3 days for Easter so tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday is “play time” away from the computer..
What are you reading right now?

April 1st, 2010 at 10:32 am
I just finished reading Triple Exposure by Colleen Thompson and am wondering whether to read Without Mercy by Lisa Jackson or Heart of the Wolf by Terry Spear.
April 1st, 2010 at 10:38 am
I’m reading Soulless by Gail Carriger. It is the first steampunk novel I’ve read. So far it is pretty good. :-D
April 1st, 2010 at 10:41 am
@Anna, personally would go with Lisa Jackson but then again the shifter book is a little more what I am into right now. Glad I do not have to choose between those 2…

Hellooooo everyone!
@Danny, Thanks for the link. That is a gorgeous cover *swoons*
@erin, I’m so with you on loving the blog for all us book OCD people because at home talking about books and my family seeing my bookshelves completely full I start getting the weird questioning looks they give me when they’re trying to figure out the extent of my sanity.
April 1st, 2010 at 3:34 pm
Here’s a few other bookcovers I’d love as posters… The cover of Dark Time by Dakota Banks is pretty cool. Haven’t read the book yet but I’m looking forward to reading it. Also the beautiful covers of Amelia Atwater-Rhodes The Den of Shadows Quartet, and The Shapeshifters the new cover where all five books are in one. All these covers are dark and beautiful.

@ Erin,
when I am in the States and walking through a bookstore a nice cover is always an eyecatcher, which brings me to pick up the book and read the blurb. You are right about the models. It’s funny when you look on todays cover and the ones that were released in the Mid 90s or so. Huge difference.

Have a good Easter weekend!
@Danny sure wish you could get some relief from your pain soon. Sounds like you are like myself and my DH with your vehicle. I bought my Ford Ranger in 1993 and kept it for 15 years and the only reason sold it was because it had no airbags and was a stick shift and the area we live in now is very hilly so driving the standard shift was becoming a chore…

Okay,
to start a new discussion, what is up next on your tbr pile? What do you plan to read on the Easter weekend?
April 3rd, 2010 at 7:20 am
Hi again and good morning :)
@Danny: I’ve a lot of books on my tbr shelf, but I have to read one particularly to write a review and I hope I get this done by the end of the weekend… but the book is not that fascinating *sigh* it’s a book by a German author – Sarah Lukas (Der Kuss des Engels = Kiss by an Angel) and at the moment I’m in no mood for an angel and God setting…
I think I will switch to the third book in the Weather Warden Series by Rachel Caine – Chill Factor… I really enjoyed the first two books and can’t wait to read this…
and what are you reading?
April 3rd, 2010 at 8:18 am
@Inc – I’m glad you are enjoying the Weather Warden series. It is one of my favorite series. I’m sad that the last book is coming out this week. I really love David and Joanne.
April 3rd, 2010 at 9:33 am
@ Ina, I started ’98 to read English books and I have never read a German again since then. So I am not up-to-date with German authors
April 3rd, 2010 at 9:37 am
@ Ina, I am reading A to Z by Marie Sexton. That is a M/M romance.
April 3rd, 2010 at 9:38 am
@ Ina & Katie,
haven’t read the Weather Wardens, will have to check out this series.
I really love this blog, because since the contest started I discovered so many new authors.
April 3rd, 2010 at 11:16 am
@Katie: yeah, the books are def keepers for me!!! oh no, the last book? :( I mean, I still have a few books to read but I will miss them too…
April 3rd, 2010 at 11:26 am
@Danny: wow, that’s quite a long time!! how does it come you never read again a German one? there are a few fantastic German books eg Michelle Raven…
I just started about 3 years ago to read in English, because I couldn’t wait longer for the sequel…
but I can understand you… the translation is seldom really good – that’s another reason why I do like the original books more…
April 3rd, 2010 at 11:40 am
@ Ina,
oh I know Michelle personally. She writes some great stories.
The translations were one of the reasons why I started to read English romances and the price policy. I read also the fantasy series Dragonlance and they make two books out of one English one. So why should I pay twice when the English version is cheaper.
Funny that the translations drove me crazy because know I am doing translations.
April 3rd, 2010 at 11:56 am
oh, that splitting one book up is horrendous – they made that with the Black Dagger books and it’s really an impudence :/ and I agree, the German prices are…oh, I don’t find words… instead of one German book you can buy 2 Englisch books *argh*
April 3rd, 2010 at 11:57 am
oh, that splitting one book up is horrendous – they made that with the Black Dagger books and it’s really an impudence :/ and I agree, the German prices are…oh, I don’t find words… instead of one German book you can buy 2 English books *argh*
April 3rd, 2010 at 11:58 am
*opps* my finger was a little bit hasty
April 3rd, 2010 at 12:03 pm
@ Ina,
yeah especially no with the Euro it got even worse with the prices. It’s really weird.
April 3rd, 2010 at 12:13 pm
my modified list :
Hunter’s Need by Shiloh Walker
No Greater Pleasure by Megan Hart
Carinian’s Seeker by TJ Michaels
Beyond the Shadows by Jess Granger
Goddess of the Hunt by Tessa Dare
April 3rd, 2010 at 12:17 pm
Happy Easter Everyone!!!
I’m currently reading Heart of the Wolf by Terry Spear…just about done with it… It’s the first book from her that I’ve read and I’ve loved it…I’m going to have to pick up the rest in the series as soon as I have enough money *sigh*
Next up, it’s a toss-up between Re-united by Sally Painter or Without Mercy by Lisa Jackson…
So what are your Easter plans?
April 3rd, 2010 at 12:30 pm
Hi Anna,
Heart of the Wolf is still in my tbr pile. My review books have first priority, so it has to wait.
Not much of Easter plans here.
April 3rd, 2010 at 12:31 pm
@ Anna,
Hunter’s need is already gone. Just want to give you a heads up
April 3rd, 2010 at 12:32 pm
@Anna: to answer your question about my Easter plans = reading, eating, inet surfing, reading, eating, sleeping *gg*
have you special plans?
April 3rd, 2010 at 1:19 pm
Again – I should be working but had to sneak in here & catch up on the comments. (grin)
I have Hunting Julian in my backpack when I take my “official” work break. Read only 7 pages so far but I think I will like the new series.
Happy Easter weekend. Tomorrow we’ll attend church and host an Easter dinner. Of course we’ll have the egg hunt in the morning for the kids. Tonight I stay up filling plastic eggs with candy. :-)
April 3rd, 2010 at 1:20 pm
Happy Saturday everyone!
Busy day for me so I’m not going to be in and out a lot…
Looking at cars on craigslist, cleaning (have a very naughty older mini beagle that has a bad habit of marking inside…argh…) and laundry. Sigh, not very peaceful day but I’m gonna get it all done :)
I’m using vinegar to try and get the dog pee smell out. Anyone know of any other pet friendly cleaner? (I find that the vinegar first and then the carpet cleaner seems to work, but I’m looking for a solution to fool his nose so he doesn’t turn around and remark) Luckily the puppy hasn’t picked up on his bad habit.
@ Danny — right now I’m reading Bitter Night by Diane Pharoah Francis. Not very far into it but very good so far
April 3rd, 2010 at 1:38 pm
Today I am working on the Easter gift bags for my kids, mostly See’s chocolate, our favorite.
Off to my sister’s tomorrow for dinner. My niece was born on Easter, so we do a double celebration, which means there will be cake!

April 4th, 2010 at 9:26 am
@ Danny and Ina — It doesn’t have to be over. I’m sure that Ann won’t mind us using her comment section to catch w/ each other :) After all, she is the one who brought us all together. Plus, after the contest, she will probably be able to join us in our “chats”. Either that or we can all meet over at Jackie’s blog, or Anna’s or someone else’s here that we can hijack :) So don’t cry yet darlings! I’m not giving up the best new source I have for great books!
April 4th, 2010 at 9:40 am

April 4th, 2010 at 10:30 am
@ Ina,
any specific genre you want recommendations?
April 4th, 2010 at 10:36 am
@Danny: currently I can’t get enough of paranormal romances and I realized how much I missed young adult stories…otherwise I’ve no idea…
April 4th, 2010 at 10:51 am
@ Ina,
okay here some recommendations:
Rita Herron’s Demonborn series
Pamela Palmer’s Feral Warrior series
Lucy Monroe’s Moon awakening
Shayla Black’s Doomsday Brethren series
Shannon K. Butcher’s Romantic suspense books
Kathryn Smith’s Nightmare chronicles
Erin McCarthy’s Las Vegas Vampires
If you like Medievals than you have to try Karin Tabke’s books
Do you read ebooks?
If so I can highly recommend Stephani Hecht’s Arch angel series
April 4th, 2010 at 11:09 am
@Danny: thanks for your list *hugs*
some authors I already know like Shayla Black and Shannon K. Butcher (oh, I LOVE her books!)
and I will check out the others!!! especially Lucy Monroe sounds interesting.
and yes, I read ebooks… sometimes… during a course at the university ;)
April 4th, 2010 at 11:14 am
@ Ina,
Lucy Monroe’s paranormal is a historical werewolf series. Her Romantic supense books are also great.
Have you tried Karen Kelley’s books, she has a wicked sense of humor.
Do you want more ebook recommendations?
April 4th, 2010 at 11:28 am
@Danny: I’ve never heard of Karen Kelley *makingnotes*
and yes, I would like ebook recommendations – there can never be enough books on my wishlist :)
I just bought Colters Woman by Maya Banks – I heard a lot of good things about it and will try it now for myself…
April 4th, 2010 at 11:31 am
@all: because we are speaking of ebooks – have you all subscribed to the All Romance Ebooks newsletter? if not you should! every day they are giving away a free ebook – the first of a series :)
April 4th, 2010 at 11:33 am
@ Ina — my recommendations are:
*Michelle Sagara’s Cast Series (more fantasy but since you said that you like the YA, these I would recommend for anyone of any age)
*Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan Series
*Rachel Caine’s Weather Warden Series (She also has a spin off series OutCast Season and a YA series Morganville Vampires which I haven’t read yet)
*Lilith Saintcrow’s Dante Valentine Series, Jill Kismet Series and she also has started a YA series Strange Angels
*Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series
*Diana Rowland’s Mark of the demon and Blood of the Demon
*Elaine Wilk’s Lupi Series
*Vicki Pettersson’s signs of the Zodiac series
*C.E. Murphy’s Walker papers series, Inheritance Cycle and Negotiator’s Trilogy
* Dean Koontz’s Odd Thomas Series and Frankenstein Series
Ummm… that’s all off the top of my head (I’m not at home and can’t browse my library)
April 4th, 2010 at 11:35 am
I’d been wanting to try cheryl brooks series now I get to read the first one free.
April 4th, 2010 at 11:37 am
That is a lot of book recommendations in previous comments. Cool! Must go and check those out
April 4th, 2010 at 11:37 am
@Delitealex,
the series is really good. Unusual but good
April 4th, 2010 at 11:38 am
oh and if you’re looking for simply sexy paranormal there’s the Monere: Children of the Moon and Demon Princess Series by Sunny. These are pretty hot (but still good story/concept around the blazin hot scenes; although if you’re not open minded about some stuff, this might not be for everyone)
April 4th, 2010 at 11:46 am
@Erin: thanks a lot for your tips…most of the authors are already on my auto-buy list like Rachel Caine, KMM, Lilith Saintcrow, but I will check out the other authors you mentioned!!
Diana Rowlands books sound very fascinating and I think I will add them to my order…
April 4th, 2010 at 11:51 am
@ Ina,
Maya Banks’ books are great. You can’t do anything wrong with her books.
Here are some ebook recommendations:
Zena Wynn – True mate series
Anything from Jaci Burton
Stormy Glenn, has some great menage stories
Cyn Tregart, The Marauders
Bianca D’Arcs books
MacKenzie McKade books
Tymber Dalton, Triple Trouble books (Menage)
Lauren Danes werewolves
Jet Mykles books
Just to name a few
April 4th, 2010 at 11:54 am
lol… I’m on a roll people… prepare…
And if you want Chic lit/romantic comedy:
*Jennifer Crusie — anything by her will make you laugh out loud (and her characters and all young and beautiful; they’re angsty and middle aged) especially Fast Women, Crazy for You, Faking it and Welcome to Temptation
*Lani Diane Rich (Now publishing under Lucy March) – A Little Ray of Sunshine, (and 4 more)
*Megan Crane — Names My sisters’s Call Me and Frenemies
*Susan Elizabeth Phillips (although if you read a lot of her at once, like I did, they sorta blend into each other, but they are still a nice feel good read) mostly centered around a football team (I was kinda put off at first cuz not into football, but once I tried them, I liked em)
Elizabeth Lowell — if you want dark, angsty, complicated any of her contemporary and medival series (the main guy is angry at world/hates people, meets girl, have angry sex, falls in love, world is good as long as has girl)
*Jeffrey Deaver — great forensic scientist is a paraplegic, mystery series (kinda creepy and a little gory so beware)
*Meg Gardiner — good mystery series Evan Delaney series
*Lisa Gardner — great dark mysteries again w/ the scary and sometimes gory deets.
whew… ok… that’s it I promise… be careful what you ask for :)
April 4th, 2010 at 12:06 pm
@ Erin,
as you mention Chicklit, have you tried Kelley St. John and Diana Holquist?
April 4th, 2010 at 12:11 pm
@ Ina,
have you read Demonfire by Kate Douglas?
April 4th, 2010 at 12:11 pm
@ Danny — no I haven’t. I’m actually looking for new chicklit authors. I love my paranormal stuff, but that’s all I’ve been reding lately. Plus, I book exchange w/ an older gal at work who doesn’t like the paranormal stuff, so I’m out of authors to share w/ her. I will check them out! thanks!
April 4th, 2010 at 12:17 pm
Do you read also Sportsromances? Do you know Kate Angell?
April 4th, 2010 at 12:19 pm
I don’t go out of my way to avoid them, but if the story isn’t completely centered on it (you have to know the sport to figure out what’s going on )
Never Read Kate Angell, will check her out.
April 4th, 2010 at 12:33 pm
Happy Easter everyone. For some great romantic suspense stories I recommend Shannon McKenna and Tara Janzen.
wish list:
The Stranger’s Secrets by Beth Williamson

I already ordered the first one Beyond Rain, but after over a month I still haven’t got it. I am worried that I will get it.
April 4th, 2010 at 2:58 pm
@ Ina,
yeah the SEP books are great. Have you tried Deidre Martin’s Hockey books?
I also have two books by Jill Shalvis on my tbb list. Double play and Slow Heat are dealing with Baseball, too.
April 4th, 2010 at 3:02 pm
@Danny: thanks – your review sounds great and Demonfire is now on top of my wishlist :)
sorry to hear about your order… where have you bought it? it’s unusual that it takes that long :/
April 4th, 2010 at 3:13 pm
@ I bought it at BOL, because I no longer order at Amazon, too many troubles with them. Can you believe that I ordered a book 3 months before release and got it 6 months after release.
April 4th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
@Danny: beside SEP I haven’t read many sportsromances… only Carly Phillips Hot Zone series…
wow, that’s a long time… and no, I can’t believe they made a thing like that :/ Amazon is a big business concern and it’s really sad that they no longer put value to customer friendliness…
but I can understand the delay with bol – I’ve made the experience that they need always such a long time…
April 4th, 2010 at 3:33 pm
@ Ina, customer friendliness is definitely a foreign word for Amazon. They know they have a monopol and they think they can do anything.
With BOL it’s the first time that I have any problems, so far they were always under 3 weeks
April 4th, 2010 at 3:39 pm
@Danny: you could complain… maybe you will get a discount?
Danny, I’m off for the night – I can’t keep my eyes open any longer ;) good night and see you tomorrow!
April 4th, 2010 at 4:14 pm
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I really like my “book partner” at work. It’s fun to exchange and talk about the books so I was sad that we ran out of authors. I will definitely check these out!
I just finished Bitter Night yesterday and it was awesome! Can’t wait for the next which doesn’t sound like it will be any sooner than March 2011 :(
Finished Mind Games this afternoon. It was also good and I’m glad to see that a sequel will be out later this year.

2nd Happy Actual Easter day even for those it is now the day after. Today was go to the ER with the DH and get some pain and nausea meds earlier. Turns out he is passing a Kidney Stone since about last Thursday evening he has been in pain and yesterday and today it started hurting so bad he was throwing up from it!!!
All done with the drama and I missed all the fun with all the good book recommendations .

Looks like my Louisa Edwards pick is still good though!!!
April 4th, 2010 at 5:21 pm
@Delitalex, start with the Rogue Mage books by Faith. Right now there are only 3 in the series but if enough fans get behind it and she gets some more printing Faith is hoping to write more stories for Thorn!!
Bloodring, Seraphs and Host.
If you are more into Shifters start with Jane Yellowrock instead, the 2 books out are both wonderful fun and the 3rd Mercy Blade is in the works for Jan 2011 release.
Jane Yellowrock and Blood Cross out now.
She is also AKA Gwen Hunter with different kind of written works…
She is an email friend and all round fun author to read and follow on her site.

@ Jackie I’ll probably check out the Jane Yellowrock books first. Thanks for the info on the Gwen Hunter books too they sound interesting.
April 4th, 2010 at 8:22 pm
@delitalex, good choice Faith has created an interesting character in Jane and you will enjoy the books. I fell in love with her work when read the Rogue Mage series and have high hopes that she gets to write more of them someday!

Um, thanks everyone for the congrats!!!! I am so so so excited to have won…:D This is going to be a great treat since my first “official” foray into the romance world was with Robin Owens’ Heartmate—now I’ve moved onto different stuff, but you have to love the futuristic sci-fi.

Congrats, Jane, Patty and Stella!
Jackie, I feel for your DH, having had a kidney stone, and it’s worse for the guys to get rid of them.
I’ve been recently looking at Faith Hunter, will move them up the wishlist.

@ Erin,
it’s always hard when you have to wait on a sequel. That’s an advantage of ebooks, you don’t have to wait so long till the next book is released

@ Danny
Sorry to hear that. A second opinion is probably a good idea.
@ Miranda
Since my boyfriend decided he wanted to cook dinner for Sunday and he doesn’t really cook we wound up doing a bbq instead of traditional holiday dinner. But the weather was really nice and everyone had a good time.

Congrats to all the new winners! I can’t believe we are almost at the end of the contest!! =(
April 5th, 2010 at 12:33 pm
@ Jackie,
do you have a heating pad, that might help with the pain.
April 5th, 2010 at 12:42 pm
@Danny, hello again and wish a heating pad would help. Every time the pain gets bad the last couple days his temp spikes and makes him too nauseated for any more heat. I did ask him last night and yesterday morning and was told emphatically no so hopefully the stone passes today and tonight he gets to sleep without pain and be back to normal (sort of) tomorrow. Thanks for asking, in this instance the patient is non-cooperative and insists on just taking the pain and nausea meds and to be left alone!!!

@ Jackie,
there are no worse patients than men. I just hope he gets well soon. Remind him that he should drink more water /tea than usual, especially when he temperatures spikes.
April 5th, 2010 at 12:50 pm
@Danny, do not know about that when I am sick just want to crawl into a hole and die so kind of the same kind of patient as my DH… The water has been poured down his poor throat since Friday and think he is now “sloshing when he walks”, tea has been a no no for now because all we have is Instant in the house and he likes brewed. I have Apple and Cranberry Juice in the fridge and have threatened bodily harm if he drinks the Dr. Pepper instead. Too much soda water means dehydration and it is hard on the kidneys and what got the rascal in this predicament this time I think…
He is catching some much needed zzzz’s right now and hope when he wakes up and eats lunch late he will feel a little better!!

Hi there :D yeah, I know I’m a little bit late today, but I had a lot of work to do -.-
@Jackie B: oh, that doesn’t sound good :( hope your DH will get better soon!!!
April 5th, 2010 at 1:00 pm
@ Jackie,
didn’t know that about the soda otherwise I would have recommended some 7up because that helps when you are feeling nauseated. How about some soup?
Hope he feels better soon
April 5th, 2010 at 1:15 pm
Hi @Ina, glad to see you today and hope he gets better soon also… No fun to pass a kidney stone.
@Danny, yes the bad thing about drinking soda water in excess is the fact that even though you feel like it quenches your thirst it actually is worse than drinking tea or coffee all the time because it pretty much goes straight through and works the kidneys where as water provides hydration and absorbs in the system more so than has to be voided. Anyway, too much and you can end up with stones faster!
Also does not help his body makes too much calcium and it causes buildup…
