Please visit all these generous authors! Now admire their pretty covers.
All books in the lottery are signed. Here’s how this works. There will be “hot” times to comment, but you must comment often because you never know when you might get lucky. This contest runs until I have announced ALL the winners, at least one a day. No spamming, no random links. Your comment must contain content and pertain to the books or something a prior commenter has already said. Once I announce a winner, I will “reset” the contest, and we’ll begin again for the books left in the lottery.
Everyone understand how we play? I’ll start us off with a question, but feel free to let the conversation evolve. However, if you’re coming in later, and you can’t think of anything to say on your first comment, you can always answer this for your comment. (Do not answer it repeatedly; that will not win you anything.)
Which five (5) of these books are you most excited to read and why? Basically you make a wish-list for me, and I’ll regularly announce winners. So that’s it. There are some lovely, lovely books up for grabs, and a HUGE number of winners to be found.
By release day, April 6th, I will have given away ALL of these books. That just leaves one final giveaway: a $50 gift certificate to the bookstore of your choice. Anyone who has commented to date will be entered in that; the reset function doesn’t count for the grand prize, and each comment counts as one entry. The no spamming rule still applies, though. And go for it!
First winner: Robin K & Wicked Enchantment!
2nd winner: Michelle (of See Michelle Read) & Proof by Seduction
3rd winner: MamaKitty & Take Me
4th winner: Ayla_F & Laid Bare
5th winner: Raelena & Gentlemen Prefer Succubi
6th winner: Mariska & Wicked Game / Bad to the Bone
7th winner: DonnaS & Mind Games
8th winner: KJ & Scoundrel’s Kiss
9th winner: Erin & Crux
10th winner: Jodie West / JoJo & His Darkest Hunger
11th winner: Martha E & The Stranger’s Secrets
12th winner: Sandy G & Magic & Madness
13th winner: Chelsea B & ARC of I’ll Be Slaying You
14th winner: Christie I & Lead Me On
All winners email me their name & mailing info. You have one week to claim your prize, and then I re-draw.
(I did it again because the load time on the other post was getting long. So it’s locked now, and we’re continuing here. And this one is being locked too!)
Congratulations Mariska and my 5 are still on the board, Yay!!!! :
1. Erica Hayes/ “Shadowglass” so can read it back to back after book 1 Shadowfae without having more than a few months in between reading the first one…
2. Louisa Edwards / “On The Steamy Side” for one thing do not have book 1 in this series and have them both on my wish list and mainly Dig the title of the book a lot….
3. Elizabeth Naughton/ “Marked” ARC would love to win this one because it is 50 days to release date and really want to read the story….
4.Juliana Stone/ “His Darkest Hunger” want the book because it is the first one in the new series and am in love with the characters Jaxon and Libby …
5.Denise A Agnew/ “Primordial” looked it up and even though the book came out in 2004 it is set in the rainforest in the (dark and dangerous jungle) and would love to try out an author new to me….
THX Ann for redoing the post, it was taking forever to load indeed!!!
🙂 🙂 :smile:Jackie B Central Texas
Congratulations Mariska!
Congrats Mariska.
My five are:
I’ll Be Slaying You by Cynthia Eden
Mind Games by Carolyn Crane
His Darkest Hunger by Juliana Stone
Marked by Elisabeth Naughton
Hunter’s Need by Shiloh Walker
I’m really looking forward to reading :
*Crux – b/c I adore Bree/Donna’s work…they just create brilliant paranormal plots…their characters are just incredibly easy to love and the storyline is so absorbing.
*Hunter’s Need – I’m totally addicted to Shiloh’s work…I’ve been buying & reading up all of her backlist titles..her stand alone titles are simply exquisite. The sexual tension and the heat in the books are smokin’ hot!
*Primordial – I always enjoy reading Denise’s work and I’m slowly trying to work my way through her backlist.
*I’ll Be Slaying You – I just recently started reading Cynthia’s work…I’m a devoted fan now that’s all I have to say. I read Immortal Danger & Eternal Hunter and am totally captivated by her writing.
*Doing It The Hard Way – I’ve never read TJ’s work…thanks for introducing me this new author…I just read the blurb for this storyline and am thrilled to find another great paranormal romance author to read.
Thanks for the great giveaway to celebrate your upcoming release.
Hello on this rainy (in NJ) Saturday! The five books that I’d be most excited to read are:
Magic and Madness by Amy Gregg
Twist by Colby Hodge
Rose of Shanhasson by Joely Sue Burkhart
Mistress by Mistake by Maggie Robinson
The Stranger’s Secrets by Beth Williamson
I haven’t read anything by these authors, and I’m interested in adding more authors to my “Must Read” list.
Oooo, shiny clean comment thread!
Congrats Mariska!
Here’s my new Top 5:
1. Mistress by Mistake, Maggie Robinson
2. Crux, Moira Rogers.
3. Mind Games, Carolyn Crane
4. On the Steamy Side, Louisa Edwards
5. Hunter’s Need, Shiloh Walker (I suppose I’d better start reading this series from the beginning, but I’ve heard so many raves about this book!)
Thanks, Ann! :ohh:
Cupk8 haha, I’m glad about an easier to manage comment threat too :X Feel like I shouldn’t, for some reason.
Congrats to Mariska!
My five choices are still in. I am not sure if the order makes a difference but just in case I am keeping the same five but shifting order:
#1 The Stranger’s Secrets by Beth Williamson
#2 Goddess of the Hunt by Tessa Dare
#3 Marked by Elisabeth Naughton
#4 Shadowglass by Erica Hayes
#5 Mistress by Mistake by Maggie Robinson
On the review discussion –
If I have a book that is in my review queue I try not to read other reviews. Once I have reviewed it I do like to see what others said too. If it is a book I am looking at purchasing I do check reviews.
Gonna make up a new list 🙂
Victoria Dahl
Lead Me On: Because the more reviews I come across the more I wanna try her
Jess Granger
Beyond the Shadows: Because the concept sounds so cool
Carolyn Crane
Mind Games : Because she is so nice
Moira Rogers : Someone just told me today to read it
Crux
Diana Pharoah Francis
Bitter Night Love the cover
the same with me – it’s easier to write a review when I don’t know what others think about it…
Same here. I’ve read far too many reviews that sound similar–I don’t want mine like that.
Ooo as for reviews… actually I try not to read them unless I have no opinion about a book and am deciding to buy or not. Although, I also try to avoid them because I hate spoilers, and some reviews have them.
I know, I’m a weirdo 😛
I like reading reviews. It would never sway me 100% on buying (or not) a book. But some books give the impression that they’re in one genre when in fact they’re in another genre. So I like to know what I’m getting in to before I buy.
Congrats Mariska!
My 5 choices again 🙂
1. I’ll be Slaying You by Cynthia Eden
2. Crux by Moira Rogers
3. Lead Me on by Victoria Dahl

wow that loads better with only 38 comments. Opps will have to repost my 5 too.
Moira Rogers – Crux and Sanctuary
Carolyn Crane – Mind Games
Beth Williamson – The Stranger’s Secrets
Shiloh Walker – Hunter’s Need
Emma, Beth’s book is great! As a disabled person, I’m always trying to read books with disabled characters. The heroine in this book is exactly the kind I like to see. She’s outspoken and doesn’t let her disability define her.
Congrats to all the winners thus far! And since one of the books I wanted has been claimed here’s an updated list (also reposting it since I kinda forgot what I wanted too).
Wow, those are a great bunch of books! For me, I’d love…..
-Jess Granger/Beyond the Shadows..I read the first book in this series and enjoyed it. I’d like to see more.
-Colby Hodge/Twist..I’ve read other books by Colby and like her writing style. The dystopian feel to the storyline is also intriguing to me.
-Carolyn Crane/Mind Games..I’ve heard great reviews about this and her personality on her blog makes me think this book would be something I’d like.
-Shiloh Walker/Hunter’s Need..I enjoy paranormal stories and enjoy Shiloh’s writing style so that makes this one look like a winner to me.
-Cynthia Eden/ARC of I’ll be Slaying You..I enjoy her writing style and I read and enjoyed the first in the series so I’d like to continue the series.
Hurray, nice and clean(er). Here’re my five:
Victoria Dahl – Lead Me On
Tessa Dare – Goddess of the Hunt
Joely Sue Burkhart – Rose of Shanhasson
Shiloh Walker – Hunter’s Need
Moira Rogers – Sanctuary
Thanks for the chance to win!
I was getting tired of scrolling through 700+ comments, too. Much better! 😀
Haha me too!
I kept losing track of where I left off on the first post.
Congratulations to Raelena and Mariska.
And my new list…
Elisabeth Naughton’s Marked – love classical mythology. Love – know way too much about it. Like, a scary amount. So, a book based on it? Must be win.
Louisa Edwards – On the Steamy Side – food! Sex! Relationships! Um, that’s pretty much self explanatory for me, but I love talking food, reading about food, etc, and especially romance.
Jess Granger – Beyond the Shadows – I heard so many good things about her first book in the series (pretty sure I’ve got the right one) – would love to try it out!
Victoria Dahl – Lead Me On – I’ve got the others in the series and somehow don’t have this one yet, so my collection must be complete!
Juliana Stone – His Darkest Hunger – she’s a new to me author, and I’d like to try her books. It’s important to expand horizons right? 😉
congrats winners!
need to update my top 5 list
Crux
sanctuary
mind games
shadowglass
bitter nights
My list again.
Eden – I’ll Be Slaying You Arc
Naughton – Marked Arc
Stone – His Darkest Hunger
Vivia Anna – Vampire Quest
Rogers – Crux
Excited to read Naughton’s new series in a different genre as I enjoyed the Stolen series a lot.
Wow been gone to the movies and came back to already 37 comments! Good night and good luck see all tomorrow..

This contest is really popular!
What’d you see? I just saw Alice in Wonderland on Thursday. Then I got a cool Mad Hatter poster that’s hanging on my closet door. 😛
Did you like it?
Yeah I did. I’ve always been a HUGE alice in wonderland fan, so it was nice seeing it on the big screen, especially with Johnny Depp, my favorite actor. I felt it could’ve been better, though. Some things didn’t seem to go with the flow of the movie, like the dance Johnny and Alice did…what was up with that?? lol
*argh* I can’t wait to see it!! I saw the movie trailer and it’s gorgeous!! I hope I have time next week 🙂
I am really looking forward to getting to see it. Just hoping I can see it in the theatre.
Hey Kelsey went to bed last night before seeing your question. My DH and I went to see Matt Damon’s new release “Green Zone”, should have went to see Johnny in “Alice”!!!!!
jackie b central texas
I take it Green Zone wasn’t very good?
Green Zone was not exactly what I was expecting simply because did not watch any trailers other than 1 that came on Television last week.
I love Matt Damon in action adventure and that is what the movie was being represented as and instead it is about the war with Iraq and certain parts of it were very well done and thought provoking but it just was not my exact cup of tea… Then ending of course left more questions than it answered for me.
jackie b central texas
Dang…and I had high hopes for Green Zone. I’m a total action/adventure movies junkie and for the last while there haven’t been any good ones that have come out 👿
Grats to the new winners!!
My 5 are now:
1. Hunters Need by Shiloh Walker
2. Magin & Madness by Amy Gregg
3. Lead Me On by Victoria Dahl
4. Marked by Elisabeth Naughton
5. Goddess of the Hunt by Tessa Dare
Colby Hodge’s Twist
Moira Rogers’ Crux
Moira Rogers’ Sanctuary
Tessa Dare’s Goddess of the Hunt: no real reason, the title caught me.
Elisabeth Naughton’s ARC of Marked: Also has no reason.
Good morning everyone, hope you all have a wonderful Sunday. Any special plans for today?
Good morning, Danny! I don’t have plans today. I’m hoping to have a lazy reading day 🙂
no special plans here too *gg* although there is an essay waiting to be written… maybe later 😉
LOL. Ina I have to write a couple of reviews.
I know me – I need more time pressure to work appropriate 🙄 and now I have no stress…
I feel like an overachiever. LOL! I’ve already done my Dad’s taxes this morning and started the laundry. Of course, I was sick all week and haven’t done a thing before this weekend.
that’s quite a bit of stuff you’ve already done…I’m still in bed and imitating a sloth 😆
Nothing special…just going to laze around today…Samhain is having a huge readers appreciation party & the Sammie awards are today as well so I’ll be hanging out over there.
I tried to keep up with the Samhain celebration the first day or two, but started to feel overwhelmed by how fast the comments were flying so I gave up. I was really hoping to win something, but really felt like I wasn’t keeping up well enough.
I’ve been trying diligently but so far my luck has kinda sucked…I won an ebook on day 1 but since then nada..zip…nothing… I’m hoping & praying that maybe I’ll score the Kindle *hey wishful thinking is still good*
Little Guy goes to his dad’s today, so there will be much cleaning and consuming of chocolate. : )
Jackie save some chocolate for the rest of us!!! 😉
Can you come clean my house too!!!
jackie b central texas
I’m covetous. The chocolate is mine. ::evil laugh::
Unless I want to gain 20 pounds, I probably should, though. I have six boxes of Girl Scout cookies, chocolate covered marshmallows, chocolate covered raisins, assorted candy bars, and did I mention six boxes of Girl Scout cookies? LOL
@Jackie U, those Girl Scouts are evil 😈 LOL I can’t go out without coming home with more cookies. It’s also Cadbury Egg(My Favorite)season. My diet is not going so well 😆
Good morning everyone and Good Luck today!
Good Morning all, had some excitement with the wild life this morning so am late to the party!!! 2 deer and a Turkey decided to come over to the neighbors and eat earlier this morning so am getting the pictures and video sorted out in my computer !!! I love living in the woods, hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday!
jackie b central texas
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
What a good way to start the day!!!
Oh wow…that’s really cool! The only deer I’ve ever seen was at the zoo
We live on the back side of a State Park in a forested area and since we have corn out at our house and the neighbors we see deer quite frequently in both our front yards! Wish could share the pics here!!!
jackie b central texas
I live in Wisconsin and we have deer and turkey everywhere. They are actually kind of menace since there are so many of both.
How cool. What a neat thing to see in the morning.
You should put them up on your blog or facebook if you have it…
Pics are up on blog and will post on Facebook later with some video so can share with the rest of the Animal lovers!
Jackie B Central Texas
:ohh: :ohh: :ohh: :ohh: :ohh: 😈
It must be a good year for deer because I too have seen alot of them. I live in an apartment complex and can look out my window and see them running in the distance. So they’re getting much braver coming so close to the city.
Hey Joder, we live off a major Highway but back in a heavily wooded area behind a very deer and other wildlife infested State Park and have seen Skunks, Possums, Racoons and all kinds of snakes and birds and squirrels since moving to our home in 2001! The deer are coming out because of being fed and we also have natural springs running through the woods so plenty of water to drink and lots of fresh new grass coming up to eat as well. The major city from us is Austin TX about 50 miles east and they have suburban neighborhoods with deer running everywhere!!!
jackie b central texas
Jackie, I just checked out your blog. Your dog and cat are soo cute. My son has been begging for a Chihuahua for several years. They’re awful cute.
Thanks very much Christie, I think my little pets are beauties but hey they are mine!!!
Chihuahuas are very cute and loveable but word of warning they “bond” with one person heavily and generally not the “owner’ but the “caregiver”. I just happen to be both….
 Jackie B Central Texas
Awe! My son would love that. My SIL has two and treats them like babies. It’s so cute 😀
Okay, lets update the list:
– Victoria Dahl LEAD ME ON
– Megan Hart NO GREATER PLEASURE
– Moira Rogers CRUX
– Moira Rogers SANCTUARY
– HelenKay Dimon LEAVE ME BREATHLESS
I had a goal of reading four books this weekend. *sigh* I’m not going to make it. I’ll be lucky to finish the second book. Why do other people need my help for stuff? Why? Why do I agree to help out? /end whine
Yay…I only needed to update one!
Let’s see, besides Hellfire, my wishlist of books I don’t have would be:
1. Mindgames (Carolyn Crane) – b/c I love CC’s blog and the premise of the book sounds great.
2. Shadow Glass (Erica Hayes) – I’ve got the first book and I’d love to read them back-to-back.
3. On the Steamy Side (Louisa Edwards) b/c I love a good contemporary!
4. Mistress by Mistake (Maggie Robinson) – I saw the blurb and thought it sounded great (and the cover is gorgeous!)
5. Hunter’s Need (Shiloh Walker) – I’m reading Fragile now and enjoying it; would love to try another of her series.
Thanks!!!
So far my list is still OK
Good morning people!
Gah! i hate this whole daylight saving time change…i already don’t get much sleep :(.
So have anyone bought any new books lately?
😀
Gah, yes. I had to get Sugar Daddy (Lisa Kleypas) after reading Smooth Talking Stranger. Now I’m broke and I HAVE to get Blue-Eyed Devil. It’s a definite HAVE TO, not just want.
I picked up Rob Thurman’s new book Roadkill. It is the 5th in a series, but new to me. It looks like a good book tho.
That’s a horrible place to start the series, unfortunately. LOVE those books though! Straight UF, very gritty, dark, and makes you cuddle your babies closer. Robin is my favorite–who doesn’t love a horny puck?–but the boys Leandros are beyond entertaining.
Guess I may have to get the first book, eh?
I bought a couple of books over the last week and a half…
*Through the Veil by Shiloh Walker
*Heart of the Wolf by Terry Spear
*Tie Me Down by Tracy Wolff
*Chains by Shiloh Walker
*Hotter After Midnight by Cynthia Eden
*Hunting the Hunter by Shiloh Walker
*Exclusive by Jaci Burton, Eden Bradley & Lisa Renee Jones
*Wicked Burn by Beth Kery
*Fragile by Shiloh Walker
*Waking Nightmare by Kylie Brant
*Immortal Danger by Cynthia Eden
*Dark & Deadly by Jeanne Adams
*Big Bad Wolf by Christine Warren
I bought a slew but have only received 2 in the mail yesterday. “Dead Matter” the 3rdSimon Canderous by Anton Strout and “My Zombie Valentine” Anthology. Also got a PBS Swap MMPB copy of “Heart Of The Wolf” by Terry Spear” to start my collection of her series…
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
Jackie B Central Texas
@ Jackie U: Blue eyed Devil, never heard of it. What’s that about?
@Katie: I just recently bought the Cal and Niko series but haven’t started it…How do you like it? I heard mixed reviews for it but decided to go ahead and buy the series haha. I heard it was kinda like Supernatural the show?
@Anna: Whoa! that’s a lot of books!! you must have a lot of books in your TBR pile huh?
@Jackie B: Is Anton Strout’s series any good? I was thinking about starting that series.
Well for me as mention earlier to to Katie I just bought the whole Cal series by Rob Thurman, Hourglass by Claudia Gray and I bought Spiral Hunt and Wild Hunt by Magaret Ronald. Haven’t started on any yet though. I’m still trying to finish the book i just started ‘Wages of Sins’ by Jeanna Maclaine.
What are all you currently reading?
I love hearing about what you all bought 🙂 hehe
@ vanp – It’s the second book in a series I’m in love with. I just finished Sugar Daddy, the first book, and it was epic in every way. It followed the heroine from the age of 14 when she fell in love with a neighbor, through the hardships of youth (including him abandoning her), into the present day. The second book, Blue-Eyed Devil, follows the man who abandoned her. ::happy sigh:: It’s single mom crack, seriously. In the first and third books, the women have kids who aren’t really theirs, and the men always step up and help out.
I bought a couple from Julie Kenner’s Demon Hunting Soccer Mom series from the bargain shelf and Books A Million
Also bought
Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie Kenner
Twice As Hot by Gena Showalter
Dream Warrior by Sherrilyn Kenyon
i still have Twice as Hot in my TBR pile. Have you read Julie Kenner’s blood lily series?
🙂 Van to answer you a little late, yes Anton Strout is a good solid writer and the Simon Canderous series so far in books 1&2 were good reads. I have to take time to read book 3 soon so the others are still fresh in my mind….
This series about the Department of Extraordinary Affairs is different than others and stays interesting from book to book….
jackie b central texas ❗
Van, no I haven’t. Kenner is a new author for me.
That was supposed to be Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James not Julie Kenner…..ooops
Julie James is a goddess. Seriously. I liked her hero in Practice Makes Perfect the best, but the one in Sexiest is pretty damn good. He’s egotistical, funny, and truly doesn’t get why the heroine isn’t fallen all over herself to have him.
@Jacke U, Good to know. I’ve heard Julie James if awesome. I snatched The Sexiest Man Alive up for my kindle while it’s on sale. I love the cover for Practice Makes Perfect.
Jackie, Sexiest Man is still my favorite of her heros after reading all 3 books (all are great). She made him likeable even with that ego, and it was fun seeing him clueless what to do with her.
@Katie – The Cal series is great but you should totally start with the first in the series.
@vanp – Anton Stout’s series is definitely worth reading. I thought the first book was a little slow getting into it, but theres a lot of great info in the beginning that helps make the second half and the second book fly by. I need to pick up the 3rd soon.
I live right in downtown so there aren’t places for deer or other wildlife…well except for squirrels 😆
:lol:Downtown is no place for wild animals anyway too many vehicles. Although in Colorado the elk are in downtown in Estes Park where my DH and I went on vacation years back. The Continental Divide Mountain Pass is right there so the Elk are very abundant…. Chipmunks and Mountain Goats too!!!

It is so nice not worrying about Daylight savings. Yay!!!! LOL
😥 I wish we did not have to here in Texas either!!!! Will be a zombie all week…
Jackie B Central Texas
i bet it would be nice ti not worry about daylight savings! i don’t mind gainning the hour, but i hate loosing the hour!!!
So lucky! Losing an our messes up everypne’s schedules and as a college student it sucks even more since I’m already sleep deprived!
where do you live Cherryreads? soo luckky! i forgot to turn my clock forward today too haha
Re-stating my most anticipated books out of the above 😀 :
Cynthia Eden’s I’ll Be Slaying You – Just bought Eternal Hunter and I’m enthralled. Can I say “more”? *g*
Shadowglass by Erica Hayes – Gritty, dark, magical, seductive – I want to delve into the world created by the words.
Carolyn Crane’s Mind Games – I’ve heard a ton of things – all good – about this book.
Moira Rogers’s Crux – Great things have been said.
Juliana Stone’s His Darkest Hunger – A new to me author too and from what I’ve read of the blurb, sounds promising!
Eternal Hunter was soooo good!
Oh i agree!!!! I can’t wait for more of that series!!!!
the only time the clock forward or backwards gets me is when I have to remember when others change theirs and how it relates to our time.
I would so rather go back than forward. I am going to be messed up for weeks.
Me too! I love falling back but this spring forward crap sucks. Getting the kids to bed tonight is going to be a nightmare 👿
I definitely agree! As a college student I’m already losing enough sleep and this just means I’ll lose even more. It seems so pointless and a waste of time. *sigh* 😥
I know it has been asked but I don’t see it on this page.
What’s everyone reading?
I’m still reading Red-Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells. It’s a good read. I love Sabina even if she has a bad attitude. I also just started Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder. Kinda has a Hunger Game feel. I’m liking it.
I just finished Lora Leigh’s Black Jack. I love all her books!
How’s Red-Headed Stepchild coming along? I’ve been debating whether to read it or not.
@Jeanette, I like it. Took me a bit to figure out who was who and what was what. Now that I’ve got the “lingo” down I’m all good. I can’t think of anything I’ve read with a mage before so it’s a little different for me.
I have Jaye Wells in the TBR, have to dig it out of the pile. I was in the mood for an historical yesterday and read Bettina Krahn’s Harlequin Blaze, Make Me Yours, was very good. Now I’m just starting Immortal Danger by Cynthia Eden.
My 5 are now:
Sanctuary
His Darkest Hunger
Eternal hunter
Beyond the Shadows
Primordial
I am reading Black Sheep and the Princess by Donna Kauffman…

Question for discussion:
Can you remember when you first started reading for fun seriously? I don’t remember an age as such but do recall that my primary school teacher was impressed at my reading skills. Also remember reading novels from about 8 yrs old.
I remember it was in grade school but not really when. I know I started with Nancy Drew and the Sweet Valley High, then moved on to Agatha Christie. And was reading Stephen King and Dean Koontz and VC Andrews by high school.
I don’t actually recall not reading. I always had books and read my heart out.
I was about six/seven years old and I was reading Hans Christian Andersen & Grimms Brothers stories. I was also really into Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew…I also snuck into my Mum’s stash of Barbara Cartland novels…that’s what got me hooked on to reading romances.
oh my gosh- haha I found Barbara Cartland books in the “library” of one of my teachers in high school. Hilarious, and I was hooked on them. They were my “break books” between classics when those drained me.
If anyone is interested, I was lucky enough to score an ARC of Conquering India by Melissa Schroeder and I just posted my pseudo review on my blog http://s7anna.blogspot.com/2010/03/conquering-india-by-melissa-schroeder.html
The book is coming out tomorrow at Bookstrand.
Congratulations to Donna S!
I think this list is still ok…
I’m really interested to see how Marked compares to the Dark-Hunters. I expect there to be some major differences but they both have hot warriors whose origins are in Greek mythology.
I’ve read Lead Me On, but none of the others in the series, so I can’t say how it compares, but I really enjoyed it. Jane makes some mistakes through her journey but she isn’t annoying, even if I don’t always agree with her.
Been gone all day.
Here’s my 5 again:
I’m really excited to read Shadowglass, Goddess of the Hunt, Jeri Smith-Ready’s books, and Shiloh Walker’s Broken.
Congrats DonnaS!
Reposting my top 5 picks:
1. Marked ARC – Elisabeth Naughton
2. On the Steamy Side – Louisa Edwards
3. I’ll Be Slaying You ARC – Cythia Eden
4. Beyond the Shadows – Jess Granger
5. Shadowglass – Erica Hayes
My list is still good:
– Victoria Dahl LEAD ME ON
– Megan Hart NO GREATER PLEASURE
– Moira Rogers CRUX
– Moira Rogers SANCTUARY
– HelenKay Dimon LEAVE ME BREATHLESS
Upthread, there was discussion about recently read and recently bought books so I thought I’d chime in.
Last weekend I read Lisa Kleypas’s SMOOTH TALKING STRANGER, which led to me almost immediately ordering SUGAR DADDY and BLUE-EYED DEVIL. How have I been missing out on Kleypas for so long?
I also read NAKED EDGE by Pamela Clare and was totally blown away, so I ordered EXTREME EXPOSURE. Must. Have. More. Awesome.
Then this weekend I read DOUBLEBLIND by…what’shernameagain? :wink:Ann someone… Awesome, gut wrenching book. I tried to pre-order KILLBOX at the Book Depository but it’s not up yet. 🙁
As soon as I work through a few more books in my TBR pile I’m going to order Stieg Larsson’s Millenium trilogy. (But not today since I didn’t get my weekend reading done. The idea is to make the TBR pile grow smaller, not keep building it up until it falls over and crushes me beneath it!)
If you ever remember the name of the author of Doubleblind, please let us know. I’m sure everyone here is interested to know who that might be. 😉
book junkie–I think we posted the exact same thing about Kleypas, LOL
Big congrats Donna S.!

Good morning everyone.
Hope you all have a wonderful day, although it is Monday.
Morning. I’m still trying to wake up from the time change.
I understand the time change issue. I hate Spring Forward. Give me Fall Back any day!
I forgot that you already had the time change. We will have it next weekend. I really hate the time changes
We forgot about the time chance, and didn’t reset our clocks, so we were late for church on Sunday. It’s really hard to remember for us.
My Top 5 would have to be:
1. Marked by Elisabeth Naughton
2. Crux by Moira Rogers

I woke up to go to the gym at the “new” 6:30 but clock in my truck said 5:30. Nasty reminder of the fact I could have been sleeping LOL
I fell into bed at 1 AM and couldn’t sleep. Somehow, I made it to work this morning. Not sure I remember the drive, LOL.
Me too Christie, me too. I really just cant believe its only 1pm here. It doesnt feel right.
Happy Monday Morning everyone!!! how are you all today?
Hi Jodie,
I am just back from a doc appointment. Got an injection with a huge needle into my ankle, if that doesn’t work I am going to have a surgery. At the moment it hurts like hell.
*cringe* ewwww that stinks! What did you do to your ankle?
The anterior ligament is either overstrechted or torn. Absolutely no fun
Im sorry, hopefully that works and you dont have to have the surgery.
Thanks Donna! I really hope it works. So far I never had a surgery and I don’t want to get this one. It’s scary.
Time for a new one, this fine day.

Hi everyone, I just started reading Nauti Deceptions by Lora Leigh.
My top 5 picks:
Beyond The Shadows by Jess Granger
Shadowglass by Erica Hayes
Marked by Elisabeth Naughton
I’ll Be slaying You by Cynthia Eden
His Darkest Hunger by Juliana Stone
My 5:
Shadowglass, Goddess of the Hunt, Jeri Smith-Ready’s books, and Shiloh Walker’s Broken.
I read Enchanted, Inc. by Shanna Swendson over the weekend, and really enjoyed it. I’m about to order the rest of the series even though I’m supposedly on a self-imposed book buying ban until I decrease my TBR pile. 🙄 It’s a really fun read and I’ve been in a reading slump lately so that’s my justification.
I really enjoyed that series. And I am hoping she starts another soon.
She has a 5th book planned for the series, but her publisher doesn’t want it. ❗
I find that totally bizarre! The series started in 2005, is trade paperback so more expensive, and all the books are still in print. But they don’t want book 5. Totally bizarre!
That’s another excuse I’m using to buy the rest of the series. 😀
I got my boyfriend into audio books. Since it rained all day Saturday we listened to Death of a gentle Lady by M.C. Beaton. Now I’m re-reading Children of the Night by Mercedes Lackey.
I love Beaton’s “Death of” books, and they work really well as audio books.
I have only listened to one Audio Book so far and that only because won a copy of “The Last Song” by Nicholas Sparks. It was okay, I need to get the book and read the story though because the male and female readers were kind of annoying… Liked the book itself just need to actually “read” it for myself now…
I found it was nice to multitask by playing the book and playing on my computer at the same time, and also relaxing to lay in bed and listen….
Jackie B Central Texas
I am still pretty new to audio books. So far I have only listened to Phantom Lover from AJ Llewellyn and I love the book. I also have Hot Pursuit from Suz Brockmann and one from Kerri Arthur, but so far I haven’t listened into them. I think they are great when you have long flights etc.
I have a long commute, and audiobooks can be a lifesaver. My brain is kind of weird though; with most audiobooks, I have trouble listening if I haven’t already read the book. There are only a handful of author/reader combinations that I can listen to cold.
I havent listenedto many audio books thoi do like to be read too just havent ha dthe chance to really enjoy it
Popping in at lunch. I am currently reading An Earl to Enchant by Amelia Grey – an historical which I really like! Also on e-book I just started Black Velvet by Delilah Stephans and Antonio Tiranth which is a sexy paranormal.
Did you read The Quickening and…oh crud…what’s the second book in Antonia’s series? I can’t remember now. Black Velvet is my least favorite of the three, but it’s still enjoyable.
my top 5:
crux, sanctuary, shadowglass, goddess of the hunt, mistress by mistake.
Oh Enchanted inc, i’ve been meaning to read that! 🙂
Oh, i’m currently reading ‘Wages of Sin’ by Jenna Maclaine. I’m about half through the book right now and its soooo good, had a hard time putting it down but i had school the next day. xP
Congratulations to all the winners!!!
I have never really gotten into Audio books simply because I don’t get into things being read to me. I enjoy reading it a lot more.
On my commute I love listening to my CDs. Makes the drive go much faster that way.
I like audiobooks but prefer to actually read the book myself.
I wouldn’t like listening to audio books. I’ve never ordered one. I can see if I’m driving, I might want to listen to a person reading a book, but I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on driving then! I guess I’d want to read the book myself.
I used to listen to CDs during my commute. I changed jobs and only have a 7 mile commmute instead of an hour plus so now I mostly listen to the radio.
Larena I am with you, I would much rather read in my head with my own “voice” than having someone else read to me out loud. When I was a child it caused me no end of impatience until learned how to read on my own, my parents loved to read to me but I was not such a good listener!!!
Being read to is somewhat distracting from the story as too busy critiquing the reader’s voice….
jackie b central texas
A reader who “disappears” into the story is definitely a requirement. I need something else too, though. It’s some mysterious quality of the story itself that I can’t define; I just know when it works so it’s very hit and miss.
I completely agree. I find it more distracting to listen to someone else so I end up missing things.
Yes, I too am not a fan of audiobooks. It’s hard to concentrate on what’s going on in the story when it’s being read to you. Plus, I’m a fast reader and the audiobooks feel like they’re so slow.
I agree, Jackie, I want to read in my own head with my own voice, at my speed. I remember way back once having to type from a dictating machine in an office, same type of thing, I’d find myself way ahead and waiting for the dictator voice to catch up to me, lol.
I’ve just finished Spiders Bite and thought was brillant. 🙂
Here’s a question that I think I’ve seen elsewhere but can’t remember where lol.
How do you find new authors or books? Blog reviews?, Review sites? Talking to others?
I use BBB a lot but also now have a heap of RSS feeds for authors and review blogs/sites. Love how the internet has meant that authors are so much more accessible and just makes the reading experience that much more personal. (at least for me)
Isn’t Jennifer Estep amazing? Gin is a wonderful heroine. She’s flawed but sticks to her morals, tough but willing to embrace her emotions, and Donovan…mmm….
I use and abuse SciFi Guy and a woman on the Paranormal Romance Lovers Yahoo! Group. They send out updates every month with new releases.
I loved Spider’s Bite too. Can’t wait for the next book.
On the net I mostly find new books on BBB and Goodreads. But I also enjoy going to the bookstore or library and browsing.
:blush:Jackie U, I love that phrase you use and abuse Sci Fi Guy. Doug has wonderful new release info he puts out and since his picks are normally what I read it has added to my TBR pile tremendously!!! The blog sites who do these up to the minute new release posts are awesome….
Of course over at BBB there is lots of good info that has helped me find new reads and authors too, just have not hung out there lately as much…
Jackie B Central Texas
I bought Spider’s Bite last week and can’t wait to read it.
I don’t have any IRL friends that like to read. Well those that do don’t read the same type of books as me. I rely on blogs, Goodreads, Library Thing, & Shelfari. Amazon usually recommends books based on what I’ve ordered some are a hit and some a miss. I also scour shelves and look for covers that pop out at me.
her books r just amazing for me honestly word of mouth if someone tells me a book was soo good or that i should check it out i usually do just that sometimes something new and out of the normal ill add it to my list too just depends all on whats coming up and such
Hey Emmad another Spider’s Bite fan, was it not really cool! Venom and Web Of Lies are on my Wishing and will buy when released. Jennifer got me with Gin!!
jackie b central texas
You are so right the Internet has opened up new worlds for us readers and made finding new authors and reading material fun and easy thanks to all the ways you mentioned in your comment on how to find them!!!
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
I stayed up late to finish it.
Any author that can keep me hooked and not wanting to put the book down is a good one.
Will also say that having been lucky enough to get an ARC of Hell Fire I found that to be the same. Had to stay up to read that too.
:mrgreen:Okay Emmad now I am jealous, but am sure glad to hear that Hell Fire kept you up all night because “Blue Diablo” did the same for me when read it….
I also stayed up half the night reading Spider’s Bite, you are right it was too good to put down until finished!!! 😉

How do you decide on buying a book? Who are some of your auto-buys? 🙂
Most of the times the blurb is what influences me most if I buy a book or not, other times its a recommendation from friends.
An auto-buy is for me, a book by my favorite author or part of a series that I really like. But also certain themes can be auto buys for me. I really love books with firefighter heroes.
My auto buys are series that I’m hooked on. Charlaine Harris, Richelle Mead, Patricia Briggs, Karen Marie Moning, and Jeaniene Frost are a few that I must by (usually pre-order).
I agree with your list, but would have to add Kresley Cole, Julie James, Victoria Dahl, Kelley Armstrong, Katie MacAlister, Lynn Viehl…I’m sure I’m missing people…
Some of mine are: Cindy Miles ( she writes the sweetest romances!), Kerrelyn Sparks (her Love at Stake series is awesome!), and Gena Showalter (all of her books are fantastic!)
I took a wee break, but I am back 🙂 Congrats to all of the winners thus far!
Here are my current wishes:
Elisabeth Naughton – ARC of Marked
Shiloh Walker – Hunter’s Need
Joely Sue Burkhart – Rose of Shanhasson
Diana Pharoah Francis – Bitter Night
Moira Rogers – Sanctuary
Anna, In response to how does a person decide on buying a book, many things factor in. The book cover naturally comes in first to catch my eye and interest, the back cover blurb has to be good enough to intrigue me and tell me to read the story, the main thing is for me the book genre. I read mostly Dark Paranormal Romance and UF and on occasion stray into Historical and Erotic Romance and good old fashioned Mystery Thrillers. My favorite books are written by authors who specialize in shape shifters, magic, Fae, and of course riveting characters both male and female.
Some of my auto buys at this point are J. D. Robb and or Nora Roberts, Diana Gabaldon, Rob Thurman, Faith Hunter, Kim Harrison, Jennifer Armintrout, Shana Abe and quite a few others. I am also going to auto buy books from new authors to me Kelly Gay, Kelly Meding, Jennifer Estep and Moira Rogers..
Jackie B Central Texas
I’m a total blurb nut…if a storyline catches my interest then I’ll get the book. Some of my auto-buys (well I’ve got gazillions but I’ll try and list a couple) Kay Hooper, Laura Griffin, Lisa Jackson, Annmarie McKenna, Kaitlyn O’Connor, Jayne Castle, Lora Leigh, Stormy Glenn, Cameron Dane, Shawn Lane, T.A. Chase…
I’ve recently added Cynthia Eden, Shiloh Walker, & Beth Kery to my auto-buy list.
@Anna
It’s a series or a favourite author that makes an autobuy for me. Some of them are JR Ward, Janet Evanovich, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Eloisa James.
But if it’s a new author, the cover helps but a lot comes down to the blurb if I’m in the store or the excerpt if I find out about the book on the internet.
Congrats KJ!!
Congrats, KJ! Enjoy, I like Carrie’s books.
Here’s my list again:

see you all soon!
Hi Ina,
oh I loved history courses. I enrolled in Dutch & Greek languages courses.
Congrats KJ!!
My 5 are still the same YAY!
1. Hunters Need by Shiloh Walker
2. Magin & Madness by Amy Gregg
3. Lead Me On by Victoria Dahl
4. Marked by Elisabeth Naughton
5. Goddess of the Hunt by Tessa Dare
ok… my new list 🙂
1) Moira Rogers – Crux/Sanctuary
2) Juliana Stone – His darkest Hunger
3) Denise Agnew – Primordial
4) Victoria Dahl – Lead me On
5) Jess Granger – Beyond the Shadows
I’ve been reading a lot of the comments (instead of working… shhh) and I’m w/ Jackie… I’m a cover slut too… I have to like the cover even though I have found a lot of really good books that have awful covers (those are usually the ones I pick up due to strong recommendations)…
But lately, I usually find new authors based on the recommendations of blogs (Ann’s a huge source… really… I usually go straight to amazon after reading here). I also do the Amazon’s recommended picks… but that’s only about 40%… but due to having to self impose a book allowance, I’ve had to make lists of authors/books and I can’t stray!
But I have a few exceptions of must haves that I can break the allowance for…
I just finished Kim Harrison’s Black magic Sanction (very good!) after restarting the entire series (I’m weird like that… anyone else do that? Reread the series before a new release?) and as a “palatte cleanser” I’m reading Watchers by Dean Koontz… Don’t know why, but I love Dean Koontz and always manage to read a book by him every other time… After that… I’m off to restart Patricia Briggs series before Silver Borne comes out…
ok… I think this is the most I’ve ever posted! usually I’m a lurker… sorry… skulking off now… 😉
Crux
Sanctuary
Shadowglass
Bitter Night
Twist
As a graphic designer, book covers are the very first thing to drag me in… then the blurb has to clinch me, otherwise my penny-pinching gene will kick and and make me put down the pretty book. 😉
Cool job 😀
I do love covers, they are the first thing I look at and yes bad covers might not make me take up the book. But the blurb makes the deal
Congrats KJ

Good Afternoon all, been busy this am and stopping by while eating late lunch, looks like Erin has stopped being a shy lurker and the rest of you are busy bees!!
Nice to see people besides myself who have Jeaniene Frost, Patricia Briggs and Karen Marie Moning on their auto buy lists….
jackie b central texas
Patricia Briggs is always an auto buy for me. Also C.E. Murphy
I like Karen Marie Moning’s books. I have Jeaniene Frost’s first book but I haven’t read it yet. And I have seen Patricia Brigg’s books and would like to read at least the first one but my TBB list is waaaaaay too long so I have been putting it off.
Frost and Briggs will not disappoint! I promise
They are both great and you wont regret reading them.
I’m going to re-post about a site I mentioned in Part 1 of the contest comments…The site is called Savvy Readers http://www.savvyreaders.com/
it’s a great search tool for new authors/titles in a specific plot or category that you may be interested in.
I’ve been using it for the last couple of months and have found it to be very helpful. I’m also a major blog stalker 😆 I follow a lot of various blogs (authors/reviewers/readers) not to mention browse various publisher websites…basically get info from the horse’s mouth shall we say?
Ohh I didn’t notice this the first time round. Have added it to my bookmarks and rss’d the blog 🙂
Just finished Keri Arthurs Circle of Death last night. Another excellent read.
Thanks for the link – it’s an interesting site. I missed your first post.
Cool site! Thanks for posting. Now I have yet another site to be addicted to 😉
Hey Anna looked up the Savvy Readers site and it is on my book marks now. The most helpful tool right now for me is also book bloggers and review sites, my RSS feed on my email lets me in on so many new books daily that I have to pick and choose!!
:wink:Jackie B Central Texas
My list stays the same:
– Victoria Dahl LEAD ME ON
– Megan Hart NO GREATER PLEASURE
– Moira Rogers CRUX
– Moira Rogers SANCTUARY
– HelenKay Dimon LEAVE ME BREATHLESS
This is a really interesting way to wait for HELL FIRE to appear in my mailbox!
I saw the pic of you holding your cat…such a cutie of a cat! Is it a boy/girl? name?
😀 Hey Anna it is a Neutered Tomcat and his name is “Blade”. Can you guess why?
jackie b central texas 😉
lol…my cat is neutered too
but he’s definitely got all his claws and his fave piece of furniture is my only piece of decent furniture – a tapestry covered trunk from the Bombay Co. – did I mention that he rarely scratches the three posts that I’ve got for him scattered around the apartment. 😆
😆 My Tom and Tabby both are fixed and declawed on front paws, cruel I know but they healed fine since done as kittens and as far as scratching posts !!! That is why no front claws for my house puddies!!! Blade got his name though from Daywalker Vamp character played in movies by Wesley Snipes. I love the movies and just could not resist naming my cat after that!!
Your cat was very cute with his paws around the book in his “reading post”!

If there are people interested in scoring some great free ebooks…head on over to Resplendence Publishing’s blog – http://resplendencepublishing.blogspot.com/
Fran is always updating the site and posting blurbs from new releases – all you have to do is leave a comment and once the comments are closed after a 2 week period – winners are announced. You can win up to two ebooks a month. It’s a really great way to be introduced to some new as well as familiar authors’ works from a different publisher.
Thanks for the head’s up Anna, will go over and check it out.

Suppose to be getting work done but snuck in reading the last chapter of BLue Diablo and then needed to see when the next one is coming out!
So – my top 5:
1 Hunter’s Need
2.On the Steamy Side
3.Doing it the Hard Way
4.Leave Me Breathless
5. More Blazing Bedtime Stories
:razz:All work and no reading makes for a dull day Heather and Hell Fire is counting down fast!!!!
Jackie B Central Texas
So true! 😀
I pre-ordered Hell Fire. Keep hoping Borders will ship it early.
I never know if I should pre-order or not. Sometimes it comes early but last time I got a book a couple days AFTER the release. (Both times through Amazon). If I am going to use my book “allowance” you better believe I want it by the release date.
:mrgreen:I try not to pre-order so as to not mess up the authors sales listings and such. Sometimes though!!!!!
:wink:Jackie B Central Texas
Unfortunately the Borders near me almost never gets anything out on the shelf by the release date. And I’ve had the same experience you did with Amazon shipping pre-orders after the release date. my best shot at getting something on the release date is a pre-order from Borders.
That’s good to know Sandy- thanks!
Jackie- I had no idea that pre-ordering messed up author’s sales listings. I don’t even really know what a sales listing is! How does it help/hurt the author?
I still see my top 5 picks available:
Jess Granger-Beyond The Shadows
Erica Hayes-The Shadowglass
Elisabeth Naughton-Marked
Cynthia Eden-I’ll Be Slaying You
Juliana Stone-His Darkest Hunger
@ Anna Wow you know all the hot sites! I’m adding Resplendence Publishing to my favorites. Thanks!
Thanks for the compliment Christie 😉 I know that it’s always a treat when someone recommends a great site to me so it’s always fun to pass that info onto the next person.
Pre-orders mess up sales? I had no idea. I live in the middle of nowhere and the closest bookstore is 45 minutes away. I drove there last Tuesday and they did’t even have the new releases out 👿 Is it better to wait until release day and order?
Time to redo my list 🙂
His Darkest Hunger – Juliana Stone
Beyond the Shadow – Tess Granger
Goddess of the Hunt – Tessa Dare
Mistress by Mistake – Maggie Robinson
Primordial – Denise Agnew
:ohh:Heather the best way I can tell you about the sales listing is NYT’s list for author is one that does not accept pre-ordered books for the authors release day sales counts. There has been quite a lot of woohoo on this particular topic lately and am not wanting to open up that can of worms here. I will tell you that if you want to know more go over and visit Stacia Kane’s blog, Moira Rogers blog and Rob Thurman’s Live Journal posts on this subject in detail….
To be truthful, after all is said and done I am still confused and will just buy the books like usual when released online or at a store on the shelves…. I can wait have lots to read now anyway….
🙂 🙂 🙂
Jackie B Central Texas
My understanding: Pre-orders don’t hurt sales–early purchases do. When Wal-Mart or B&N lay out the books before the release date, they don’t count toward the lists. Anything purchased within the first week of sale does.
It’s a slippery slope.
From what I have heard pre-orders don’t go out until they go on sale so that they do count as the first week of sales. So my understanding is that it doesn’t hurt the author’s sales.
That was my understanding too. Would really like to know for sure if thats not the case.
Congrats to another winner! KJ. Fortunately my list is still intact.
#1 The Stranger’s Secrets by Beth Williamson
#2 Goddess of the Hunt by Tessa Dare
#3 Marked by Elisabeth Naughton
#4 Shadowglass by Erica Hayes
#5 Mistress by Mistake by Maggie Robinson
My 5:
Shadowglass, Goddess of the Hunt, Jeri Smith-Ready’s books, and Shiloh Walker’s Broken
i don’t know if i mentioned my top 5 for this round but they are:
Marked by Elisabeth Naughton
I’ll Be Slaying You by Cynthia Eden
His Darkest Hunger by Juliana Stone
Beyond the Shadows by Jess Granger
On the Steamy Side by Louisa Edwards
did some spring cleaning yesterday and i’m getting rid of some of my old Harlequins… which means more room for new books! as for pre-orders, i don’t do it online because i always ended up getting the book a week after it comes out. i just go to the store on the day of the release if i’m that eager for something.
Yay Chelleyreads, spring cleaning is always fun as are new books…. 😈
jackie b central texas
I don’t believe buying early “hurts” an author. A sale is a sale. Not buying at all, now that would hurt. I support authors by buying their new books when I could just as easily read out of my TBR pile for the rest of my life.
Mary I am with you on a sale is a sale and most authors that have posted on the subject say the same thing. The books on my TBR shelves could also stay as is for the next year with no new additional buying and would have plenty to read…
I am just one who has been burned on Pre-Orders and got my pre-ordered book a month after it was released so will not do it again!!!!
😐 😐 😐 😐
Jackie B Central Texas
Sometime pre-orders ship early and sometimes I’ve seen books out in the bookstore before the release date. But I figure that the author still gets the sale.
A sale is a sale, true, but the problem is this: an author who doesn’t make one of the lists isn’t as marketable as an author who did. Publishing houses look at this when they consider whether or not to sign the author on for future books. So even though the author got the money for the early sale, it didn’t necessarily help their career. They have to get over that “mid-list” hurdle in order to keep their books going.
I think that can be a dangerous line for authors to take, though. It implies that a reader’s purchase is only valuable if it’s made during release week. If the reader’s money isn’t good enough any other time, a reader buying late might as well buy used and save money.
I’ll buy during release week if I can, but I’m not going to stress over it. I wish publishers would take a more long term view of authors’ marketability.
I couldn’t disagree more. If it was all about money, sure, but it’s about longevity. For an author’s career to thrive, they have to prove they’re marketable.
Jackie,
I agree that an author has to be marketable to be published but most of the books that I read and enjoy are by mid-list authors. And lots of times I don’t discover an author until they’ve published several books and I happen to see a review of their latest book on a blog. I’m sure the author would be happy to have a new reader buy their backlist books as well as new releases. And if people don’t buy backlist books then publishers won’t keep them in print.
Sandy–agreed, but many of those mid-list authors’ contracts are being threatened because the newer books are being purchased. Yes, it’s important to gain new readership to purchase the backlist books, but if the newer books aren’t selling in the appropriate numbers at the appropriate times, not only will the backlist books not be available, but neither will any new books. From what I’ve heard, that’s why there won’t be a 5th Swendson novel.
Gah! *aren’t* being purchased! lol
Here’s my lfive again.
Colby Hodge’s Twist
Moira Rogers’ Crux
Moira Rogers’ Sanctuary
Tessa Dare’s Goddess of the Hunt
Elisabeth Naughton’s ARC of Marked
Can anyone tell me about the authors of the last two?
Lauren I can tell you this, Elisabeth Naughton has got some really interesting looking books out already and this new series is going to be 5 in the series with last books release date of February 2012. Book 2 “Entwined” comes out July 27,2010 and book 3 “Tempted” is scheduled for Feb 1, 2011. She has all this info posted on her new blog site and lots more besides…..
The Eternal Guardians series is something I have been wanting since she came out with the news a while back about her writing it!!!

Oh I forgot Happy St. Patricks’s Day
May the luck of the Irish be with you
:mrgreen:Good morning back and Happy St Patricks everyone! Good Wednesday to all of you as well, half the week gone again!
What are we reading today?
I am starting “Sins Of The Flesh” by Caridad Pinero…
jackie b central texas
I’m about halfway through Apple Turnover Murder by Joanne Fluke.
I just started reading a German book by David Safier called Jesus liebt mich (Jesus loves me) – it’s really funny and he borrows all known clichés 😆
his first book Bad Karma will be out in English in June (I think…) and I really recommend it!!!!
Happy St patrick’s Day 😀
Today I am reading some good fantasy, The Shadow Prowler, and perhaps I will venture into chick-lit too later today
I’m about halfway through Erin Lynn’s Demon Envy. It’s YA, but it’s YA by Erin McCarthy incognito, so I’ll allow it. She’s coming to the site tomorrow, I think, so I wanted to get it done by then. Don’t think that’ll be a hardship because it’s flipping hilarious. The heroine opens up a demon portal with zit cream.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I’m planning to finish ‘Inside Out’ by Maria V. Snyder. I’m also reading ‘Just the Sexiest Man Alive’ by Julie James.
Happy St. Patty’s Day!!
I am reading the Bridgerton Series by Julia Quinn. I met her at the Book Festival this past weekend and she was so nice and so sweet!!
Keep an eye out on the Bookpusher.com website, I went to the Festival with one of their reviewers and she is going to give away a signed copy of one of Julia’s new books!! (US only though)
I am reading Original Sin by Allison Brennan. About halfway though, sometimes I really like it and sometimes its ok. Waiting until I finish for a real judgement.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

ui, it’s St. Patricks Day!! have you special plans for today??
Sins of the Flesh was an awesome read! You’re gonna love it Jackie!
Good Morning and Happy St Patrick’s day Anna! I am going to take you at your word, Caridad Pinero is a new author for me to read and love to comment on her blog because she is so nice to “chat” with her followers!!!
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Jackie B Central Texas
It was the first book I’ve read from her and I quite enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to reading the next one coming up in the series.
Anna I am looking forward to more of Caridad’s books that she has releasing and yes especially “Stronger Than Sin” releasing in October of 2010…. I go to her website and look at her back list and go “I want……”
Jackie B Central Texas
@ Jackie,
Sins of the flesh is on my tbb list. I love Caridad’s books
Danny I have been trying to get myself to sit down and read the book for almost a month and keep reading other stuff like Anthologies because they are shorter stories and can read a little at a time and finish, I follow Caridad on her blog and she has some new releases coming up that I really think look good too!
Jackie B Central Texas 🙂
Jackie,
Do you find the quality of stories in anthologies very uneven? I always have trouble getting myself to read anthologies. I find that I will really like one or two stories and the rest will be so-so.
 I am back, Sandy and to answer your question the Anthologies I read are usually if not 100% authors known to me.. The stories are short novellas in between reading the full length books so they provide me with some more info sometimes that I would miss out on if did not read. Case in point, I do not have Strange Brew and missed out on reading a story “Vegas Odds” by Karen Chance that was prior to “Skin Deep” in Anthology “Inked” about new character Lia de Croissets and missed out on the back story of she and her BF/Mate….
:wink:Jackie B Central Texas
I just read Bitten by Cupid because I wanted to read the Lynsay Sands story because it carried over characters from one of her books. I really liked that story. The other two stories were by authors I wasn’t familiar with and they were OK. I guess my problem is paying 7.99 for a book that I’ll may only enjoy part of.
🙁 Sandy that is why when I do buy Anthologies they are ones where all the authors are familiar to me, I have been really lucky with the small MMPB ones that come out with 3-5 stories because they carry over from every book series I have already read the full length book too. I have Bitten By Cupid on my TBR pile and realize it is one where this does not hold true. I have not read the work of Palmer or Rush yet…. I also bought the book for less than $4 so it is not such a big loss if trade it out on PBS!!! 😉
jackie b central texas
I like anthologies though even if some of the authors are unknown to me. I find a lot of new authors this way, I get the anthology if I know a couple of the authors and then can find out if I like the new ones without have to get a full stand alone book by them and risk hating the whole thing. At least this way I know I will like at least half. And really if I like 1-2 authors in it, I will usually like the others as well. It seems like that do a pretty good job of grouping similar authors together.
🙂 Donna that is my take as well, I have found lots of new authors in larger Anthologies especially and of course this is one of the reasons for the humongous TBR shelves….. 😉

happy saint patrick’s day everyone! what are you all reading on this awesomely green day? i finished a touch of scandal by jennifer haymore last night and started on tempt me if you can by janet chapman 🙂
I’m reading Apple Turnover Murder by Joanne Fluke. It has a green cover so it seemed appropriate.
Happy St. Pat’s!!! I can’t say I am reading anything special for today…
I can’t even imagine what I would read. Books set in Ireland? Books with Leprechaun heros? Or villians?
Leila Brown has a short with 2 leprechaun heroes. It’s called Irish Creme. Very hot!
I don’t know why but the thought of a leprechaun hero just kind of struck my funny bone.
I could see a leprechaun as a secondary character though.
They are very yummy leprechauns. Trust me. : )
Happy St. Paddy’s Day everyone. It my twin’s birthday today, so we have a houseful of kids, food, and movies. Fun but exhausting, and definitely no down time for reading.

We had St Pats day yesterday nah nah.
How many of you take a book to work to read during your lunch hour or carry one in your bag for those moments you might be standing around doing nothing?
I usually eat lunch with the guys from my department but I keep a book in the car in case we have to split lunches and there isn’t anyone to eat with.
:eek:Emmad, I have a book with me at the Doctor for the wait, at the any time out and about with the DH and know there may be a time when stay and wait in our vehicle while he shops in certain stores and when worked had a book to read every day at lunch unless ran errands instead….
I thought that was normal for all bookies!!!
😀
jackie b central texas
I always have my nook with me and frequently read during lunch. I wouldn’t have it any other way! 😀
I always have a book in my bag…I read whenever I can snatch in some free spots of time. I always have my iPhone w. ebooks on it and occasionally I’ll have my eBookwise reader with me.
:mrgreen:Anna there is never not an opportunity to read here and there so always best to be prepared, I used to not take a book with me and learned the hard way when waiting in places with nothing to do but stare at the wall… 😉
Jackie B Central Texas
Congratulations, Erin!!!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! Don’t get pinched! 😀
No one to pinch me today, I am home Jeanette but Happy St. Patrick’s to you too!!
jackie b central texas 🙂
No pinching here. I made sure I wore a green shirt
My kids have to wear uniforms to school so I bought them “Kiss me I’m Irish” buttons.
Glad you both weren’t pinched! People at my school didn’t even realize it was St. Patrick’s Day till I pinched them b/c it’s finals week! haha
😮 Cannot believe when went to the Post Office and Grocery store earlier in the am how many people were not wearing green, oh well not everyone participates anymore. I did not remember to wear it either because wanted to be warm and only green shirts are short sleeved…. 😆
Day is almost over now so no worries anyway as am home….
Jackie B Central Texas
I hope everyone is/had a good one!
@ Emmad
I always have a book with me. If not an actual book I have my phone with the Kindle and Kobo apps. You never know when you’ll have time to read 😉
Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

Oh i always have atleat a book with me, and sometimes my nook to!!! I lurveeee my nook!!!
JoJo
Everyone is raving about their Nooks today. It has me questioning my eReader choice LOL
:evil:It has me questioning why I have not bought an e-reader yet….. :ohh:
jackie b central texas
I’m in the same situation as Jackie, but I’m still debating whether to even get a ereader. I’m questioning is it even worth it when I don’t really purchase that many ebooks, but I sometimes feel like having one haha
I like mine. I think it’s the instant gratification thing LOL If I want a book bad enough I can download it and start reading. Plus all the freebies out there. I’ve discovered great authors thanks to free books on Amazon.
Congratulations Erin!
And here’s my five again.
Colby Hodge’s Twist
Moira Rogers’ Sanctuary
Tessa Dare’s Goddess of the Hunt
Elisabeth Naughton’s ARC of Marked
Erica Hayes’ Shadowglass: The cover is nifty, that is all.
Congrats to the latest winners.
There are still lots of books I’d love to win. Two of them are Diana Pharoah Francis – Bitter Night and Jess Granger –
Beyond the Shadows. I haven’t read either of these authors before and I’d like to give them a try.
So who’s partyin’ it up for today? I’m a total homebody so it’ll be just me, myself & I (well plus some great books)
😉
:razz:Been home all afternoon and this evening alone with my cats, my Chihuahua and my Mom as the DH is out of town tonight for work!!!
You have Tigger too, LOL… 😉
Jackie B Central Texas
Tigger is exhausted from playing with his new toy (organic catnip cloth mouse) so he’s just chillin’ on my treadmill. I think he uses it more than I do *actually…he does use it more than I do (note to self : get on the damn treadmill)* 😉
Not me! My husband is working so I’m home with the kids. If he wasn’t working we’d both be home with the kids LOL We live in the middle of nowhere so even if I wanted to go out I’d have to drive an hour. I have beer in the fridge though and plan to drink a couple once all the kids are in bed.
Here we go:

anyone going to any book conferences? the travel is always too far me to go but i always want to and everyone seem to have an awesome time.
😥 I can only dream Chelleyreads, the book conferences and events even close to me in Texas are still hours away and involve staying overnight and with my DH working almost non-stop last 20 years and now my elderly Mom living with us and our house pets the fantasizing about going are about as close as I will ever get!!!!
😐 😐 😐 😐
Jackie B Central Texas
uhh nooo…never gonna happen…I’m always waay too broke to even dream about going to those awesome conventions I keep hearing about not to mention seeing pics of on everyone’s sites *sigh* I live too far away…Ottawa, Ont. is not exactly a major destination for romantic fiction conventions. Besides, I console myself by buying more books to make up for not going…*sniff* Hey someone’s gotta buy the books you know…
I wish. Not much happens here in Louisiana. I have to drive 3 hours to Houston if I want to even attend a signing.
😡 I have to say good night all, looked at the clock when started yawning and it is past my bedtime.. 😆 😆 😆 😆
Us older folk need to get some sleep so can get up with the chickens tomorrow!!
Luck O The Irish to You all!!!

Have a great night Jackie

I’m currently re-reading Jinx High by Mercedes Lackey which I read years ago when it first came out. I really enjoyed it the first time I read it. This time I’m finding that’s its not as good as I remembered. UF has come so far since then.
Have you re-read a book and found that it isn’t as good as you remembered? If so what book was it?
Sandy that has happened to me before – and it is such a bummer. I can’t remember the title but I reread an older Anne McCaffrey dragon book and didn’t have the same reaction. Sometimes I wonder if the mood I am in effects how I perceive the current book I am reading. Just read Lighting Thief (which everyone else seems to love) and had to work at it to finish the book.
@ Sandy,
that never happened to me so far, but sometimes I put books back on my tbr pile, because I didn’t get into the story immediately. When I pick up the book again I could kick my own butt because it was so long in my tbr pile.
Congratulations, Jodie!
Congratulations Jodie!
Colby Hodge’s Twist
Moira Rogers’ Sanctuary
Tessa Dare’s Goddess of the Hunt
Elisabeth Naughton’s ARC of Marked
Erica Hayes’ Shadowglass
Congrats to all the winner’s so far/
My new list:
The Stranger’s Secrets-love Beth’s cowboys
Shadowglass- this is a new author for me
I’ll Be Slaying You-read everything Cynthia writes
Beyond The Shadows-loved the first book in this series
Marked-loved Elisabeth’s Stolen series and can’t wait to try out this new story
@Sandy: I’ve that feeling sometimes when I read old reviews I’ve written… I often wonder “was that really my opinion?” or “I’ve that other in mind”… 🙄
Mine again!

Hunter’s Need
I think sometimes that when we read a book and absolutely loved it and go back years later and re-read it and find that we didn’t like it as much could just be the fact that our tastes have changed and we have grown or it could just be that at either time we were in a different frame of mind which changed how we preceived the book.
Larena, I know I outgrew my Barbara Cartlands and Victoria Holt books. I look back now and think about reading them thinking they were just something something and now the stuff I read is just so much better….. :ohh: 😉
Jackie B Central Texas
I just bought an old Victoria Holt book at a fundraiser the other day. Are her books any good? I’ve never read any by her.
Chelsea it has been years but if you bought one of her Victorian Romances you will love it, am not sure what else she may have written but those were good when I read her books….

Good morning everyone,
hope you all have a wonderful Friday. Any special weekend plans?
Special plans, no, just working on assignments. But I am gonna do some reading for sure
I would love to say: nope, but I have to paint a room this weekend because on Monday I get my new furniture for my living room 😀
Jackie B Central Texas
normally I wouldn’t mind too, but I had a stressful week at the university and momentarily I haven’t even the motivation to think the right way 😉
I’m taking my teenaged sister with me to the Renaissance Festival. Love it! It’s our annual tradition. 😀
Congrats to Martha! Have a good Friday everyone! I don’t know if this falls under special, but I’m cutting the lawn for the first time this year this weekend, ugh!
😐 Hey all, Good Morning… No special plans the weather is supposed to be bad tomorrow here in our area so probably will stay home until the sun comes out and the rain passes over Sunday… Today however have the front yard to mow again, the 3rd time so far in 2010!!!! Then I get to read some more and watch movies on DVD with the DH when he gets home tonight… :ohh:
Jackie B Central Texas
I’m taking my boyfriend and my mother out for lunch Sat. and then my brother and his family is supposed to come down from CT to visit. We had horrible weather last weekend – heavy rain, wind and hail with road flooding.
It’s been in the high sixtys and sunny the last few days and is supposed to be the same for Sat. and a little cooler on Sun.
OMG! I leave for 2 days and I win a book… THANKS SOOOO MUCH!!!!
Lol… I had to capitalize on my name and go drink some green beers even though I’m sick (snuffily cold)… This is especially fun for me b/c I’m a short korean-american girl named Erin living in Nebraska. I always find myself in fun conversations w/ drunk irishmen trying to convince them that I am indeed part Irish! Weather was fanastic Wednesday and Thursday (in the 60’s) which is why I wasn’t here, cuz I was outside 🙂 and now… snow… siiiigh… fickle weather here…
But I’m now reading Blood Bound, #3 of Patricia Brigg’s Mercy Thompson series, which is awesome! I can’t remember who was saying that they wanted to start but had a long TBR pile… skip this ahead! Worth it!
K– this shy lurker won’t “talk” your ears off, I promise… It’s just hard for me sometimes to contribute cuz you all sound so wonderful… and I’m not… lol…
THANKS AGAIN!
Erin, glad you are back, hope you feel better after getting to smile from your book win and what fun you must have in Nebraska with an Irish first name! Your mixed cultural heritage is all about what makes it great to be an American. I myself am a true “mutt” as have a mix of Scotch, Irish,English, Czech and Sioux Indian in my families tree!
Have a great Friday and do not be shy, we do not bite and it is always nice to learn more about each other. After all we are all here in the spirit of fun and looking to “score” a book maybe!!! 😉 Jackie B Central Texas
Congrats Erin.
BTW- love all Patricia Briggs books – I always end up doing 2 am late nights when I read her stuff. Not good when I have kiddos up at 6 am. Enjoy! 😀
:wink:Heather that is what nap time is for, so you can relax while kids sleep.. Briggs is worth staying up for anyway… 🙂

oh, I can’t wait for summer – I’m so glad when winter feelings (and temperatures *gg*) will be over 🙂
washing? drying? yeah, I could do that too, but afterwards I would have to iron and I HATE that 🙄 hope you will be through with that soon!!
Washing done, drying done and only involves folding as my doggie blankets and one goes on the couch and the other on the bed, still have to do the hard part mowing but grass not dry enough yet….
Right now have to go put out garbage for pickup and put up some plants again, Later!!!

I’m having a great Friday… quiet here at work. Just watching it snow and wishing for some nice spring weather… thinking of taking more cold meds… Making a grocery list… my 7 mo. old puppy loves apples and needs more… I’ll buy them for him and not for me… lol… what you do for your 4 legged kids!! Riveting stuff I know! 🙂 everyone have a great weekend and enjoy your books!
:ohh:Erin I hear you. My little 4 legged fiends are spoiled as much as humanly possible! My little 11 year old Chihuahua is the worst, he has to be “Cheered” to get him to eat his meals every day. The rat has to have his dry food now mixed with soft and will not eat unless I sit with him and hold the plate and tell him what a good boy he is, PIMB!! I love him anyway. 😉 Jackie B Central Texas

Your pets sounds like my little brat babies.
He comes just like a dog and loves to play fetch. And he will eat anything we give him but he has a major sweet tooth. LOL
We have a puppy-cat (aka Max).
We also have the “Princess” and boy does she act like one. She is very spoiled (also is a kitty)
and we also have Wiley who is very calm and is our other puppy-cat though he doesn’t come as often as Max does.
We spoil them all very much but they are very sweet and loving so it works.
Nothing too exciting…doing my laundry right now (giant mountainous piles *ugh*) planning on some more cleaning around the apartment…hope it’ll get done quickly so I can do some reading…
Finished Shiloh’s Fragile the day before yesterday and am now dying to read Broken but have to wait till end of month before I can buy it. *sigh* Why can’t we all have a money tree darn it!? 😛
How was Fragile?
:mrgreen:Miranda I am jealous of your pup, I would love to have Pizza every Friday myself!!

I’ve been looking for a pair for like months on end and nothing fit right…What is up with all the super low-rise pants out there? Do they really think that women want their a$$cracks to hang out? How on earth is that fashionable? I’m no longer the bulimic size 2 I was 12 years ago and the stores are soo not helping my self-esteem by having such small selections available for their curvy/full-figured customers. ARGH!!! Okay…I’m done ranting now…Sorry you guyz…I had to get that off my chest.
wtg winenrs
have a good weekend 😎
Congrats Jodie and Martha.
Have a great weekend everyone!!
Our four legged menagerie:
a dwarf rabbit
two eastern box turtle
2 dwarf hamsters
Now that it’s getting a bit warmer, both the turtles and rabbit have the run of the back yard.
lol… glad to hear that I’m not the only one to spoil a 4 legged baby… my boyfriend is the stay at home “daddy” and he gets mad b/c once I get home, baby is all about “momma”… we are almost contemplating not having actual children for fear of distrupting our “babies”! (we have a 9 yr old pointer, 5 yr old mini beagle and a “peagle”; the puppy is the son of the pointer and the beagle)
If I win the lottery, I’ll buy all of you the library of your dreams… fingers crossed!
Have a good weekend everyone
:mrgreen:Congrats on your win Sandy, enjoy the weekend….

Congratulations Sandy!!!
Thanks for the book Ann. I emailed you my address
re-post of list
*Beyond the Shadows – I’ve never read any of Jess’s books but it looks quite interesting and I want to give the series a try.
Everyone’s animals sound really cute 🙂 I have a chihuahua poodle mix. She is so spoiled but I love her to death. She wants to be held like a baby and hand fed (that was my mom’s doing, not mine).
😮 Been outside in my yard working and missed all the furry friends!!! We have a zoo between all of us, Rabbit, mixed dog breeds, cats who think they are dogs and cats who think they are the “Boss”!!! I love to hear about all these cuties and especially how we all do the same thing, spoil them worse than human kids!!! If every “pet parent” would be this nice the world would be a lot brighter for all the little and not so little critters who count as “pets”…
Jackie B Central Texas :ohh:
🙂 WTG Anna, here you about the jeans. I love low rise because have a fairly normal sized tushie but my belly is not so pretty because being 5’2″ and on the overweight end of the scale it is all about the belly bulge!!! Happy to hear I am not the only one with issues with their Jeans though…

Good morning everyone,
hope you all have a wonderful Saturday
the sun is shining therefore it will be a perfect day 🙂
hope you enjoy the day too!
Congrats Sandy 😀
btw I tried reading Lucan (I really tried!) but I can’t connect with the protas and the story 🙄 I’m up to page 40 and that’s all I manage… in the meantime I’ve read another book, but don’t tell that someone
@ Ina,
that sometimes happen. I would put the book back into your tbr pile and give it later a second chance. Sometimes it’s a mood thing why you can’t get into a story. That has happened very often to me and when I picked up the book again I was sometimes surprised why I had problems with it.
Hi Danny,
yeah, I will take your advice and try it again at a later time 🙂
Happy Saturday Everyone!!! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
wish you a great weekend too, Anna!
🙂 Happy Saturday morning to you all to @Anna, @Danny, @Ina!! I wish the sun was shining here Ina it is pouring rain and thundering since about 5 this morning and prior to that rain, rain, rain!!
Later peeps have fun and good luck..

Jackie,
here is really strange weather. It is warm and humid, but the sun isn’t shining. The sky is just grey in grey.

Now “we” have changed over to Gene Simmons “Family Jewels”, which is only slightly less nauseating… Better than the logging shows my Sweetie likes to watch though as those sometimes involve on site bloody accidents….

Good Sunday morning everyone!
At least the sun is shining here this morning and birds are singing outside.
Happy Sunday!!! Hope everyone has a great day!
Wow over 1400 comments. My guess is that we will have over 2000 till April 8th.
What do you think
I think we will reach that before 😉 we have enough things to talk about *gg*
@Danny: good morning to you too!
so, it’s Sunday and you should rest and enjoy that day and what am I doing? painting the walls in a great yellow 😉
what are you doing?
@ Ina
Oh painting walls, can be fun.
I am not doing much today. Writing reviews and reading some more.
@Danny: yeah, after doing the preparatory operations it’s really fun 😀 and it looks great – we will paint it a second time soon and then my furniture can come *dancing*
do you have a blog, Danny? for your reviews? I consider writing one, but I’m not entirely sure…
@Danny, @ Ina good morning on this bright sunny, Yay, Sunday… Hope all is going well so far today for you.
Danny we will most likely hit 2000 comments by the end of this week if not sooner.
Ina you are getting me excited for your furniture coming and am glad you are now out of your “funk” of last week!!! 🙂

@ Ina,

oh, I will visit and explore it 😉 thanks!
Hi Jackie!
good morning 🙂 yeah, me too – the hard part is to begin with the work 😉
oh, I’ve ordered a huge grey sofa (they call it “elephant grey”) and I’ve already bought new bookshelfs in red! can’t wait to fill them with new books!! I think I will have to make an order soon 😆
greetings
Jess Granger – Beyond the Shadows (The reviews have been amazing so far)
Erica Hayes – Shadowglass (I have a thing for demons, lol)
and adding Eternal Hunger because of all the recs for it
and the ARC of Marked because the cover looks delicious.
Another one bites the dust…let’s add Twist.
All my picks are disappearing!! lol
@ Jackie U.
Colby Hodge’s Twist is a good book, unusual like all the Shomi books, but good.
so, I’m finished with painting for today and it looks great 🙂
ah, I’ve to tell you something!! I started today with Laced with Desire and it’s gorgeous!!! I read the third story first – by Joey W. Hill and it was both heartbreaking and hot!
Why heartbreaking?
she is so strong and had a lot to endure and he does everything to help her through this *dreaming*
@ Ina
I love Joey Hill’s stories. She named the heroine of A vampire’s claim after me.
@Danny: for real??? wow, what a honor!!!!
@ Ina
Yeah, it was a wonderful surprise when she told me about it.
Joey is one of my favorite auto-buy authors, love her vampire series.
